Jason Hill ... (WHO?!?!?!) (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Unreal.

As Jaguars receiver Jason Hill prepares to face Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on Sunday, he’s publicly proclaiming that he has nothing to worry about.

In fact, Hill said he believes that the reputation of Revis and the Jets is more about the media coverage they get than about the way they play.

“I think sometimes they get overhyped,” Hill told the Florida Times-Union. “I talked to Drew [Coleman], Drew played there. He says it’s just the aura of New York. They got a big media. That’s not the Jacksonville paper, that’s the big New York Times paper so they get more pub. That’s what it is.
Rex's reply on WFAN:"I can tell Jason Hill this; THE best corner in football - and it's not close - is Darrelle Revis. So we'll see how he feels after the game."

BUT WAIT... it gets better. Hill is doubtful to play. Now his boys have to pay the price for his big mouth.

Feeling a lot better about my Jets pick in the suicide pool this week.

And despite the fact the Jags have miraculously beaten the Jets 6 of the last 7, it was Hill who had you nervous about the selection?!? Nothing to see here, move along.Last 7 games mean nothing: If the Jags even compete in this game, I may serve myself up some crow. Beat down, NY style.

That's his quote? That quote is 100% factually correct and applicable to any team that plays in New York. It's the media capital of the world. Don't see the big deal here.

If it takes a comment like that to get Cromartie and Revis fired up to play their best, then I've seriously misjudged their abilities.

Stories like this are so overblown. Does anyone really believe that this makes a lick of difference in how this game will play out? I'm sure the Jets D was planning to take the day off, but now? Hell no! It's on.

SP needs less threads like this.

I'm sure all of your 160 posts were higher quality.

I'm worried about this game, mainly because of the fact that the Jets always struggle against the Jags. I think the Hill/Revis aspect is overrated, because the Jets secondary was going to shut down all the Jags' WRs anyway, but my concern is Lewis and MJD having a good day against the Jets LBs and safeties, and the Jets trying to hard to run the ball against a good D-line instead of passing to exploit a terrible secondary.

You should see how they slack off during a game when WRs tell reporters how good the Jets are and that Revis already belongs in the HoF.:reversepsychology:

Listen to the tone of Rex's voice before you pass judgement whether this is news or not. He was NOT pleased.

And it's been leading WFAN's sports flash every hour.

Not only that, but they weren't useless threads bumping relevant threads down. So what's your point? Or were you bragging that you've got time to post 4,000 times a year on a fantasy football board?Quality and quantity frequently have a negative correlation and this is certainly the case in this thread. Just by posting about something pointless in a pointless thread I'm decreasing the quality of my posts, so I guess you got me here. To salvage a little bit, I'm just going to politely ask that you think next time "is there any fantasy relevant information to this thread?" before you create something like this. You'll be doing all of us a favor and it will increase the quality of the SP overall.

First off, Jason Hill should just be quiet. He doesn't have the credentials to call anyone out.

Revis is going to shutdown whoever he covers- this is going to happen whether he's called out or not.

Jason Hill? Who? The guy is a zero. A nobody. A never was and a never will be. He's on a team with horrid WR's. That's why he's in the league.

Rex keeps hanging his hat on that. Charles Woodson just keeps accumulating hardware. :lmao:

DARRELLE REVIS FIRES BACK AT JASON HILL

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Is Jason Hill on the back of a milk carton? Because Darrelle Revis can't put a face to the name. Revis is used to getting snarky remarks from Chad Ochocinco or Randy Moss in his heyday, but not ... who?

"I don't even know who that dude is," said the New York Jets cornerback. "What's his name again?"

Hill, Jason -- 26 years old, 6-foot, 202 pounds. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver with a hobbled hip has 55 career catches in six seasons and had just 11 last year. That fine resume aside, Hill called out Revis, saying that his sterling reputation was due in part to the New York media machine.

"I think the whole New York is overhyped," Hill said. "Him personally, he's a good player, Pro Bowl player, I'm trying to make it to the Pro Bowl, too. This'll be a good game to put some notches on our belts, too. It's the New York Times versus the Jacksonville paper. New York Times, they got a lot more viewers than you got."

Jets safety Jim Leonhard said: "I don't know how you consider someone overhyped if he's never guarded you."

When Revis heard what whoever the heck that guy is had to say, he got a bit of a gleam in his eye. Overhyped?

"He'll find out come Sunday," Revis said.

"I don't know if that's the guy you want to mess with," safety Eric Smith said. Unfortunately, Hill's hip injury has him listed as doubtful for the Jets game Sunday at 1 p.m.

When told that his star corner got called out by a receiver who might not make it onto the field, Jets coach Rex Ryan paused.

"You're kidding, right?"

After an offseason in which the Jets lost the stakes for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, Ryan had no trouble identifying Revis and what he means to the Jets defense.

"I can tell Jason Hill this, and anybody else: There are a lot of good receivers in this league and all that. The best corner in football, and it's not close, is Darrelle Revis," he said.

Hill made his comments to the Florida Times-Union and referenced a conversation with former Jets defensive back Drew Coleman.

"This is a league full of great players. I think sometimes they get overhyped," Hill said. "I talked to Drew, Drew played there. He says it's just the aura of New York. They got a big media. That's not the Jacksonville paper, that's the big New York Times paper so they get more pub. That's what it is.

"It's a game that we all play. He been playing the game, Revis, just as long as I've been playing. This is a game full of good players making plays. He just made a lot more plays on TV than we've made being here in Jacksonville. He's a good player. We respect him. Hopefully he respects us because we're going to bring it just like they're going to bring it."

Revis was just disappointed he might not be able to meet Hill on the field, even if Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine decided Hill was good enough to warrant coverage by Revis.

"Well," Revis said, "he shouldn't have been talking in the first place because he can't back it up now."

(EXACTLY!!!)

"What's the odds of him even seeing Darrelle?" linebacker Bart Scott said. "Think we're going to put our best corner on (Hill)?"

The Jets are going to attract a certain amount of attention because of a coach so extroverted it verges on comic. Ryan's comments are annoying for many opponents, but it's coupled with the ability to back it up on the field. The Jets have reached the AFC title game two straight years, and it's hard to get overlooked in the wake of that success.

"When you're in a big market this is what happens," Revis said. "You're in the newspaper every day. We're one of the best teams in the league, you get all the TV time you get. Speaking of Jacksonville, that's just a totally different story. It's a different market and those guys don't get showcased as much. The only one that gets showcased is (tight end) Marcedes (Lewis) and (running back Maurice) Jones-Drew. The Jason Hill guy I don't even know who the guy is. So whatever he says, he's trying to get in the paper, I guess."

Leonhard said the Jets face this a lot, but the Jets have earned the media attention.

"I'm sure a lot of people don't like it," Leonhard said. "There is a lot of attention on this city and there is a lot of attention on this team. That's what happens when you've been winning football games. Obviously Rex isn't afraid to go out there to the media and say things, but for the most part we've gone out there and backed it up."

The Jaguars, who released quarterback David Garrard the week before the season started, were 8-8 last season.

"I guarantee if Jacksonville goes to the next two AFC championships, they'll get plenty of action," Scott said.

Revis, for one, should probably send Hill a Get Well Soon card, because he'd like nothing better than to see the wide receiver on the field Sunday.

"I wish he was playing, I hope he still plays so we can see Sunday," Revis said. "That's my biggest concern. He needs to get on the field and play so he can back it up."
Frankly, I think some of you owe me an apology. You know who you are. This isn't "Shark Pool-worthy news" ...??? REALLY? The fact that this no-name might have inspired the Jets to shut out Jacksonville this week isn't news? You think Jack Del Rio is THRILLED that Hill made those comments? It's like none of you have ever fastened a chinstrap before. This game is ALL about emotion. Stuff like this matters.

he debate wasn't whether this is a story. Hell ESPN lives for this stuff. Same with WFAN cuz it hypes up the fans and sells ad space. Same with the teams for that matter as they are all in the business of getting on ESPN, hyping the game etc. Our debate was this having any effect on the actual on field performance of Revis, Bart Scott, or any NY Jets player. This is essentially 'the prefight weigh in" all hype no substance. Like if Frazier had only talked more smack at that weigh in Tyson wouldn't have dropped him in 31 seconds.

Like absent this shtick Reavis would have just have assed it. BUT NOW IT'S FO' REALZ DAWG. :boxing: IT'S ON! :lmao:

That's a pretty horrible apology. So I'll ask again. Do you think Jack Del Rio loves the fact that Hill made those comments? We all know the answer is "NO."So tell me WHY the answer is no.

Hill's got his foot in his mouth, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Revis started as expected, but now it's borderline arrogance. He's almost crossing a line now too.

I think Rex is exactly what the Jets needed to get out of the Pats shadow and they've done that. Few other teams have and no Jets fan wanted to be BB's whipping boy for "forever" either. He's excitable and mouthy and I like it and expect it.

Hill's not wrong-or Coleman- The number of people in the media in the NY/NJ area far exceeds most other areas especially jacksonville. There's probably never been a NY team that wasn't over-hyped. To put it in proper perspective, the 1-15 Jets were considered the best 1-15 team ever. Think about that for a sec before ya judge Hill's comments.

If I were Rex and Co I'd be giving Thomas a million 3-4 yard catches like last week. Titans seemed to do that well. He's contained and that's not likely to be sufficient yardage. Maybe that's Revis' job. It would seem more appropriate than covering Hill.

'Jason Wood said:

Exactly. Here's the thing: we've heard athletes say all the right stuff before in interviews, and it's boring. What, is a WR supposed to fear Revis? Is he supposed to be haunted? No. These guys are all fantastic athletes. What makes some of them special is the innate belief in their own abilities. Yes, Revis is a brilliant CB. But if a WR is thinking, "Wow, I can't get open on this guy," then he never will get open.

The people in this thread seem to be the only ones who don't have a problem with Hill's comments.

This was just on NFL Live.

Tedy Bruschi: "Here's a trash-talking rule. If we don't know who you are, there's a problem."

Mark Schlereth: "Keep your mouth shut when you're playing against great players in this league. I'm not a trash-talk guy. I don't want to give anybody added incentive, especially not the best player at his position in the league."

Trey Wingo: "And oh, with his hip injury, there's a possibility that he may not even be on the field to PROVE that Revis is overated."

[laughter on the set]

And with that... my work here is done. Disagree with me to your heart's content, but Hill was stupid to open his mouth.

I love Revis' response, perfect.

But I also don't have a problem with Hill saying what he said. I don't have any problem with a team talking a little smack, even if they are the underdog. When tough defensive teams lose, it's not to teams that are all respectful, and aw shucks. It's to teams that smack them back in the mouth, and don't back down.

And hell, he's probably right.

“I think sometimes they get overhyped,....”

- Hill

Does this even qualify as trash talk? Slow news day in the NFL.

I don't even particularly like Rex or Revis, but Revis saying "I don't even know who that dude is" is just classic and ####### hilarious. :lmao:

Seriously though, what has Revis, or any other Jet for that matter outside of Plax and Santonio ever done? Nothing.

I think it's funny that fans get all bent out of shape because athletes always give lame standard answers that really say nothing to questions from the media. Then when athletes do say something the same fans freak out like it's a huge deal. I don't agree with what Jason Hill said, but it doesn't bother me that he actually had an opinion and stated it. What is he suppose to say? "Revis is awesome, I'm so lucky to on the same field with such an amazing player. I hope he doesn't hurt me." Whatever.

I thought it was rather predictable and mundane. It is also telling that this supposed great player doesn't know the names of the players who he is playing this weekend. Is he suggesting that he doesn't watch any game tape or prepare? No wonder Dez schooled him this past week.

What is he suppose to say? "Revis is awesome, I'm so lucky to on the same field with such an amazing player. I hope he doesn't hurt me." Whatever.
If only shutting his mouth and not saying anything was an option!

Nope, this is not a story AT ALL!

- Lead story of every Sirius NFL Radio update

- Lead story on every WFAN (N.Y.) update

- Featured in the "news" section at ProFootballTalk

- Covered on NFL Total Access

And now this from ESPN:
Were you trying to make Jason Hill's point?
Exactly.
 Yeah, that makes perfect sense... if the story only mentioned Revis and not Hill.

You really don't think the media focuses on stories from the big media markets and large fan bases?

Sure they do. Now if you could reply to my other post right before this one, I'm anxious to hear your answer.

It's only news because it's Revis. No one outside of Jax cares what Jason Hill says normally. If he said something similar about Johnathan Joseph before the Jags/Texans game it would be news in Jacksonville and Houston and that's about it. Go back and read his quote, he never says Revis is terrible, he just says he's is over-hyped because he is a Jet and plays in the biggest media market. As pregame smack talk goes it's actually pretty benign.

Jason Hill? Who? The guy is a zero. A nobody. A never was and a never will be. He's on a team with horrid WR's. That's why he's in the league.
And he still made the NFL. So what does that make you?
One helluva lot smarter thn he is and one helluva lot richer. 5 to 10 years upon being cut from the NFl, he will be broke like 80% of NFL players. How ya like that ####?

I don't even particularly like Rex or Revis, but Revis saying "I don't even know who that dude is" is just classic and ####### hilarious. :lmao:
I thought it was rather predictable and mundane. It is also telling that this supposed great player doesn't know the names of the players who he is playing this weekend. Is he suggesting that he doesn't watch any game tape or prepare? No wonder Dez schooled him this past week.

Three months ago who was the best center in the NFL?

You could have made a pretty good case for Andre Gurode. 5 times in the Pro Bowl, 2 time ALL pro, #57 on the top 100.. oh and he plays for the Cowboys who have a huge fan base.

Then he gets released. I'm not saying Revis isn't great, I think he is the best CB currently playing. But big markets and big fan bases do get their players hyped. Which is pretty much all Hill said.

:lmao: :lmao: I hope every receiver that Revis guards schools him to the tune of 1 catch in 52 minutes.

Your capitalist ### could own a frigging oil well for all I care. Hill's pretty average, but he's still played in the NFL for five years and that's infinity times cooler than the life of some jerk who spends his time on a forum pretending to own NFL players.

Reading comprehension down? What do all three of those guys have in common? they make 6 figures to hype the #### out of everything and run their mouths. This is about as important as the idiotic tripe that Bruschi blasted Ochocinco for.Do you honestly think Revis will try and harder than he would have before? You are as caught up in the hype as anyone (and yes that does prove Hill's point)

You are confusing importance with sensationalism. Many small minded people do the same. Most of these people watch TMZ a lot and read People magazine. I bet you do too.

And excellent retort to my analogy of the pre fight weigh ins importance on the outcome of a boxing match. :crickets:

If you had been critically thinking as opposed to searching for what brilliant insights Trey Wingo was going to add here you could have made fun of my typing have assed it :bag: instead of half-assed it. This place is slipping...
