Jared from Subway got what he deserved (1 Viewer)

So are people going to stop going to Subway over this? My wife thinks so - I think she is crazy. There are lots of reasons not to go to Subway - but I can't imagine this is really one of them...
I suppose the other shoe to drop would be some type of evidence that Subway management knew of Jared's proclivities.
Considering how quickly they dropped him, they had to have known something.
That does not show anything. There is not a company on the planet that wants to be within 100 miles of a child sex scandal.

Cool guys.

Jared Fogle's nonprofit organization, the Jared Foundation, reportedly did not pay out a single grant for its stated mission of combating childhood obesity, and 60 percent of its expenses from 2009 to 2013 went to the salary of its executive director, according to a report by USA Today.

From 2008 onward, the organization's executive director was Russell Taylor, Fogle's friend who is currently in jail on child pornography charges, including allegations that he secretly videotaped children in his house.

Fogle, 37, the now former Subway pitchman who agreed to plead guilty to charges that he had sex with minors and possessed child pornography, faces a prison sentence of five to 12 years.

His foundation was supposed to pay out $2 million annually to schools and community organizations to combat childhood obesity, but instead it spent just $73,000 a year, the report says. Sixty percent of the money went toward the executive director's salary, and 26 percent was unaccounted for, the newspaper reports.

Russell Taylor served as executive director of the foundation from 2008, according to his LinkedIn page, until he was fired following his May arrest on multiple counts of child pornography.

Nice. So, just a child pornography charity?

A lot of these foundations are crooked. It definitely is a good idea to check into this stuff before you donate money to a charity.

Non-profits have to file form 990's which are public record. In 2013 the foundation only had contributions of $127k and Taylor was paid $40,000. In 2012, the numbers were very similar. We aren't talking about huge amounts of money here, but obviously the $2M payout seems very off base.

Someone had to think of the children.

Fat chance of that happening

I really hope they were able to nail all the guys who were pimping children too. Those guys are worse if that is even possible.

Who was pimping out children?
Isn't there evidence Jarad and friends were getting underage prostitutes in New York?
17 year olds is my understanding. Which is not "underage" per NY law. Jared was charged with a federal law which basically makes it illegal to travel from one state where the age is 18 to another where the age is 16 for the purpose of being with a 16 or 17 year old.

So, calling the prostitutes Jared was getting in New York as "underaged" could be right or wrong. Regardless, it seems a stretch to call actions of the madams/pimps that are pandering out these upper teenagers in NY as "pimping out children" to the extent that they are worse than somebody possessing child pornography.

Fogle, a pitchman for Subway at the time, was attending a health event at a school in Florida in 2007 when the incident occurred
this really bothers me because

Herman said she notified law enforcement authorities, and the FBI asked her to wear a wire to record her conversations with Fogle.

For years, she said, she worked undercover with authorities to gather evidence against Fogle.
so it took our crack team of expert government men 8 ####### years of Jared and his buddy diddling youngsters to finally bring a case>? If I'm the parent of one of these kids, i'm finding the guys on the investigation and killing them with my bare hands.
Hard to disagree with this.
Except Jared wasn't exactly "diddling youngsters". He was a pervert who had sex with 17 year old prostitutes in a state where doing so isn't illegal (hence why Jared is being prosecuted under a federal statute) and got some pictures from his even more perverted buddy. The pictures Jared received weren't manufactured by Jared so, realistically, they'd be out there all the same.

Jared is a pervert who deserves to do some time. But it's usually not a crime to say disgusting things so simply recording Jared say things like he finds middle school girls attractive is likely not enough for the FBI to act.
How about his cell mates?
It's likely that Jared will be housed in area with cell mates of similar predilections. His cell mates would be more likely to be trading war stories with Jared than going after him.

If ever there was an example of us having too many laws, this is it--traveling for the purpose of doing something that's legal is illegal.

Yeah but if they made less laws then there'd be less of a need for lawyers. So you shut your mouth.

Is there proof these prostitutes were actually underage? I highly doubt Jared was asking for ID. Could have been 18 year olds masquerading as underage girls for the creeps into that.

I guess we will never know, but apparently enough proof for him to plead guilty to some heafty charges.

 Just curious because prostitutes aren't the most honest people around.

I know in porn, it is illegal to portray the people involved as being underage even though they are of legal age. I suspect there's a law something along the lines of trying to have sex with someone you believe to be underage even if they aren't.

Subway Restaurant Chain Now Admits It Received "Serious" Complaint About Fogle

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Subway restaurant chain said it received a "serious" complaint about Jared Fogle when he was the company's spokesman but that the complaint did not imply any criminal sexual activity.

The company issued a statement Friday saying it has completed an internal investigation into whether it was alerted to concerns about Fogle, who agreed last month to plead guilty to having paid for sex acts with girls as young as 16 and having received child pornography. The company has severed its ties to him.

Subway's investigation included a review of more than a million online comments and interviews with past and present employees and managers of the company and an advertising fund, the statement said.

Subway spokeswoman Kristen McMahon said the company received the "serious" complaint in 2011 from Rochelle Herman-Walrond, a former journalist from Florida who revealed publicly to WWSB-TV in Sarasota last month that she also took her concerns to the FBI and secretly recorded her phone conversations with Fogle for more than four years to assist the agency's investigation.

Jared arguably didn't molest a child.
True, but he evidently did have CP as well as pay for sex with a minor. While having sex with a 17 may in and of itself have been legal inside the state it is pretty likely a female of that age was forced into that lifestyle.

Everything you just said is true as well. Just wanted to correct those on the previous page.

Been wondering how long they've known about this.
Only four years, apparently.
So of the million comments they got they're now beholden to hone in and and investigate this one?

That seems a pretty high bar.
Comments? When a journalist who has worked with your spokesperson calls and warns you about him, probably a good idea to look into it, yeah.

Jared arguably didn't molest a child.
Jared didn't confess/admit to molesting a child, by the definition of child that you are using. But if you think that he is going to jail willingly for eight years for something that arguably isn't illegal then I worry for your clients.

Huh? He's going to prison for possessing child porn (as well as crossing state lines to essentially solicit a 17 year old prostitute). That's something different than molest.

And he's doing it without a fight. Correct me if I am wrong as I haven't been following this thread too closely but haven't you been arguing that having sex with a 17 year old is not necessarily child molestation because some states consider that to be the age of consent?

You're confusing the "without a fight" part (which isn't even true of itself, he took a plea where his sentencing calculation will be done more favorably than if he had lost at trial) with the factual basis for his pleas (which were not to child molestation).

In looking this up, most states are legal at 17.

37 states have an age of consent of 17 or lower.

In most of the other states where it is still 18, there are rules that allow a <18 year old to have consent as long as the other person is not significantly older.
