Is he a TE1, a top 10, top 5, or a crapshoot, maybe not this week but week 6 on? BTW I'm in a 14 man league so me TE1 standards are looser than some. Does Jackonville just kill his value? Or does he increase the value of other Jax players?
I don't think anyone can know any more than when he signed in March. I drafted him, and have Rudolph as well, but will probably start Thomas once he's healthy.
He can have a good week with one catch, he could be a TE version of DeSean Jackson. He could also be a target monster for Bortles. Or Bortles could drag him down.
I was never expecting Denver numbers, and drafted him at a pretty big discount in August. Beyond maybe three or four TEs, I like his chances as much as anyone other TE to have a big week.
First thing is I don't know his health status. I assumed after the surgery and he was ready to play he would be 100% once he got cleared. I mean it's a finger tendon, nothing that should curtail his conditioning. But then I read an article this past week where he talked about removing the cast but will wear some kind of device on his hand instead and he kept talking about he has to learn to play with this device and see how it goes. I found it all a little less than encouraging as I was counting on him being 100%, not learning how to play with something on his hand.
But if his hand is ok and if the device does not limit him I think he'll catch more passes and put up more yards then he did in Denver but with less TD's.
I'm not as worried about leaving Denver as most people. I think we see the same thing that occurred with Vincent Jackson leaving San Diego. In SD VJAX played with a great QB and had some solid fantasy seasons but was never highly targeted. When he went to Tampa he played with an inferior QB but got targeted more frequently and went on to have his best fantasy seasons.
I think if Julius hand is not an issue we see the same thing that went down with VJAX. More targets, more fantasy points.
If he can stay healthy, I like him as a top 5 the going forward. The volume, and rz targets, should be there with a team that will be playing catch up a lot.
