Javon Walker: where does he rank in your mind? (1 Viewer)

Just trying to gauge what Sharks here think of Javon Walker moving forward. He's got two great match-ups the next two weeks -- OAK and CLE -- then IND, PITT, SD, OAK, KC, SEA, SD, AZ, CIN (playoffs).

Besides the two SD games and PITT, the Broncos seems to have some serious shootout potential against the likes of SEA, INDY, KC and CIN, and some likely cakewalks against OAK (twice), CLE and AZ. So, do you think Javon's a reliable weekly #2 starter behind, e.g. a Marvin, Smith, Boldin-type? Do you think he could be right up there with #2 (with occasional #1 numbers) WRs like DJax, Andre Johnson, Plax, Chambers, etc.?

The cons: Plummer scares me a bit, Shanny will always be a run-first guy, and Walker seems to have only posted fairly solid, not great, numbers so far...but he could beak out if the schedule above is any indication.

Thoughts?

i rank him as a solid WR3, personally. i don't think the Den passing game is anything i want to rely on. plus, it didn't look to me like he was getting many looks until late in the game against Balt. good sign? bad sign? i'm not sure. but it's a sign. i think it means he'll be inconsistent the rest of the way.

he's like a santana moss, i think. but his breakout games won't be as spectacular. solid WR3, really low end WR2, in my mind.

Javon's had one big game and one bye week, so it's hard to get a read on his trend. I'm feeling pretty good about him after the Baltimore game. He ran hard and isn't showing any signs of holding back because of last year's injury. Plummer looked to him often. And if the running game keeps progressing, things should get easier for the entire offense.

Physically he looks real good. I've been very impressed with how he's looked running routes, making yards after the catch and so forth. Having a healthy Smith on the other side will continue to help him because Smith is still a talented WR who defenses have to respect. I think the worst-case scenario for Walker is Top 25. Best case is Top 20. I think the Broncos' offense as a whole will improve and when it does Walker is going to deliver.

:goodposting: I agree. Plummer is looking to him as well. Call me one of the few that isn't worried about Plummer at this point. He looked like a different QB in the second half last week. If he doesn't break out this week then I may worry, but I see Walker as a solid number 2 for the rest of the season. He looks like the Javon of old.

:goodposting: He did a great job gaining tough extra yards after the catch. He fought some tacklers for a few tough ones, gotta love that. His current stats extrapolated would be something along the lines for 64 for 1250 and 8. In my league, that equates to 174 points which would have made him the 11th best receiver last year. I believe he'll get more than 64 catches, but could be wrong. It is a run heavy offense, but Smith's gotten around 80 the last few years. I think Walker finishes top 10-12. Low end WR1-Great WR2

I was really worried about him after the first two weeks because he couldn't hang on to the damn ball. He looked a lot better in the New England and Baltimore games. I'm almost ready to believe that the horribly first two weeks were an aberration resulting from the fact that he missed an entire season worth of football... almost.

Another solid game (not necessarily statistically, but a solid game in Real NFL terms) and I might move him up a bit, but right now I have him in the middle of a big WR cluster, right around the 15-24 range going forward. Decent WR2.

 I was thinking about this when I read the "Top 250 forward", let's just say I'd rank Walker about 10 spots higher than the staff does.I'd place him above Chambers for sure, below AJ, and about the same as DJax and Plax.Good #2 from here on out. There's a lot of WRs you can argue would make good #2's, so I can see a lot of variation after the #1's.

Actually, I believe I was consistantly one of the people who was most down on Darius Watts, due simply to the fact that Denver's WR3 is always overrated (Adrian Madise, Chris Cole, Kevin Kasper, etc, etc, etc). :hophead:

Pretty small range there don't you think? I agree with the worst case scenario, but Top 20 for best case seems low. Smith is aging so Walker's really by far the best receiving option on the Broncos. If Plummer can turn it around, then I could see Walker in the top 10-12. Also, so far this year, they've played some really good defenses (StL the exception). The Broncos won't average 10pts a game for the rest of the season.

It probably is a small range but I'm a Walker owner after trading for him last week so I'm trying to temper my expectations. :D Seriously, I'd say Top 15-20 is best case. I don't see him being Top 10 this year although I'd be thrilled if he was. Next year, though, I could see it.

I might place him in the Housh range, rest of season potential-wise, as Housh also seems like a great buy-relatively-low guy, considering Henry's problems. He and Walker seem to be in similar situations, i.e. just as talented/explosive as their "#1" guys (Chad and Rod Smith, though Walker could be the #1 over Smith).
