Jerry Porter (1 Viewer)

His talent is great, but he is being wated in Oak, why wouldn't they trade him if they could, and will they if they get a decent offer?

Yes they will trade him if they get a decent offer but therein lies the problem. Of all the guys in the NFL I'd tab him most likely to get traded before the deadline next week but I'm saying that and almost everything I've read says the Raiders are not getting any offers.

the issue of a Porter trade is twofold:

a. the Raiders said they would trade Porter if he gave back a prorated portion of his bonus from his new contract last year - HIGHLY UNLIKELY

b. the Raiders were asking for (2) 1st round picks, but may settle for a 1st round and another first day pick - HIGHLY UNLIKELY

They can't do what was done to Keyshawn/Owens anymore according to the bargaining agreement.

If they are stuck with a bad attitude player and the contract status will hurt the team financially, the best way to hurt the player back is by making sure they don't get contract incentives (starts, on active roster, statistics, etc).

If the player thinks they are pretty good, no game action means no chance at the Hall of Fame or even consideration as one of the best at their position. People's egos bruise deeply.

Trading the player means taking a cap hit (accelerated bonuses) that the team may not be willing (or able) to eat. Let alone a new contract for the player(s) they get in return. Again, not financially feasible.

No. Al Davis' opinion on Porter is much, much higher than the rest of the NFL's.

He wants some ludicrously high pick, the Raiders would be lucky to get a third-rounder for a guy who's never cracked 1000 yards and is a major lockerroom cancer.

The Raiders are nuts to let Porter sit on the bench every week while they pay his high salary. Does anyone have any idea what it would cost them if they traded him (accelerated bonus). Whether it's a 3rd rounder or better they should take the offer and move on. Art Shell and Al Davis are jokes.

The only people asking this question, and the only people who remotely care, are the ones who spent a high draft pick on him and just can't let it go.

The rest of us couldn't care less.

Not quite, I still believe Porter has the talent to be a solid #2/#3 FF option in the right environment, if he has his head in the right place. For the purposes of re-draft discussion, you are probably correct, as even if he is traded to the Steelers/Patriots/Vikings/etc...his impact this season would be minimal.

The main problem with the Porter situation, is that the Raiders are advertising a good player as if he was a great player.

Porter has had a few great games in his career, but has never shown to be a consistantly productive player.

If you're a problem like Moss, Owens, Keyshon, ect., teams will roll the dice, hoping that the greatness outweighs the distractions.

When you're a marginal talent, teams are much less likely to take that chance.

Speak for yourself. I'd like to know if there's any discussion about him going to another team. In a couple of leagues I'm in with limited roster space, Jerry Porter is sitting out on waivers. Once a solid trade rumor starts taking shape... I imagine he'll be snapped up pretty quickly.

Porter suspended, permitted to seek trade

Published Sat Oct 14 4:32:00 p.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Raiders head coach Art Shell has suspended Jerry Porter four games for conduct detrimental to the team.

Impact: The suspension will cost Porter at least $235,000 of the $1 million base salary he's due for 2006. Porter, who has been inactive for Oakland's first four contests, was granted permission to seek a trade by the team. The deadline for all deals to be consummated is October 17.
