justin blackmon (2 Viewers)

I hope he can continue being a STUD. I know teams will gameplan around stoping just him and I hope he's good enough to over come that. Anyone think he's a fluke?

I have a stable of WR and I will hold out to see how the next few weeks play out. The is no fluke he's a stud, he did it at the college level and now is showing all the doubter his athletic capabilities. It's just a matter of how he'll handle double coverage and being the number #1 target.

As Tex mentioned, what we're seeing in the NFL is an extension of what we saw in college. Remember that Blackmon was a marked man for his last year at Oklahoma State and he still absolutely dominated. He's an interesting guy because on paper he's a good, but not WOW caliber athlete. Yet you flip on the NCAA highlights and he just looks like a monster. Absolutely passes the eyeball test and seems to play much greater than the sum of his parts would lead you to expect.

I'm a believer. Remember that this isn't just a two game abberation. He was a top 10 FF WR in the second half of the 2012 season. Started the season in dismal form before turning it on in a major way when Henne took the reins.

Not on this site necessarily but people seem very slow to come around to the fact that this guy is a legit WR1 every week starter in fantasy. If people didn't think so before, surely the last 2 weeks have removed any doubt.

While I do not see him consistently scoring anywhere close to what he has the past two weeks, no, this is absolutely NOT a fluke. He was really good for a large chunk of the 2nd half of last season,

Who knows what will happen when he runs into a great defense, or is blanketed by a great corner. Probably the same thing that happens to everyone else.....he will score less than his average.

his schedule is not very appealing.

after the chargers he has 7 of his final 9 games against top 10 pass defenses. two against no. 1 houston. no. 2 49ers in 2 weeks. guess that will be the first litmus test.

While I certainly hope that's the case as I've got him on all my important teams, it is not a certainty yet. If you could guarantee me that Gabbert won't see the lineup again, then I'd feel a lot more comfortable about it, but so far he's only played 2 games and has had the benefit of a nice break in the first game and 20 targets in the second game.

Last year Calvin Johnson got 204 targets, or 12.75 per game. And that was with Stafford setting an NFL record in pass attempts. I guess we'll see how things pan out with Henne and the targets. While I'm cautiously optimistic, I think calling him a legit WR1 every week starter might be a bit too optimistic in this offense. But I guess we'll see. His breakaway speed in week 5 was very impressive/unexpected.

His highlight package last year tells you all you need to know. He's a flat out beast with the catch and run, and I wouldn't worry about matchups or defensive attention at all with him.

Yeah, he was dominating once Cecil was out and the defense was focusing solely on him.

14 catchs 190 yards. That's just ridiculous. The guy had 258 yards in one game last year! You almost think he has to have a bad game eventually, but with the way they feed him 10+ targets a game that's almost a moot point.

I didn't realize it was just practice. Back in the lineup... Sort of. We have a rule for home field advantage. Each home team can pair two players at the same position. Whichever scores more, is put in the lineup. Going to start Marshall, Blackmon and Green and pair Shorts with Green.
very interesting. Is there a website that automatically scores this?
No, the commish does it manually via MFL. It's only 5 teams each week as we are a 10 team league.

He definitely gets a bump from me when Henne is starting. The uncertainty of the QB position for the rest of the season would be the only thing that might give me pause about him.

He could have even had a bigger day had a 6 yard td go right off his face.... he was shooting for 200 and 1 with 15 catches

And the guy has Henne throwing to him for now and Henne tends to pick a guy and force it in to him. He did that all day yesterday with Blackmon or at least tried to. He forced a ton of tight throws when Blackmon was blanketed.

I'd say the bump with Henne takes him from a mid to low WR 2 to WR 1/2. With Gabbert he's still providing a ton of ADP value, but he's not the absolute stud that he is with Henne.

What I'm saying, is that the drop to Gabbert isn't enough to give me pause about him. He's still a great play with either QB.

Blackmon is a top 15 WR going forward, and has top 5 WR potential if he can find the endzone on a regular basis.

He's a lock for 10+ targets, so a game like 5/60/0 is his floor. We've seen that his ceiling is through the roof. Henne loves to throw to him and JAX will be behind most of the year.

He will be on a lot of championship teams this year.

Something clicked for him in that Houston game last year. Since then he has looked like the elite talent he is. Only thing that can stop him now is the bottle.

Justin has made a huge impact on several wins the last two weeks for me. Thinking of renaming my team "I Love Blackmon"

You mean the ball that was badly thrown behind him? That was in no way right off his face.

He had two redzone targets on that same drive (I think). The latter was badly behind him (Henne threw it on the run when Blackmon flashed in front of him). The first one was a slant, and Henne led him right into the safety. Blackmon shortarmed it. The ball might have careened off his facemask as he was cringing. The slant was money all day, but it's tougher to run it inside the 10 where the field is compressed.

On another drive, Henne threw what would have been a TD pass (on another slant) to Blackmon, but it was batted down at the line. In a perfect world, Henne would have led him properly on the one, the RT would have cut the DE on the other: 220 & 2TD

fwiw - One of MJD's TDs was all about Blackmon. Nacho was sitting under the slant, totally oblivious to MJD running right at him (Fouts exclaimed, "What was he doing!?" on the replay.)

I understand the logic, but I think what Blackmon has going for him is this - he will see a ton of prevent defenses in the 4th quarter of games moving forward...especially against the teams with a good defense. So, he may have 3-5 catches for 50-65 yards going into the last 10 minutes of the game...but in the end he produces 8-10 grabs for close to a 100 yards.

Justin Blackmon - WR - Jaguars

Justin Blackmon suffered a groin/hamstring injury in Sunday's loss to Denver and will be held out of practice Wednesday.

We're not surprised Blackmon emerged from his second NFL game since December 2012 a bit sore after essentially serving as the Jags' entire Week 6 offense. He handled a heavy workload, securing 14 balls for 190 yards and repeatedly getting the better of Champ Bailey. The missed Wednesday practice appears to be pre-planned, and Blackmon should resume participating by Thursday or Friday.
Hopefully this is no big deal.

blackmon is def a wr1 and has Ajgreen talent. Love the fact henne locks on to him and forces him balll... 20 targets is ridiculous.... Shorts will be sidelined for a few so Blackmon should be absolute Beast vs San Diego's weak pass d next week.

No I mean the ball that hit him in the face... He had one there by the Goalline at end of game very end he could have caught... not knocking guy he is a stud just saying he was one little tight squeeze from a 40 + banger.

In redraft, thinking about who you would trade Blackmon s/u for, what's your list? Assuming ppr.

CJ

AJ

D.Thomas

Dez

B-Marsh

After that I think you are into a serious debate. I just think we've seen Blackmon's upside starting end of last year and no one else on the list IMO approaches it.

Those are the only 5 I would consider. The guy can beat double/triple coverage, his QB will throw it to him in those situations, and garbage time is 30 minutes for The Jaguars.

redraft I offered 2 trades to the Blackmon owner(who is starting Myers at TE):

I give: WR Edelman & TE J Thomas

I get: WR Blackmon & TE B Myers

I give: WR Edelman & TE T Gonzo

I get: WR Blackmon & TE B Myers

haven't heard back yet, are my offers fair in everyone's opinion?

I would consider your first offer but not a chance on the 2nd offer.

Jordy is up there for sure.

I patch together a TE by committee and hold on Blackmon, which is not what you want to hear.

I would probably agree, because Thomas is just not quite consistent enough yet. It would probably depend on who he has as his other WR, but I'd rather have Blackmon and Myers.

offered Roddy White for him. im beginning to think thats an insult, but you never know how people value different players. hopefully he's in the fluke/Jags suck group

White is practically waiver wire material and Blackmon is likely a top 10 stud. I guess it doesn't hurt to throw out the offer but no chance it gets accepted. This is also the worst possible time to attempt to buy Blackmon

I'm happy to own Blackmon but I'm having difficulty getting on the hype train just yet. Seems like a lot of things have to break right for him to continue this level of production.

First of all, obviously Henne needs to remain the starter. Not that he's a stud or even close, but Gabbert is freaking awful and kills much of Blackmon's value. We know the idiots in Jacksonville were giving Gabbert chance after chance even after it was clear he sucks. And even now, they aren't committing to Henne going forward, at least verbally. Are they ready to bail on Gabbert and admit he was a wasted first round pick?

Next, there is the fact that he is clearly the most potent offensive weapon they have, by a wide margin. Without Shorts in the lineup especially, I would expect DCs to TRIPLE team Blackmon and let anyone else try to beat them. With that kind of attention, the better defenses should be able to shut him down to an extent. There are some very good secondaries on the schedule following the Jags' bye week.

And lastly there is simply the concern I have about a guy continuing to get this many targets, being blanketed constantly and the free shots defenders will be taking in the middle of the field (where he thrives). I watched the Denver game and it's hard for me to envision this guy being their whole offense for an extended period without really getting banged up along the way.

I'm starting to consider selling high.

Defenses are going to adjust to him. He was given a free pass for a couple games since teams didn't know what to make of him after the suspension, but I have to think he's going to get shut down by any decent defense. It's not like they need to play the run.

I own him in several re-drafts this year and am heavily considering packaging him with a low RB2/TE1 for a definite top WR like Demaryious/Marshall/etc. and see if I get any bites.

This seems like the definition of the perfect sell-high point for a player. QB play can only go down if they bring back Gabbert for some ungodly reason, the pass defense schedule looks middle of the road to terrible for the rest of the season, and defenses are going to adjust to take away the Jags only real offensive threat this season.

Did you people even watch the Broncos game??? He was doubled team for most of that game and he also was being covered by Champ Bailey. He had 14 Catches!!! I'm pretty sure Denver did what they could to stop him and they could not. Is he going to put up double digit catches every week...no. But he is going to be playing on a team that will be playing from behind and as long as he is healthy he will be a top 10 play every week. What more can you ask for from a guy most people paid a small price for.

The Broncos D is getting torched every week, and Champ is 35 and I would argue, no longer elite. Some of the best secondaries in the league remain on the schedule, particularly Tennessee twice (including week 16), 49ers, Houston twice (including week 14), and Cleveland.

Exactly. He made one of the best corners of all time (granted CB not 100%) look foolish most of the day. Don't understand why those that were savvy enough to draft him or trade for him would now consider trading high. Ride him to a title!
