Keeper league question. (1 Viewer)

Hey guys...

Not sure if this is Shark Tank/Assnt. Coach material but I had a question about keeper leagues.

Last year was our first year with a keeper format from redraft where we kept ONE player from the prior year. Going into this years draft, I DON'T want to keep any of my players. So how does that usually work? I assume that everyone who DOES keep a player gives up their first round pick, while people who decide not to can draft from the available player pool in the first round.

Is that not right?

Thanks!

Ask your commish. If there aren't clear rules written up, there should be. Every league could handle this differently. If nothing is in the rules, I'd just assume you don't keep a player and nothing else happens. I certainly would NOT assume that you get an extra pick before anyone else in the league drafts. If so, there would probably be more owners throwing their keepers back.

Thanks for the response.

I wouldn't be getting an "extra" pick. While other teams forfeit a first round pick to keep their player of choice, why wouldn't the teams with no keepers be entitled to what is left in the available draft pool?

Right?

Help guys...

Many leagues do it differently. Some force every owner to keep 1 player no matter how terrible your roster is.

If you are allowed to throw a guy back then usually you get to pick from the pool. Draft order would be important to know because you may get the 5th best player if 5 teams throw back. There are other league specific rules that might need to be considered but from what I know you draft from the throwbacks.

This... Part of the challenge of keeper leagues is roster building, why should a team that has failed to establish even one keeper caliber player have the right to pick from the full pool of available players?

Not sure why everyone equates keeping a player to forfeiting a draft pick.
