Jerome Bettis doesn't make the list. (1 Viewer)

It doesn't look like there are that many good RB candidates coming up in the next 5 years. Martin is clearly a better candidate and it's likely he gets in next year. After that, the next good candidate is Edgerrin James. I don't see anyone coming on the ballot for several years after that with a case over Bettis. Maybe the voters will take that opportunity to look at Terrell Davis but it seems the current voters don't value players who had a few great years and then had career ending injuries. Sterling Sharpe would be an example at WR. Maybe they'll go 5-10 years without electing any RBs. None of that seems likely. At some point, in a weak year, Bettis will get the 5th spot among modern candidates. (over a more deserving OL or defensive player)
Strahan and Larry Allen will be locks next year
Strahan and Larry Allen aren't eligible next year. Will Shields is though.

Rotoworld had a story saying they were but once again were wrong.Does signing for one day push him back 5 years?

Allen and Strahan both played in 2007-08, so they won't be eligible until January 2013.I'm pretty sure that the ceremonial one-day contracts don't count against your eligibility. Jerry Rice signed a 1-day contract with San Francisco in August 2006, yet he was inducted into the HOF in 2010.

I don't know who "him" is that you're asking about. The official by-laws that outline the Pro Football Hall of Fame's selection process states any player is eligible when he, "has not played or been on an active regular- or post-season player roster for five consecutive seasons."Will Shields is eligible in 2012. Larry Allen and Strahan as well as Ogden and Sapp are elgible in 2013.
