Johnny Damon Leaving RedSox (1 Viewer)

What really happened with Clemens was he was offered a joke of a contract, an insult (remember he was THE FACE OF THE ORGANIZATION) basically a no contract, contract (would be like your boss coming into the office when it's time for a raise and your salary is docked 25%, yes you are offered to stay but not really) so like any athlete no way are they going to stay after that insult which springboarded him into two in a row CY Youngs. Oh and their GM at the time said his best days were over, the same GB who Mo Vaughn got into heated arguments. Classy Boston way/.

Both, management for lame reasons gets rid of their star athletes while the fans who bitterly fought for them quickly turned on them. When one year Nomar is considered just as good or better than Jeter and their boy, the next he's a cancer and needs to leave. Same thing with Pedro, Roger Clemens, Mo Vaughn, Viniteri to name a few.We are talking about the face of their organization. It would be like the Yanks losing Jeter and Rivera or midway through Biggio and Bagwell's career, the Stros get rid of them.Won't be long until Papi and Manny are gone, just watch.
We ran Nomar out because of what he did against the Yankees in that game when Jeter showed balls of steel and Nomar acted like a little girl. For the record, I still love Nomar and wish him the best, but what he did was inexcusable.Everyone still loves Pedro. He's gone because we didn't match the foolish contract the Mets gave him. And now you see why we didn't.Clemens was a grade-A jerk. He signed the biggest contract in baseball history, then packed on a ton of weight and mailed it in. Not to mention nonsense like charging children money for his autograph at one point. We love Mo Vaughn and always will. But again, he got a foolish contract, and letting him go proved to be the wise thing to do.Vinatieri is a different matter, because unlike the Sox, the Patriots have a salary cap to consider. I didn't fault them for not giving him all that money at the time, and it would be unfair for me to now say that I wanted them to sign him all along. It's just too much for a kicker.I agree that Manny will be run out of town. He's gotten an undeserved bad rap from almost the moment he arrived. No Boston athlete of my lifetime has been less appreciated.I'd be amazed if Ortiz does not retire a Red Sox player.
Love the Clemens excuse.Oh and nice job on giving away Jeff Bagwell.Excuses, excuses. The point is Boston is nationally known to have their main stars leave their team while burning every possibly bridge in the process.Put Vinatieri on just about any other NFL team where he won two SB and I can promise you he would still be there. Brady will leave but the organization and fans by that point will say he really had little to do with them winning or some other crock of lies that you guys tell yourself to feel better.Remember, it was almost yesterday that NOMAH was just as good or better than Jeter...my how quickly he was run out of town.It will amaze me more if any current Boston player ends up retiring for them, not kicked out of their city and pissed off in the process.
Bagwell was not a star when he left. He was a minor leaguer.Nomar was as good if not better than Jeter. Then he kept getting hurt. And he started to cry alot.Clemens had some disappointing years before he left. Nobody expected him to be this good for this long.Mo Vaughn was fat and out of shape.Pedro may be out for the season next year.Vinatieri is a kicker. The Celtics held on to McHale, Parrish, Bird. How did that work out?Loyalty to aging veterans is a sure fire way to suck for many years.

you've got to know your minor league studs, if the Astros traded for him....seriously, done with the excuses here but no other organization that's this well known seems to piss off their star athletes more than the city of Boston. If their kicker who won two SB for them can't get top notch salary at his position (nobody else should get paid more than him at K position) then that's laughable.Clemens wasn't old and again, they offered him a low ball BS contract but he's the bad guy. :lmao:

Yea, nuts that you can't name Vin won them multiple SB then couldn't fork over enough money to keep him. Good times.
Of course they could have. It was a salary cap consideration. Are you going to just pay a kicker as much as he asks for, no matter how much, because of what he's done in the past, when he's already possibly past his prime? That would be poor salary cap management. The Patriots set a value for him, Vinaitieri wanted more than that, and they decided to move on. That's how football works these days, in case you hadn't noticed. And I'm glad you think it's "good times." Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed all of Vinatieri's big kicks.

Love the Clemens excuse.
Clemens signed a huge contract, then put on a ton of weight and mailed it in. Would you reward him with a new contract after that, or are you denying that any of that ever happened?
Oh and nice job on giving away Jeff Bagwell.
What does Jeff Bagwell have to do with this conversation? You think he was a star when he left?
Excuses, excuses. The point is Boston is nationally known to have their main stars leave their team while burning every possibly bridge in the process.

Put Vinatieri on just about any other NFL team where he won two SB and I can promise you he would still be there.
Yeah, well who knows how to win Super Bowls more, the Patriots or "just about any other NFL team?"
Brady will leave but the organization and fans by that point will say he really had little to do with them winning or some other crock of lies that you guys tell yourself to feel better.
Why would Brady leave the organization? We just signed him to a longterm deal. With all the superstars we have here in Boston, we sure can't keep them all, but we'll certainly keep Brady.
Remember, it was almost yesterday that NOMAH was just as good or better than Jeter...my how quickly he was run out of town.
Would you want him on your team if he did what he did against the Yankees that final season here? And yes, he was better than Jeter back then when he was in his prime.
It will amaze me more if any current Boston player ends up retiring for them, not kicked out of their city and pissed off in the process.
It will amaze me if you say something that isn't dripping with jealousy and bitterness over Boston's recent run of success in sports.

Thank you for proving my point. This is exactly what I said above. If Clemens hadn't been insulted by the Red Sox, he never would have gone on to have the success he had. You just admitted it yourself. :own3d:

:lmao: Clemens was a stud with Boston and after, nobody was shocked to see this except for Sox fans. Stings, don't it?

If no one else was shocked, why was a team like Toronto the high bidder? Why didn't the Yankees just pony up the cash? It would have been the ultimate revenge for Clemens (you yourself said he was driven by his desire for get revenge on the Sox), a slap in the face from the Yankees to the Sox, and the stud you claimed everyone else saw coming at the top of their rotation.Does it sting? No, it doesn't. Clemens made a jerk of himself in Boston long before he even left. And if Clemens had been re-signed, there likely would not have been enough room in the Red Sox budget to bring in Pedro Martinez and sign him to a new contract once they traded for him. Pedro went on to become one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball history, and the Sox went on to win the World Series. Things worked out just fine for us, thank you very much.

Funny that was all you had to say about every point I just made against the tomfoolery coming out of your mouth.
