Benched for Fuller, Yahoo seems to like Brown a bit more. However a grain of salt.
As I recall, Stanton wasn't terrible before he got hurt. Also, while the CW is usually that backup QB = checkdown artist, Stanton was the rare backup who actually threw a pretty good deep ball, which could benefit Brown more than others.True dat. Better place this hype train on blocks for now.
To remind people and put things into perspective, when Larry Fitzgerald was deciding on whether to sign another contract with AZ, he specifically held discussions with them regarding where things stood with Palmer before committing. This was coming off that stretch where Palmer was lost and they rouletted their way through a host of joke QBs. It was so bad, Fitz questioned whether he wanted to play (and earn millions) if Palmer wasn't there.
'nuff said.
Lol, okay. As long as you self-realize. I expect it to be brutal. As I recall, Stanton wasn't terrible before he got hurt. Also, while the CW is usually that backup QB = checkdown artist, Stanton was the rare backup who actually threw a pretty good deep ball, which could benefit Brown more than others.
And yes, now that you mention it, I am totally grasping at straws because I'm forced to start Brown tonight.
I agree, however I'm not thinking he's must start just yet. I grabbed him in free agency. (short bench) The biggest take-away is that he's got the #2 spot to himself. Floyd dropped pass didn't help him and Jaron Brown seemed to have passed him. I look forward to seeing how this plays out with Palmer. He's an every week start when Palmer's starting if he's playing the # of snaps he's played the last 2 weeks (64 snaps out of 68 tonight). Jaron Brown 31/Michael Floyd 23
If you started John Brown with Stanton starting, you've only got yourself to blame.
John Brown had a cyst removed from his spine in January.
Brown was slowed by sickle-cell issues for much of 2016, but was also bothered by the cyst, which was sapping his energy. "I was sleeping too much. I couldn’t eat right. My body just wasn’t in it," Brown said. "I couldn’t do anything, really. I was just drained out." Brown believes things are now back to normal. Excellent in 2014-15 before last year's disappointment, Brown is a major bounce-back candidate, especially with Michael Floyd no longer in the desert.

Speaking Tuesday, Carson Palmer said John Brown looks "stronger" and "more explosive" following his injury-marred 2016.
The Cardinals opened OTAs on Tuesday, and Brown said he feels far better now that doctors have found a way to control his sickle-cell issues that were bringing him down last season, in addition to removing a cyst from his spine. The cyst was sapping his energy, but Brown is now "feeling like myself." Being drafted as WR46 in MFL10s currently, Brown has massive upside there.

I am not an expert at all but there are players with sickle cell trait who are successful. Ty Montgomery, Tevin Coleman. If they can control his symptoms I don't see why not, but that's not a small if.Any REAL chance he can ever be 100% again with sickle-cell?
I agree with you. His 10 catch game last year was a glimpse of what he's capable of.8-10% of African Americans possess the sickle cell trait and the NFL is 70% AA which based on those numbers would put estimated amount of NFL players who have this trait around 5-7% if we assume 0% of the non African Americans have this trait. Even if you cut that in half to account for fact that the presence of this trait likely hampered athletic careers and percentage of African American NFL players with the sickle cell trait is half that of the normal population you would still have around 2.5-3% of NFL players who have this trait.
I can recall some players not being able to play in Denver, but I can't recall it ever ending anyone's career.
I'm not a doctor, things I may not be accounting for but I feel confident enough in his chances that I recently took him at 2.4 of a rookie draft in a league where he had been cut. He hit 1,000 yards on barely 100 targets his second year in the league and his career trajectory was on par with a player he is similar to in TY Hilton. Worth a shot to me and I actually have a fairly large degree of confidence it works out. I think he's going to be Arizona's #1 fantasy WR this season.
"Smoke" Brown ready to catch fireI agree with you. His 10 catch game last year was a glimpse of what he's capable of.
(Rotoworld) AzCardinals.com's Darren Urban believes John Brown "looks past his health concerns." Analysis: "He is blazing when he runs around out there," Urban observed. It's been a good offseason for Brown. He's declared himself healthy, literally lived with Carson Palmer and bulked up to 185 pounds. That's 12 pounds of muscle he didn't have last year. Brown has the talent to erase last season and pick up on his excellent 2015.
John Brown may miss up to a week with a quad injury.
He's day to day at this point, but it's a disappointing development after Brown shined throughout the spring and on the first few days of Cardinals camp. Entering his contract year after an illness-ruined 2016, Brown has battled persistent soft-tissue injuries since entering the pros. The Cardinals need to exercise utmost caution while working Brown back into practice.

Coach Bruce Arians admitted he is concerned about all of the practice time John Brown (quad) has missed in training camp.
"It's a concern, Arians said. "He's not available." Brown went down on July 28 with a quad strain almost as soon as camp opened and hasn't participated in team drills since. He's done some individual work over the past week, but Brown continues to fight soft-tissue injuries that ruined his 2016 season. At this point, it's impossible to be excited about Brown this season until he proves he can stay healthy.

Now I'm thinking of dropping J.J. Nelson for Brown.Coach Bruce Arians said Jaron Brown is the Cardinals' No. 2 receiver.
Arians added a "right now," but Brown has taken hold of the job while John Brown (quad) has been nursing a quad strain for the past three weeks. A fifth-year possession-type receiver, Brown hasn't gotten many opportunities, but he was pushing at the No. 2 gig last season when Michael Floyd was scuffling. Brown ended up tearing his ACL in October. He's been all systems go in camp.
Sucks...always liked Little John but with the sickle-cell trait and the soft tissue injuries he's become a high liability from a health standpoint.http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9649/john-brown
Both John Brown and coach Bruce Arians acknowledged Brown's sickle-cell trait is still an issue for Brown's health.
Brown has battled continued soft-tissue ailments, and says his sickle-cell trait slows the healing and recovery process. "That’s a fact," confirmed Arians. In such a violent sport where elite athletes are moving full speed, the ability to recover from injuries is absolutely critical for football-playing availability. Fantasy leaguers need to tread cautiously with Brown in drafts. Aug 16 - 8:27 PM

Actually, Arians really likes him. He's growing tired of him always being injured, but they have a great relationship. Carson really likes him too.Yeah he's basically just a lottery ticket at this point. It doesn't seem likely that he's going to stay healthy and productive for any length of time, and he seems to have an iffy relationship with Arians.
I'm sure he does, it seems hard not to like him, but Arians is all business and has flat out said that if he can't get and stay healthy they'll have to replace him. In the last week or so there seems to have been some back and forth between the two in the media.kutta said:Actually, Arians really likes him. He's probably worth a late round pick up because if he can get healthy, he'll be very good this year. Now that his price is dropping, he could be a great value pick.
Nelson caught 45% of his targets last year. I suppose there's a reason he's behind Jaron Brown now. He's an inconsistent guy with big play ability. Now I'm thinking of dropping J.J. Nelson for Brown.
Palmer called him a possible 70-80 catch guy but yeah, that just seems highly unlikely.Fantasy Fugazi @FF_Fugazi
31, 3, 32, 31, 21, 11, 22, 11, 11
This is Jaron Brown's rec totals per season since SR in HS. He'll be 28 this year.
I find this to be true of all players eventually.I'm sure he does, it seems hard not to like him, but Arians is all business and has flat out said that if he can't get and stay healthy they'll have to replace him. Nelson, to me, is the obvious slot target. He's listed at 160 lbs! With Chad Williams isn't close to playing as a rookie. Arians doesn't utilize the TE position. Jaron Brown seems like the beneficiary of any John Brown irrelevancy almost by default. I get that David Johnson is a terrific two way player but his utilization has limits.Nelson caught 45% of his targets last year. I suppose there's a reason he's behind Jaron Brown now. Here's a tweet about Jaron Brown however..

You can still sleep on Gresham (not sarcasm) but he'll probably see 90 targets this year. He caught on mid-season last year - after seeing like 20-30% of the snaps and a target a game up to week 5 his snaps jumped to 90% and he averaged something like 6 targets a game. He's not going to be relevant outside of deep leagues because he'll likely underwhelm on those targets, but it makes sense because of how depleted they were (Floyd sucked, both Browns hurt).Nelson, to me, is the obvious slot target. That was actually the week 3 rehearsal game that he had the 2 tds. I still like him. If he is healthy he will produce. Is Brown worth rostering at this point? He looked great in limited action during the final preseason game (2 td’s) but I noticed that he is listed behind Jaron Brown on the Cardinals week 1 depth chart.
Does anyone expect anything from him this season?
Agreed, he's a hold. The offense needs him bigtime.Suspect it's motivational play. Guy hasn't seen the field that much. He's close friends and practice buddies with Palmer, so he will get his!
