That was:
A. A stupid throw by Josh
B. A great play by Coleman to high point that ball
C. Not a personal foul on the Jets
Allen has a lot of those this year, that would have absolutely been INTs last season. That's just random variance, but I think its interesting, as I don't think Allen has played any better this season than he did in any of 2020-2023. Its why the MVP talk is kinda wild to me. Lamar is having a historic season, and Allen is the same guy he's been for 5 years. Should Allen have won in one of the 2020-2023 seasons? Probably, but this year, no.
What exactly can you point to and tell me Lamar is aces over Allen? Jackson has 3900 yards and Allen has like 3800. Jackson has thrown two fewer INTs and might have a touchdown more, but really? It's not that cut-and-dried.
Those are the closest categories, and they still favor Lamar. Lamar currently has the 2nd highest passer rating IN NFL HISTORY. That's historically good and isn't even factoring in his 852 (likely to be 900+) rushing yards.
I'm not saying Allen isn't playing great, but I can't see a single reason why he'd be MVP over Lamar. He's doing nothing better. I think Allen is a better player overall, but for this season, Lamar is on another level from everyone. This arguably might be the best season in NFL history by a QB that Lamar is having. He's basically been prime Aaron Rodgers as a passer, while still being Lamar as a runner.
ETA: Lamar is leading the league in both yards per attempt as a passer and as a runner. That shouldn't even be possible, but he's doing it.
