Joey Harrington vs. SF Pass D (1 Viewer)

Yes, I know my topic description is inviting some snarky "You're crazy" responses. :goodposting:

For all the talk of how good the 49ers defense looked in the first two games of the season, they've looked pretty bad most of the time since then.

Remember a couple weeks ago when a lot of pundits were saying the Saints' offensive problems were due to an inept offensive line? If the 49ers actually had a good defense, surely they should have been able to sack Brees a few times last week. But they didn't get a single sack. Not only that, Brees had by far his best game of the year against these 49ers.

Some food for thought I just read somewhere else... the composite QB rating against the 49ers D so far this year is 93. The QB's they've faced have an average total QB rating (for all of the games they've played) of 79.3. So basically, playing against the 49ers has inflated a QB's rating by some 17%.

Meanwhile, here's Joey Harrington -- not a great QB, but his QB rating this year is actually 80.9. Inflate that by 17% and you get an expected QB rating of 94.7 against the 49ers D this week.

What do you think? Will he be a solid injury/bye-week fill-in performer this week?

not a bad analysis...but there are so many bad qbs these days, its hard to know which one might actually put up a decent week...rosenfels, mccown, quinn...so many

Harrington is a career clipboard holder. Smart guy, knows the playbook, looks great in practice, can't play worth a crap.

He had good games against Carolina and Houston (two teams that give up a lot of points to QBs), but also had bad games against the Vikings and Giants (two more teams that give up a lot points to QBs).

I wouldn't start him this week.

If you are going to give examples of bad QBs then at least include only QBs that have taken a snap during a regular season game.

I assume he was referring to current Jaguars QB Quinn Gray.Or maybe ex-Jaguars QB Jonathan Quinn.

I wouldn't start him over anyone worthwhile this week either, just because there's definitely some risk there that he'll stink up the joint.I'm just thinking that since: - He's actually been okay this year: His yards per pass attempt is the highest in his career. - He's facing what has been a pretty bad defense this weekend.... that he might surprise and put up a solid, QB10-15 game.

You're Crazy! :hot:

The composite QB raiting may be 93 but I wouldn't bank on Harrington producing much this weekend.

I think we all agree Harrington is a reach against any Defense in the NFL. The niners D has faced some very good QB's (Roethlisberger, Hasselbeck, McNair, Eli Manning, Breese) over the past 5 weeks and have faired quite well with the exception of Hasselbek in week 4 and Breese last week .

The Falcons offense is a disaster, there likely to be without Crumpler. IMO, Harrington is nothing more than a desperate bye week start against SF this weekend.

my fault, i meant quinn gray, and was inconsistent with using his first name instead of his last name, like i had done with the others...that being said - am i not right with the dearth of high quality qb talent?

As a homer, I had Campbell and Harrington to pick from to cover Eli's bye. I went Campbell. But if it hadn't been for the Jets, I probably would've gone Joey. I do think Joey's a decent option here and is a solid bet for 200 and 1-2 TDs, but there's also a good chance for 2 picks.
