Jerrico Cotchery 1 catch for yds what happened in Oakland (1 Viewer)

I couldn't see the game yesterday. For those that saw the game what was the deal with Cotchery. It looks like he was targeted 9 times and only had one completion with a couple of them getting intercepted. Was he running bad routes ? Was he being blanketed by the corner? Was he not being targeted most of the game ? or Was Favre just not getting the ball to him ?

Just wondering what the major malfunction was yesterday ?

Oak defense was decent but the Jet gameplan was awful - ran the ball a ton whioch was good but never attacked when they needed to. Cotchery is a good WR but you have to live with this as a Jet.

I'm pretty sure Cotchery was covered by Asomugha, getting shut down by him is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Cotch was pretty well blanketed most of the day, but still targeted 7 times (versus 5 for Coles). That and Favre being off on many of his throws pretty much sank Cotch's performance.

Ashomuga and Hall played tight man-to-man on Cotchery and Coles all day. So the Jets resorted to running the ball and throwing dinks and dunks to the tight end from a spread formation. It worked for one drive, but then Favre started getting hit too much. So after that they barely threw at all.

Not sure what to think about using him against KC this week..ie how much will they really have to throw the ball to win this game?

I have coles in one league and was against cotchery in both leagues this week...also started favre in one league. I watched a lot of the game. The Raiders D shut the Jets down except for some nice runs by Jones and Washington. First drive Favre hit his TE like 4-5 times, looked like he was going to slice them up all day. After that they must have made some adjustments, they were very tough all day.

The interesting thing was how many times the line was giving Favre all day long, and nobody could break open. Lot of 3 and 5 step drops, Brett was like 3-5 feet from Oakland lineman all day but they rarely if ever knocked him down - all 3 sacks were coverage sacks, never got a speed rush on him all day. Raiders totally shut down the vertical passing game with coverage alone.

8 passes defended...they can't stop the run, but that defensive backfield is impressive.

By the way they played against the Raiders, I think the Jets coaches thought that then. It was as if they were coached by the Herminator. I'm using him and hoping he calls his own plays and says the hell with Brian Schottenhemier.

nnamdi was all over him in the first half, but i saw cotchery leave the first half early as if he got hurt. I didn't really notice him in the 2nd...either he wasn't being thrown to or he wasn't playing. Coles got hurt on a play and didnt come back in the 2nd half, and the ONE throw to asomugha in the 2nd throw was a pass interference call and it was neither coles or cotchery.

Yahoo was reporting that Cotchery got hurt during the game and was used sparingly after that.
He was definitely hurt and out of the lineup for stretches of time. The targets may have been otherwise even higher for him, although as noted, the Raiders secondary pretty much had him bottled up all day regardless.

Something to be worried about? Could the injury effect his production, or do you think it's just a one-week thing?
Nothing I've heard indicates that he's going to miss any time - Mangini said that he was "banged up" during the game. Cotch is as tough as nails, so I wouldn't worry too much. I would keep an eye on Brad Smith being worked in a bit more though and getting a few more targets - he played well and may have earned some more PT in 3 WR sets.

I can certainly see Cotchery being limited in practice and we'll no more between now and Sunday. But I have come to expect bad beats so I'm waiting for worse news, but here's all I found so far from some Jets blogger.
* Mangini said Jerricho Cotchery got a little nicked up (didn't think he was going to tell us exactly what it was, did you?) and the extent of what is believed to be a leg injury won't be known until later in the week.

He left with injury and only played very little in the second half. Brad SMith was out there alot more than he was.

Cotchery said on his WFAN radio show today that it would be a game-time decision if he had to play today. He wouldn't specify his injury though.

I know he is a tough guy but it sounds like he is much less than 100%
