Jeremy Accardo, Tor (RP), has been pitching outstanding so far this season. He has yet to give up a run this season and has only allowed 4 hits in 11.2 innings of work. He has only allowed 1 hit in his last 8.2 pitched. He came in and struck out the side against the Indians tonight before Frasor came in walked two, gave up a 3-run home run, and then walked another. Frasor also blew a save on Saturday against the Rangers walking two and giving up 3 ERs. When the Blue Jays dealt for Accardo, they considered him to be their closer of the future, as he has some experience closing in San Francisco when Benetiz got hurt. I think he may get an opportunity to close again soon if Frasor continues to show that he has no control. I would certainly recommend putting him on the radar in AL-only leagues, if not picking him up for middle relief help in ERA and WHIP with save potential.

As a Frasor owner, thanks for the info.... . I'm starting to get very impatient with him.

Good idea, Frasor is going to be out of that role sooner rather than later. I think I will make this move too.

This is the same guy that had an ERA of almost 6.00 and a WHIP of 1.640 last year after being traded to Toronto?

Yeah, but he is a young pitcher who has shown significant improvement since last year. Maybe he will revert to his old ways, but as of now it is pretty clear that he is outperforming Frasor. He is certainly worth watching.

Just as I predicted, John Gibbons announced yesterday that he is considering replacing Jason Frasor with Jeremy Accardo in the closer role. While Gibbons didn't make any official statement, he said that he's not locked into Frasor and is considering both Accardo and Scott Downs as his potential replacements. It sounds like Frasor's time is about done.

Accardo also pitched a solid 2 innings of scoreless ball last night, giving up only one hit, and striking out 2 in the 9th and 10th innings of a tied game.

Downs also pitched well in 1.1 innings, giving up no runs, walking one, and striking out 3.

I still think my money is on Accardo.

Downs, who has mainly been used as a situational reliever this season, hasn't allowed a run in 12 appearances for Toronto. The left-hander has given up just four hits and has 10 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings

It looks like the Blue Jays are going to give Accardo the first shot in a potential closer-by-committee situation. Here are some quotes from the Blue Jays website.

"For now, the Blue Jays will aim to fill the void at the back end of the bullpen with their current cast of relievers. Both Gibbons and Ricciardi named right-hander Jeremy Accardo as a potential candidate for save opportunities, but neither wanted to commit to naming just one pitcher for the job."

"We'll give Accardo a chance," Ricciardi said. "I think [Casey] Janssen and [scott] Downs will get a chance to do it at some point. We'll see. We'll probably just go with whoever is hot. I think if we named someone right now, it wouldn't be fair to the player that hasn't done it."

If Accardo comes in and pitches well from the start in the closer role, it seems like he can lock it down.

Tonight, he came in in the ninth in the closest thing the Blue Jays have had to save opportunity in 2 weeks and pitched a perfect 9th, striking out the side. It seems to me as if Accardo will get any upcoming save opportunities until he starts blowing it, but he's been nothing less than perfect so far this season.
