Jared from Subway got what he deserved (1 Viewer)

I really don't understand why people think prison rape is funny. Or acceptable. Or - apparently - a justifiable form of punishment.

6. I'd note that Jared has not been charged with sleeping with a six year old and, from what I can gather, has not even been charged with attempting or soliciting sex with a 6 year old. He had sex with 16 and 17 year olds - suggest that he's a hebephile or ephebophile. He's also been charged with possessing child pornography. Nothing indicates that that he produced any porn or tried to sleep with a small child. He's committed bad and disgusting crimes, but those suggesting he should get the death penalty or that what he did is worse than murdering two people in cold blood are irrational.
I would agree except that the complaint states his request was 'the younger the better'. Murder is a higher crime than any sexual assualt even on a minor. Should he get the death penalty? No, though that would feel right but for the legal system that would be out of place. I certainly would not shed a tear if he got shanked in prison and bled out on the shower floor after being abused- I have no sympathy for someone like him. NONE. And the 'younger the better' makes the actual age of the victims a matter of opportunity in my mind so I am not too worried about them being 16 or 17. He is still a sick pig.
7. A complaint is simply a list of allegations amounting to evidence which the state believes provides probable cause for the defendant to be charged with a crime. What is stated in the complaint are supposed facts that have not been subject to any sort of confrontation or refutation, whether by cross-examination or otherwise. In other words, when you see a complaint the alleged facts should be taken with a grain of salt. Here, we have no idea as to the credibility of the speaker providing the police with this hearsay statement and are not privy to the context of which the statement may have been made. Instead, a more reliable source of facts on this case would have been the "factual basis" provided by either the State or the defendant (which the other side confirmed) when the plea was taken. I have not seen any media reports providing a verbatim account of what the factual basis was for Jared's guilty plea. To your point, I think it's safe to call Jared a sick pig, but it's somewhat of a stretch to say he'd sleep with a pre-pubescent child or that he should be imprisoned for decades.
Sleeping with a 16 year old is enough for me to put you away for decades.
Yet there are numerous countries and a number of states which find such acts legal.
Yup- including marrying 10 year old girls off to 50 year old men. You think that is ok because you can find some sick bastards who think that is a good idea?

There is a lot of slavery around the world. Perfectly acceptable to people in parts of the world. Good with that?

Some parts of the world are inclined to favor a particular gender and if they find out they are pregnant with the 'wrong' gender, they abort the baby. Totally fine.

We are not talking about an 18 year old boy dating a 16 year old girl and then they have sex. We are talking about a grown man who has consumed child pornography and was involved in production of child porn with his non-profit org buddy that then crossed state lines to have sex with a young prostitute and asked that young prostitute to find younger women for him. "The younger the better".
I was actually thinking of Europe when I brought up numerous countries (In Europe, countries who have the age of consent set at 16 include Cyprus, Finland, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland. For Austria, Germany, Portugal and Italy it is 14, and in France, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Greece it is 15. I was not referring to Jared's situation in particular. I was just trying to point out that your views are not universal and there are others who do not believe someone should be put away for decades for sleeping with a 16 y.o.

Karma
Jared deserves prison, he admitted guilt and no one is really arguing he shouldn't go away for the child pornography by itself.

However, there are a lot of innocent people behind bars (as evidenced by the number of death row inmates who have been released and completely exonerated after DNA proved their innocence). So I guess some people think that it is karma that the wrongfully accused/convicted be raped in prison too.

Let's just agree that Jared is someone who is disgusting and needs to be put away for a while.

Have the references to prison rape in this thread been directed toward these hypothetical innocent people behind bars or have they been directed toward Jared who is pleading guilty?

Irrelevant for the innocent who are raped, who I guess you must think have it coming to them too, or perhaps that is just an unfortunate consequence for the Jared's of the world getting their karmic payback.

No, it's actually you bringing other allegedly innocent inmates into the equation that is irrelevant because nobody is referring to those other people. Everyone is talking specifically about Jared, and Jared is pleading guilty.

Agree. These girls were underage prostitutes right? And he is into barely illegal porn. That's quite different from kiddie porn and raping kindergartners.

If this guy makes it through his entire sentence imagine how big he is gonna be without being able to eat Subway for 5 plus years.

He's gonna have to start all over.

My impression is that very few underage prostitutes get into the game themselves because the local Orange Julius isn't hiring over the summer. There's a decent chance that any underage prostitute is a victim of sex trafficking, which we might look at more harshly than if this was just an Amy Fisher situation.

I don't think you could classify the child porn as "barely illegal," whatever that means.

Um, you realize 16 is LEGAL in many states?
Um, you do realize it is ILLEGAL to be gay in 49 countries? Whether something is legal or not does not make it right or wrong. It just makes it legal or illegal depending on the jurisdiction.

Part of the case involves images Fogle received from Russell Taylor, the head of Fogle's foundation. According to the complaint, Taylor sent Fogle photos and videos from hidden cameras in Taylor's house, featuring children as young as approximately 6.

We've been down this road before (Chadstroma and I had a nice long sit-down on it) and its best to leave it that everyone has their own views on what is beatdown worthy. But in the case of Jared, he's beatdown worthy.

Interesting topic. I think there's a mix of runaways (who may or may not get mixed up with men who pimp them out) and girls who want money for their own needs/desires (drugs, clothes, etc.) and who will use sex to meet those ends.

Um, you realize 16 is LEGAL in many states?
Um...you realize the feds say 18 is legal and that's all that matters here (since we're talking interstate commerce and why the feds are involved).

I think his point is simply that putting someone away for decades for sleeping with a 16 year old is, well, insane.

Agree. These girls were underage prostitutes right? And he is into barely illegal porn. That's quite different from kiddie porn and raping kindergartners.
Part of the case involves images Fogle received from Russell Taylor, the head of Fogle's foundation. According to the complaint, Taylor sent Fogle photos and videos from hidden cameras in Taylor's house, featuring children as young as approximately 6.

Yeah I noticed that too. It does seem like he had a wide variety of porn on his computer and certainly any porn with a 6 year old is absolutely awful.

My impression though, and again, just impression, is that Jared's preferred range was in the 14-18 category. I base this on the manner in which he went to get prostitutes and the fact that the child porn found on his computer seemed to vary in ages (suggesting to me that he likely just did a file share with his perv buddy). It seems like Jared's taste was for post-pubescent girls instead of prepubescent girls. Since the latter is, in my opinion, far worse, Jared probably doesn't need to be incapacitated from society forever or get repeatedly raped in prison. Of course, clearly others disagree.

Does Orange Julius still exist?

Dairy Queen bought them out, so you will often see DQs selling OJ drinks.

Um, you realize 16 is LEGAL in many states?
Um, you do realize it is ILLEGAL to be gay in 49 countries? Whether something is legal or not does not make it right or wrong. It just makes it legal or illegal depending on the jurisdiction.
Can you expand on this please? Thank you.
Well, in these countries they have laws making being gay illegal.

Chadstroma, I realize you probably have a young daughter and that is why your opinion is so strong. However, legally there is nothing wrong with having sex with a 16 year old for the majority of the US (30 states) and most every other country in the world.

Interestingly the US consent laws came about by women's movements around the turn of the century (1900) with the primary intent to abolish prostitution, not to protect poor 16 year old Sally who was not emotionally mature enough to have sex with older Billy.

I have no problem with Jared paying for sex with 16 and 17 year olds if they were of legal age in the state that the act occurred (Our prostitution laws are as stupid as our age of consent laws* in my opinion). His paying for sex with anyone under 16 is wrong, and the filming of children and teenagers and collecting child porn are disgusting and he deserves whatever punishment is doled out by his fellow inmates.

*I believe there should be a standard age of consent nationwide.
