Jerome Harrison - Current Projections (1 Viewer)

I've watched every Browns game for the past 8 years or so, and one of the things that puzzled me most during the Romeo years was why he didn't call Harrison's number more often. It seemed like every time he touched the ball, good things happened. I mean real life football game good things. Moving the chains, busting out a big play - stuff that gives a fan some hope - especially during those years when there wasn't much of that to go around.Last year, the team committed to running the football and Harrison flat out delivered. People who are beleaguering the fact that there were an enormous amount of carries and the fact that these were weaker run defenses are forgetting that the commentators were constantly (and rightly so, I might add) bringing up the fact the fact that Cleveland hadn't scored a rushing touchdown in some insanely long number of quarters. It was embarrassing. The Browns, with Mangini at the helm, started to give the ball to Harrison consistently and the Browns started to win football games. I remember Mangini being pissed when Harrison crossed the goal line on that 3rd TD of that huge game against KC. Taking a knee would have given the Browns the game, but a TD gave KC a chance. Harrison crossed the goal line anyway, and I'm all for it. Make a statement about what Browns football ought to be about. Run the ball & you just may win a few games!I like Hillis a lot. I think the Browns went out and got him because they want to run some funky formations and he is a good all around football player. I think he is the guy to have over Davis, but I think Harrison is the guy to have in this offense. He's put in the time. It is his turn to shine..02
Thank you.

I was just looking back at his numbers last year. He did not "start", have significant carries in, or play in 10 games last year. Yet, he ended up with 34 receptions and 220 yards. I've got to think if he plays the whole season he'll have just as many this year. I think it'd be a stretch to say that would be cut in half....I just traded for Harrison in a league. I'm not sure I believe in him, but this thread has helped me see a little glimmer of hope. We'll see what happens.

Harrison will handle the bulk of the work and coach Eric Mangini says he will have to handle it. "There's no more time to wait," Mangini said Monday. "He's going to get a lot of work."

Git er done son. Man I can't wait for the season to start. It's been too long!

Exactly what you want to hear as a Harrison owner. He could be the SOD this year.

This.

Browns need to run the ball with authority, two good pounder backs, so let's pound the ball. Just saying.... look at last year end of season.

Mangini seems like he doesn't like Harrison. I was disappointed with the amount of work he got yesterday. He had these numbers last year vs KC : 286 yards rushing 3 TDs. Let's see what happens this coming week...

Mangini has never liked harrison, I just wish he would give him the ball since I went through the trouble of drafting him, also lost my suicide pool in week 1... Really Browns, really?

Harrison busted a 39 yarder and almost scored. You would think that would earn some more touches. But hey let's split 12/21 carries with the fullback and wildcat-WR instead.

The shark move may be to pick up James Davis, when you consider Hillis' fumbling issues yesterday Mangini's seeming unwillingness to fully trust Harrison.

He also had 6 of 9 runs of -4,0,1,1,1,2. Hillis actually looked like the better RB yesterday minus the fumbling problems.

PizzaDeliveryGuy and I are on the same page.I'm going to quote myself from the post-game thread to save some typing.

I know fantasy owners are mad, because they're staring at YPC numbers instead of watching the game. But the problem with Harrison in Real Football™ is that he doesn't move the chains... it's either a big play or he gets stuffed at the line.

In today's game he had exactly one play that helped the team (the 39 yard scamper)... the rest of his touches netted zero first downs and frequently left us in 3rd and long situations. Although he showed his speed on that big play, he also ran through a gaping hole and wasn't touched for the first 32 yards. Here's his play by play from today's game.

(9:20) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 40 for 1 yard (54-G.Hayes).

(4:39) 35-J.Harrison up the middle to CLV 29 for no gain (54-G.Hayes).

(10:47) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 8 for 1 yard (54-G.Hayes).

(10:09) 35-J.Harrison left tackle to CLV 4 for -4 yards (54-G.Hayes).

(9:25) 35-J.Harrison left end to CLV 10 for 6 yards (91-S.White). <-- This was 3rd and 13... they gave him the short yardage.

(15:00) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 24 for 1 yard (92-B.Price, 20-R.Barber).

(12:36) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 45 for 2 yards (51-B.Ruud, 90-R.Miller).

(6:37) 35-J.Harrison up the middle to TB 10 for 39 yards (26-S.Jones).

(14:55) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 24 for 6 yards (93-G.McCoy, 94-K.Moore).

(12:48) 35-J.Harrison up the middle to TB 27 for 1 yard (94-K.Moore).

I'm not saying Hillis is amazing... but he has a more punishing style and seems to drive for 4 to 7 yards more often. He's a better receiver, and (imo) a much better blocker.

As I've said in previous posts... expect a full RBBC this year. My sense is that Hillis will probably earn more touches over the year than Harrison.

All aboard! James Davis just made Cleveland's roster due to injury, and his hype train is about to leave the station.Choo choo!
As a Browns homer, any insight as to why you think Davis may get a shot?

Isn't "Mangini's seeming unwillingness to fully trust Harrison" just simply wrong???? I mean on Mangini's part?At 00:17. You have a RB who fumbles twice and a QB who throws a bonehead INT with a lead, but let's not give it to this guy @ 00:17???

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010091200/2...neers#tab:watch

61 Plays.

At one point a 14-3 lead.

38 Passes. 23 Runs.

The playcalling on its own is just bad, no balance to begin with but....

9 carries to the fullback/HB who fumbled twice, 3 carries to the widcat-WR, 1 carry by the TIGHT END, and 38 passes for the guy who can no longer reliably get his passes past DB's and who got a bad Bucs team back in the game with his poor decision making.

The guy who carried the team to 4 straight wins last year and who busted the single best run of the game? 9 carries.

Sorry... sarcasm doesn't travel well on the internet. Here's my more straight-forward opinion.I expect James Davis to be a non-factor barring injury. He was a lock to be cut until Hardesty went onto IR, and Mangini already has both the thunder and lightning roles filled with Hillis and Harrison. On the other hand, it's the NFL, so stranger things have happened. But I don't think he's worth a roster spot in any but the deepest of RB-desperate leagues.

James Davis won't see the light of the day. I did the game recap for FBG this week and I saw nothing that would indicate that James Davis needs to be on the field. Harrison was good, and Hillis too when he wasn't fumbling. Both of them will see the workload. Even if one of them went down with an injury I can't see Davis getting a lot of work.

small sample sizes

I watched pretty much every offensive series yesterday that the Browns ran. Hillis is a perfect change of pace back but the Browns would be insane to try and use him as a starter. It really boggles my mind that they didnt give Harrison more carries especially with what he did last year and after the 40 yard run where he looked like a ray rice clone. The dude is good. Hillis looks like a dude that plays really really hard and gives his all on every play but he only has one speed and one direction when he gets the ball. I would be concern however that he will eventually steal gl carries from Harrison.
