Yes, I know my topic description is inviting some snarky "You're crazy" responses.
For all the talk of how good the 49ers defense looked in the first two games of the season, they've looked pretty bad most of the time since then.
Remember a couple weeks ago when a lot of pundits were saying the Saints' offensive problems were due to an inept offensive line? If the 49ers actually had a good defense, surely they should have been able to sack Brees a few times last week. But they didn't get a single sack. Not only that, Brees had by far his best game of the year against these 49ers.
Some food for thought I just read somewhere else... the composite QB rating against the 49ers D so far this year is 93. The QB's they've faced have an average total QB rating (for all of the games they've played) of 79.3. So basically, playing against the 49ers has inflated a QB's rating by some 17%.
Meanwhile, here's Joey Harrington -- not a great QB, but his QB rating this year is actually 80.9. Inflate that by 17% and you get an expected QB rating of 94.7 against the 49ers D this week.
What do you think? Will he be a solid injury/bye-week fill-in performer this week?
