Joey Porter says this one's in the bank

PITTSBURGH - It ain't easy being Peezy, particularly when your football team's 2-6.

Better make that 3-6. Peezy says this one's in the bank.

"This week is bigger than any other week. It's the second half of the season," said Steelers outside linebacker Joey Porter. "We're 2-6. It's time to make no more excuses, so I'm going to put some of the pressure on my shoulder for us to go out there and get this victory: We will come back with a victory on Sunday."

Porter, or "Peezy" as he's called by his coach and teammates, did what his coach nearly did on Tuesday: guarantee a win over the New Orleans Saints.

"We have to win a football game," coach Bill Cowher said at his weekly press conference. "I have a sense that we will do that."

Cowher immediately caught himself and said, "We are going to attempt to do that. I am not making any guarantees about anything. I learned that a while back."
This one's a little different than many guarantees, though. I don't think he's expressing disrespect for the Saints ... in fact, a read between the lines seems to indicate he's expecting a dogfight with a tough opponent. It's more of a Steelers-oriented guarantee, saying "we're good enough, dammit, and we have to get this one".

I fully expect the Steelers to deliver a beatdown on the Saints.

And I think the Steelers will win, too.

If he's guaranteeing a win, that must mean he's planning to injure Roethlisberger in practice this week so he can't play.

Who is the world thought that in Week 10 a Steeler would make the news by predicting a win over the Saints?

:goodposting: I am hoping this game conjures up momoents when the Dome Patrol stopped the Steelers on the 1yard line to secure the first winning season in Saints history. (Almost 20 years after their inception). That was an awesome moment.

What if the animal you cornered was a fluffy bunny?

Not all that scary now, is it?

But what if it's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on?You had better have a Holy Hand Grenade.

I don't remember the year/game/play -- some help?

Holy crap.

Are the Steelers really 'that team'? You know the ones that have to motivate themselves with guarentees?

How the mighty have fallen.... :(

Do these gauranteed victories even mean anything anymore..........I know they don't to me.

So he gaurantees it, big deal. There's about a 50 percent chance they will win on Sunday with or without his gaurantee.

The Steelers are a really stinky rabid capybara?

I have read that comment 7 times now, don't see the word guarantee in there anywhere.

Maybe he should have said, put it on my shoulders, we are gonna lose????

I compare this comment to the comment J. Stevens made before the Superbowl saying Jerome will be going home without a victory. It's not a guarantee (ala CJ). What NFL player says they are gonna lose the game.

And I saw the comment, the comment does not come off as a guarantee at all, just a player looking to win a game.

He doesn't say guarantee. But he says "We WILL come back with a win on Sunday". That's a guarantee.

I would say there's a much less than 50% cheance they win. They lost to the Raiders at HOME. Hard to talk tough after that.

That was my big problem with the "War of Words" between the two. Porter just needed something to mouth off about. Who goes to the SB and says they thin the other team will win?OTOH, after a loss to the Raiders at home more than one guy needs to put the team on his shoulders.
