Julio Jones Injury Update: Falcons WR Misses Wednesday PracticeOct195:44p

by David ***illoREAD MORE: nfl injury report, falcons injury report, julio jones injury, Harry Douglas (WR - ATL),Julio Jones (WR - ATL), Atlanta FalconsAtlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones missed Wednesday's practice as he continues to try and rehabilitate his injured hamstring. Jones injured the hamstring late in the third quarter of the Falcons loss to the Packers in week five and missed the entire week of practice in week six. A continued absence from practice already this week would indicate he is likely to be no better than a game-time decision on Sunday against the Lions.Without Jones in the lineup against the Falcons, the Falcons spread the ball around quite liberally with no receiver catching more than three passes. Tony Gonzalez led the team with three receptions, while Harry Douglas led the team with 57 yards. Ovie Mughelli had the only touchdown reception. For fantasy purposes, Harry Douglas could prove to be a decent pass catching option in bye weeks. The Falcons have a bye in week eight so he would be a very limited option. For now you will simply have to sit on Julio Jones for another couple weeks. Given the upcoming week eight bye, he should be good to go by the time week nine rolls around. For more on the Falcons, check out The Falcoholic. For more on fantasy football, check out Fake Teams. Bye week issues have me praying for Julio to be a quick healer. It's either him or D. Moore this weekend. If I get a zero, I have to live with so many good options on the waiver wire. Long term, I'd much rather have these guys in the fantasy playoffs. It's one of those weeks where you have to suck it up to protect your guys even if it risks taking a loss.

I don't see Atlanta rushing him back when they have a bye week after this. The game plan is going to be to try and pound Turner, max protect a few times to launch a couple long balls to Roddy White.

Exactly.. it makes absolutely no sense to even play him this week.. when they have an added week for him to heal coming up...

Is it not an important week? It's not like Lions are a cupcake team they can beat easily without him. do they really want to fall 2 games behind New Orleans for a wildcard spot, not to mention what could end up being head-to-head tie breaker with Detroit for a Wildcard/seed?

No one is saying it's not an important week and I wasn't spinning it in terms of FF. But to address what you're saying, even if he were to play he is going to be largely ineffective knowing that they probably should sit him out and give him a full 3 weeks to heal. Plus he's a rookie and they have a lot invested in him. If he were to go back out there this week he has a higher risk of further injury, maybe even a tear which could derail him for the season so it's not very smart if they do play him.

have you seen his CT scan or MRI? How do you know they aren't just taking it easy with him early this week to allow him to heal? Didn't most reports conclude it was a pretty minor strain?

Except for the fact that they may want to try and win the game of course.

Can you explain the angle here LC? I own JJ in multiple leagues and I wouldn't play him one week removed form being OUT due to a hammy. In my experience rarely does a guy come back a week after being declared OUT and do well. And that goes for injuries across the board not just hammy issues. Minor strain? He left in the GB game IIRC when the team needed him the most. Back to my original question. Are we talking FF, NFL, or both? I don't really understand why you bring up whether or not I'm on the ATL medical staff. I'm also not the team chaplain on Sunday mornings either :)

This is the most conservative coaching staff in the league. I see no way they play Julio before the BYE...even in what appears to be close to a must win situation, unless they want to have a big uphill battle.

I tend to think they pound the ball with Turner and Snelling getting in on the action too. I actually like Atlanta to win. Also the Lions if they can't run become pretty 1 dimensional.
