Kerry Collins signs w/ Titans Thread (1 Viewer)

<still waiting for someone to detail how Collins is even the slightest upgrade from Volek...>
Is he an upgrade? Probably not. But here's what he DOES have over Volek:- he's led a team to a Super Bowl

- he's played in multiple playoff games

- he's played in a Pro Bowl

- he's started 145 games in his career (135 more than Volek)

Like I said, he's probably not an upgrade over Volek. But he is an upgrade over Vince Young. Collins is insurance against Volek getting injured.

seriously people, volek? he;s a career backup. he went undrafted in my 22 round dynasty draft. him & the abortions that are the bear's & buffalo's qb situations were the only starting qb's not picked.collins is a bum, but he's an upgrade over volek.
Please extend my appologies to whoever drafted Charlie Frye
 frye was drafted in the 3rd round, & is taking over the starting role his 2nd year.volek was undrafted & has been a backup for 4 years he is now starting due to mcnair leaving suddenly. there is no way volek even sniffs the starting job if mcnair is still there.

You just described Chris Chandler in 2002... ;)

Or Kerry Collins in 2004.

just saw on the ticker on NFL network that this signing is official.

Here was the most recent article I could find online:

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - A month after trading Steve McNair, the Tennessee Titans apparently felt the need to sign a veteran quarterback.

ESPN.com is reporting that the Titans have reached an agreement in principle with Kerry Collins, who was waived by the Oakland Raiders in March for salary cap purposes.

The reported move comes four days before the Titans play their final preseason game at Green Bay.

Billy Volek, a backup for his six-year career in Tennessee, took over as the starter after McNair was traded to Baltimore last month. But his shaky play in the preseason concerned coach Jeff Fisher and offensive coordinator Norm Chow enough for the Titans to make inquiries about Collins.

Volek, 30, is 3-7 in 10 career starts with Tennessee. In 2004, he posted consecutive 400-yard passing games.

But in the preseason, Volek has failed to pass for any touchdowns as the Titans have lost all three of their games.

Tennessee selected Texas quarterback Vince Young with the third overall pick in the 2006 draft, but are still grooming him for the starting job. In the preseason, Young has completed 21-of-40 passes for 277 yards with one interception.

Collins, 33, was inconsistent last season, completing just 53.5 percent (302-of-565) of his passes for 3,759 yards and 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in 15 games. The Raiders finished last in the AFC West with a 4-12 record.

The fifth overall pick by Carolina in the 1995 draft, Collins spent his first three seasons with the Panthers and another with New Orleans before signing with the New York Giants.

Collins overcame alcohol problems and guided the Giants to the Super Bowl in 2000. He has thrown for 33,637 yards and 173 touchdowns with 166 interceptions in 152 career games.

McNair, 33, led the Titans to the first Super Bowl in franchise history in 2000 and compiled a record of 81-59 as a starter. But his high salary cap number and health issues forced the Titans to unload him.

At what point will Collins will get the start? And what point will he get benched for V Young?
Young won't play this year. At least not start. He might get some garbage time play. Collins by week 3 unless Volek is lights out good.

See how Chandler's career finished out if you want to see my prediction on how this is going to go for Collins...Colin
Colin, he went to the bears, where QBs go to die. Collins did decent fantasy-wise. The only people this should really concern are Titans fans, Volek's dynasty owners, and people in two QB leagues looking for a bye-week fill-in that wasn't there before.

Exactly why I am here looking for group-therapy...
