Jeopardy Baby, Ooooh-ooh-oooooh (4 Viewers)

Looks like I was wrong - the current champ didn't even win 5 games. He trailed again and missed a relatively easy Final.
At least he bet strategically, but a strange bet by the challenger actually worked this time.

I'm kind of glad he's gone. Either he was over proud of his history with trivia competitions, or they over-hyped it. But it sure was annoying.

so if I'm understanding this right, Jeopardy Masters is going to be a kind of league? And every year/season there will be past champs/great players brought back? Does the inaugural Masters champ also return to defend the crown? I can't wait to see a game played by James and hosted by Ken...

This was clarified on the show’s podcast yesterday.

There will be 20 games (10 episodes with 2 games each). Every possible combination will play. The player with the most wins is declared the tournament winner. The top three return for the next season. The winner of the next TOC gets the fourth spot for the next season. Then there will be another tournament called the Jeopardy Invitational for big winners of the past. The winner of this will get a spot in the next Jeopardy Masters and the second place finisher might as well. The bottom three from the first Jeopardy Masters will be in the Jeopardy Invitational to try to win their way back.

When you factor in the silent A at the beginning of Aillinois (it goes well with the silent S at the end), and that the Mississippi River actually makes a huge turn into Alabama that no one other than the other 2 know about, they were correct.

And here I just assumed that none of them knew what a mnemonic was.
 
"There are five states. Here are three of them. We're giving you the first letters of the other two, and an obvious clue about their relationship to the three. All you have to do is name those two. Go." A decent proportion of sixth graders should be able to get that.

I gotta figure this is the answer.
 
Forget knowing what a mnemonic is. Even if you've never seen the chef photo, or even if you don't recognize that these states all lie on the MS River. Just a 5th grade grasp of US Geography should tell you Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, oh ok those are three states that touch each other starting north and going south, so A & L, well that has to be Arkansas and Louisiana.

I guess kudos to the writers for coming up with a triple-stumper FJ clue....but geez that's an easy question.

Yesterday's champ was the 4th in 4 days. I won't make any predictions bc we saw how quickly Yogesh was dispatched, but Troy has game. He's another legend from the general quizzing community - by reputation infinitely nicer, and less arrogant, than the 3-day champ who lost on Monday.

His wife is a former Jeopardy contestant (2009); in fact, the NYT write up for their wedding reveals they met on the show's message boards. There he recruited her to an even geekier, nerdier (invitation only) trivia forum. Aw, true love.
 
Uh I haven’t watched Friday yet, but uh I hope Troy didn’t uh win.

I realize lots of contestants do it, but his “uhs” were very noticeable.
 
I like his aggressive betting. And I don't mind displays of emotion -- I don't agree that Jeopardy players should act like robots even if they don't want to. But his shtick was a bit much.

Sad to see Bill Hader Vol. 2 go, but we'll see him again in the TOC.

Way too much today. I'm developing a strong dislike for him.

I was rooting for D'Artagnon there.
