Jason Taylor to the Bucs? (1 Viewer)

=Smackdown=

Footballguy
WQAM Mandich says Taylor to Bucs for #52

Says they are trying to work out cap numbers.

Sorry no link yet - heard on the radio

if the eagles can trade a 2nd rounder to get Taylor i would be happy with that. Their 2nd rounder is even better than the Bucs, and the Eagles should be able to trade Lito for a 2nd rounder to replace the one they just traded away.

Makes sense. I think if there are going to be trades in the draft, we'll hear about a lot of them today, with the new shorter time limits and all. MIA, KC, ATL are going to be entirely different teams come Monday - and they need to be!

If the Eagles are looking for a #2 for Sheppard, why dont the Dolphins and Phili swap Taylor for Lito straight up?

Contract numbers.Swapping the same big contracts is not to the teams' benefit - nor does it help either team get "younger."

Miami is already getting younger in a big way. It's beneficial to also have some veteran leadershipwith all the youth.
Then why swap a player who has been on the team (Taylor) for one that has not (Sheppard)

Needs. One is a CB and the other is a DE.Why do any teams swap players ?My point is if you are rebuilding, you don't do it withoutat least a little bit veteran leadership on the team.

Nicely put. Yet if I were looking for veteranship from amongst Lito & Jason, I personally would pretty much stick with Jason Taylor. That is just me of course.

Agreed - and that's my point as well. The question is why wouldn't they trade Taylor for Sheppard if both teams were looking for #2s for those players. My point about contracts remains. Plus, the publicity of getting rid of Taylor for another vet makes no sense to the fans - Taylor is beloved in So. Fla.

Understand and agree.Leadership wise Jason Taylor is the man to have on your team.My initial past was in regard to the following comment."Swapping the same big contracts is not to the teams' benefit - nor does it help either team get "younger.""Point being...At this point, I don't think the Dolphins need to trade veteran players like Taylor to get 'younger".They've got plenty of youth. Vets play a vital role in terms of providing leadership and guidance to young players.

Apparently Mandich is now back-tracking and saying the Jags have also offered?

Also mentioning a possible Chris Simms involvement?

I'm not really following you here. Lito for Taylor makes no sense, on any level. Miami doesn't need a Corner more than a DE, Taylor's the better player, better leader, and better for the city. I could be wrong, but he seems a solid Parcells guy, unless Parcells wants to completely dump the team in his image. Taylor for a pick at least gets youth and gives JT a chance at a title.

I don't like this trade for the Bucs at all. Sure they won the weakest division in the NFL last season, but they are not that good. Trading a 2nd rounder than could be a very good CB, WR or RB prospect for an aging and slightly disinterested DE doesn't make much sense. But then again, outside of the O-linemen they've drafted recently I've disagreed with pretty much everything Gruden has done and the Bucs have been pretty good.

I dont know, maybe because Lito is a better player than anyone they most likely will draft with a 2nd pick? He is also a lot younger than Taylor. While JT may be better now, he wont be playing at such a high level much longer. That is why.

ESPN is now saying Taylor to the Jags for a 2nd and 4th could happen before the draft.
So they are taking a lower 2nd than the Bucs' pick (dropping 6 spots, I think) just to get an additional 4th?I hope that is posturing to see if the Bucs will sweeten their deal. Or to get some other teams higher in the draft order interested in sending a 2nd round pick to Miami for JT.I would be fine getting another 2nd for JT - that would give Miami the 32nd, 57th, and one more. Just look at the kinds of players expected to still be available in the second - they could address QB, LB, CB, WR, or LG in that round and come away with four starters in the first two rounds. And then pick again at 64 . . .JJ stockpiled picks and built a decent team. Parcells is as good at it as JJ. In Bill I trust.

just wanted to chime in and let you know Im pullin' for your boys to get the sweetest deal possible, Levin. I know its gonna suck seein' your guy leave town. What can ya do? Should be a good move for the team, ultimately. Naturally, Id be glad to see that beast out of the division. But hating the fact that NE couldnt bring him on board. Knew it was a long shot.

Thanks Twitch.

It would make the composition of the team very interesting if they could stockpile a few extra picks in the top-3 rounds.

I really like the depth of the draft this year - getting a lot of solid players will be more beneficial to the team than milking JT until he retires, it would be beneficial to JT if he was sent from Miami to a contender, and it would be beneficial to a team missing that one superstar piece at DE - Win-Win-Win.

How afraid would Peyton Manning be if he had to stare at JT twice a year again.

You guys really think Taylor at this stage is worth a two? Not to mention taking on his contract.
I do, personally. I think he's got 3 good years left, especially if he goes to another Florida team where he'll enjoy the surroundings and hopefully the team will be competitive. He's making alot of dough. But he's still a very productive player, and at the very least he plays out his current deal which still has 2 years on it. Garcia is an old dude. TB needs to make a push. Any team close needs to make a push and someone like Taylor can put them over the top. Id be all over it.

Perhaps he does. I just don't see Tampa as a real threat in the NFC. Not after I saw what the Giants did in the playoffs at Tampa. I think anyone that saw that performance thought that the team really had a legit shot in the NFC after seeing that defensive performance. (Obviously at that time you probably don't believe they go on to win the Super Bowl...you just consider it a heck of a lot more possible to happen).Felt like a JV offense (Tampa) vs. that Giant defense. All the credit in the world to the Giants defense in that game.....as good as I've seen in the playoffs in a long time. Just so dominant. Garcia literally had 2 seconds on every throw.I think no matter the defense additions for the Bucs, that they just don't have enough fire power on offense (even discounting the whole Giant game in the playoffs).

I hear ya, but they cant stop trying. The SB winning team always seems like an unstoppable force. Who know? The Giants might not even make the playoffs this year. Its a whole lot different being the hunted. But getting back to TB, adding Taylor to a line with Gaines Adams on the other side could potentially cause alot of problems. I dont know what theyre gonna do on O because youre right. That unit flat out stinks.

I think you could yank out tapes of the Giants over the last two years, and say some of the same things.I think there are some real bad teams, that need to be thinking two years ahead, and there are some teams that can put some pieces together and make a run. If the Bucs can get the Jason Taylor we know for 2 years, a mid-2nd isn't much of a price to pay.

I hear ya, but they cant stop trying.
Please tell my Bears this. :kicksrock:
I can handle the losing. When my President or GM or whoever that guy was starts singing musical ballads to my best player, Im starting to lose hope. Hopefully, theyll make a better showing at the draft tomorrow. Oline early, RB in the 2nd? Something like that? How bout that young RB Kevin Smith out of Central Florida? I wish you well tomorrow.

if the eagles can trade a 2nd rounder to get Taylor i would be happy with that. Their 2nd rounder is even better than the Bucs, and the Eagles should be able to trade Lito for a 2nd rounder to replace the one they just traded away.
Taylor is staying close to South Florida. Sorry Eagles fans.

The Bucs have spent the last 5 years getting rid of heafty aged vets on the defensive side of the ball. i don't see this happening. Besides, isn't he better suited for a 3-4?
yeah, all those years he dominaed in the 4-3 with Wanny were with him playing out of position

I'd be really happy if the Jags got Taylor, even at his age, because it means they won't waste their 1st-round pick on Calais Campbell.
