was going to start the same topicWhat happen to McGraw, ended up with 1A and watch part of the game and didn't see him on the field. Any news?
Was it just for this game and do you see this happening again int he future? Should we be worried? The Chiefs changed up their passing down subpackages against the Chargers, using a 2-4-5 with Jovan Belcher in the box instead of McGraw in the nickel OLB role. McGraw also missed a bunch of snaps with a bruised knee.
Belcher had been a nickel backer in the past, and it's possible that it took a game or two to adjust to the loss of Berry in that hybrid LB role. I don't think there was anything specific about the SD matchup that made a 2-4-5 more attractive than a 4-1-6 alignment. It's possible that it was a schematic change to allow Johnson and Hali better pass rush angles, but that's something that would carry over, too.Worried? I'm not as excited about McGraw as I was this time two weeks ago, but I think there's still value in the KC safety spot. Was it just for this game and do you see this happening again int he future? Value in the sense that he's still a starting safety in a target rich environment, but no longer necessarily playing that in-the-box OLB position in sub-packages? Safe to say that he's back down in the range of a Kenny Phillips or Charles Godfrey (i.e., other safeties in target rich environments) at this point?Belcher had been a nickel backer in the past, and it's possible that it took a game or two to adjust to the loss of Berry in that hybrid LB role. I did the same thing...lol. I guess Fantasy IDP rule no 38. Never sit Buf Safeties...Thanks for the good info. To bad for me, I started McGraw instead of Wilson (Buff) Oh well there is always next week
Value in the sense that there'll be enough opportunity to support a DB2 level of production. Without the nickel OLB role, that KC safety spot was still 6-2, FF last week. I want to see more of the Carolina back seven with Godfrey (hopefully) back this week, but I'd default to McGraw/Godfrey > Phillips for now.Value in the sense that he's still a starting safety in a target rich environment, but no longer necessarily playing that in-the-box OLB position in sub-packages? I was just going to ask the same question .............Where does Donald Washington fit in all this? Were his numbers just a fluke?
Where do Donald Washington and Glover Quin fit in this picture?Value in the sense that there'll be enough opportunity to support a DB2 level of production. Here's what I wrote for this week's Reading the Defense.Where does Donald Washington fit in this picture?
Jovan Belcher (8-2) / Jon McGraw (0-1) / Donald Washington (6-1, FF)The Chiefs changed their nickel personnel and alignment against San Diego. During the first two games, they’d used a 4-2-5 package, with the SS sliding down into an OLB role. That’s the role that helped McGraw off to a hot start. That ended this week, as the Chiefs went with a 2-4-5 alignment at times and used Jovan Belcher (who’s been a nickel subspecialist in the past) and Derrick Johnson as the two ILBs. There could be lots of reasons for this – the Chiefs don’t want Sabby Piscitelli in deep coverage, may prefer a stouter linebacker to defend the run from a six man front, or may feel more comfortable with Tamba Hali in a two point stance and Johnson as a blitzer with Belcher behind. Whatever the reason, it could be very good news for Belcher, who would become an every-down player if they use it more often. It’s not terrible news for the Chiefs’ SS either, as there should be more than enough opportunity to go around. McGraw missed much of last week’s game with a bruised knee, but Washington filled up the boxscore in his absence. Early reports suggested that McGraw’s injury was minor, but be ready to slip Washington on your roster if it turns out to be more.
