Since we are hitting Dwyer in two threads,
I have to step in and say a few things in defense of Dwyer. I think a lot of people are ignorantly discounting the impact Dwyer may have if he gets a change to see significant playing time.
People like to try to look smart by pointing to Dwyers underwhelming first crack at a starting gig without knowing the details.
I had Dwyer as an emergency guy back when he got the shot to start for the Steelers. There were constant cracks about his weight and really terrible conditioning and how he could not finish a NFL game. There are a couple of things to remember Dwyer was twenty two back then, that is pretty young for a NFL player and he was a project pressed into service. That was also the lockout year and he missed the off season and conditioning programs.
I had not see Dwyer for a long time and then he shows up on my hometown Cardinals so yeah I am watching 4th quarter Cardinals action. The announcer said the back was Dwyer who I didn't even know was on the Cards. He looks NOTHING like he looked 2 years ago, I couldn't believe it was the same guy. He seems toned, in shape and is running much harder that before. He flew up the depth chart here in AZ and rightfully so.
Arians went out and got a player he knew from Pitts despite his "bad" initial starting gig, he is running HARD, he moved up to two on the depth chart with easy and Taylor has looked pretty wretched this pre season. Coach Arians is on the radio here for a weekly spot, it is always Ellington and Dwyer, I don't remember him ever even mentioning Taylor.
People are dismissing Dwyer but this is most likely a case where past results do not predict future performance. Even if Ellington plays you are going to see heavy heavy doses of Dwyer.
This is not the Johnathan Dwyer you remember.
