John Mayer - The Search for Everything (1 Viewer)

I don't really consider Motown as soul, that's really ignoring so much of what it was. Also, Motown's importance in terms of racial history and progress in America is unmatched.

You want pure soul, that's Aretha. Probably the best vocalist of the century. A little guy named Michael Jackson came up through here as well. He had a pretty big career. If he wasn't the biggest star of the 80s then it was only because he was outshined by another Detroit area star-Madonna.

Did rock mention Iggy and the Stooges who along with the MC5 helped lay the groundwork for punk and the garage rock sound of the aughts.
LOL at claiming Michael Jackson as Detroit.

Well my original thread about Mayer, where I said his was this generation's Clapton and every bit as good, was lost I guess in the purge, to make room for Trump and Tennis forum threads and IDP stuff.

But anyway, saw him tonight at Jones beach. What a show. He had various sets with the full band, acoustic, then with the trio, and then the full band. He is a phenom. I wasnt exaggerating when I called him this generation's Clapton. The guy played the doors off tonight. He could slay Clapton right now in an axe contest--and maybe even when both in their primes. He's that good.

Anyway, excellent show, I recommend seeing him if you have a chance.

I still love you.

Mayer's work with Dead and Co. the last couple years has been great.

Otis, highly recommend you peep one of those shows when they are in your area.  You get to see him slay w/o all the cheesey crap.

He did a little Dead tonight and it was awesome.

He's a better guitar player than Garcia ever was in his wildest dreams.

I'll give Mayer credit: he is a good musician who could have had a somewhat lucrative career by being a true artist and making serious music, but instead he has spent most of his career making music that appeals to girls and metrosexuals, while amassing an impressive list of women he has bedded.  It's hard not to be a little envious.

How many times did you see Jerry live? Pretty sure you are out on an island with that statement - even from Mayer himself.

Clapton is 72, for what it's worth.
