Kevan Barlow: "You Don't Trade A Guy Like Me" (1 Viewer)

To quote from "Top Gun" his ego is writing checks his body can't cash.

From RotoWorld:

Kevan Barlow unleashed some harsh criticism for former coach Mike Nolan Tuesday.

"Nolan just doesn't know what he's doing. He's a first-time head coach with too much power," Barlow said. "He walks around with a chip on his shoulder, like he's a dictator, like he's Hitler. People are scared of him." Perhaps the most delusional comments Barlow made were about himself, "I'm still in my prime. You don't trade a guy like me."

As a Jets fan, I'm going to find it difficult to root for this guy.

ETA: especially after having the joy of watching Curtis for so long.

Yeah, no one trades a guy with all those pro bowl appearances and all those double digit TD seasons.....Oh.....wait......This guy is a tool. If Portis can be traded Barlow can be traded. If Marshall Faulk can be traded this guy can be traded.

LOSER... should cut a guy like him. When do you trade a player? When his career is over?Let's see him play a whole season & be productive. I highly doubt it. He's not even worthy to hold the box that holds CuMar's jock.

LOL, not in the rotoworld excerpt is the part where Barlow apologized and acknowledged that he was just speaking out of emotion. Either way, I'm a fan of his, but he really should just shut his mouth and perform on the field. He'll have a much better opportunity in NY this year than he had in SF the last two, that's for sure.

I thought he was talking about the fact that most teams don't want a guy like Barlow on their team, and that is why they don't get traded.

Hey, at least Barlow has a 1,000 yard rushing season under his belt. What has Nolan done but run the most talented players on the team out of town?

I do not like Barlow but this is a true statement. The niners are getting rid of their best players one at a time.

What are all you guys going to be saying if he pulls a 1200 and 10 season out of his ace?
With the JETS? C'mon. There's only one RB on that team that has the ability and he has a bum knee.Won't happen... Barlow won't even make thru game 8 before he has a hang nail & ends up on IR.

LMAO.

My money says Blaylock beats him outright for the job. Barlow is a stiff. I really thought he had a shot to turn it around with Turner coming in. But he is just a bum , all talk, no action. Gore is a great kid and a fighter. I hope he can hold up to the NFL pounding, becuase he couldn't even do that at the college level.

Anyway Barlow will be a bust again for another team. Buyer beware.

Barlow would be wise to remember next time that 99% of the time, as soon as you start comparing people to Hitler and the Nazis you've already lost your argument.

How can you not love Kevan Barlow? Seriously, ever since Freddie Mitchell managed to become unemployed in the middle of his "prime", Barlow is all we have left...

Colin

Yes, Barlow looks like a fool for making comments like these (and it should be noted that he did in fact apologize later)... but does anyone really doubt the veracity of his claims?

Odds are, Mike Nolan is going to suck as a head coach.

As a Niner fan, I choose to view it as getting rid of players who do't want to to be in SF and don't have the attitudes that represent where the Niners want to go. We all know that they are one of the least talented teams in the league right now, they are building from the bottom up. I personally don't care if Barlow does have slightly more physical talent than Gore - his comments only highlight the kind of man and teammate that he is -Don't let the door hit you in the ### on your way out the door Kevan. Good ridance.

Does Barlow understand what he's getting himself into in NY?Mangini, from all accounts, may be WORSE.Good luck.

"Yeah. Yeah. It was definitely puzzling to me," he said of San Francisco's decision to let him go in exchange for a fourth-round pick in next year's draft. "I mean, I'm shocked. "They traded Kevan Barlow.' That's what I was thinking. I didn't know what was going on. I'm going to start a clean slate out here. I'm going to put it all behind me. It's a way to start fresh."

Once you start speaking about yourself in the third person, the LOSER tag comes out.

Hey now, DoubleG thinks it's okay when DoubleG needs to make an important point. The need for DoubleG to refer to DoubleG as "DoubleG" instead of as "self" is sometimes necessary to drive DoubleG's important point home.

He should definitely shut up and Play But, I also think Mike Nolan is a horrible coach - I was praying this guy went to Miami instead of Saban.

Barlow reminds me a lot of Travis Henry. His best days are looooooooong gone. He'll be lucky to put up 800/4.
Ummm, I'll take the over. By a good bit, too.
Future Hall of Famer and 4th all-time leading rusher Curtis Martin put up 750 and 5 TDs last year, but Barlow can do better? :lmao:Kevan Barlow's BEST year (which was 3 years ago  ...) was only 1000 and 6. Now simply because he has new logo on his helmet, he'll suddenly transform into the back we've been waiting for? What are your predictions on numbers?

could it be this trade is just what he needed!? that SF franchise has been in the dumps for years..is Nolan really a good coach?! I'd want to get out of SF too, If I played for Mike Nolan..the change of scenery could do wonders for Barlow and the Jets...you never know, right?he could be a bust, but we already know that..or, he could surprise us..here's hoping they've found their #1 RB in Barlow..that would help the Jets tremendously

You can't deny that Barlow has talent. I mean the guy rushed for over 1000 yards on 201 carries. That's pretty impressive.

I would have prefered if Barlow said it was a good idea trading me, I'm not very good.

best thread ever

IN before the Otis reference.

Umm, yeah... 3 years ago when the team still have Garcia, Hearst, Beasly and TO.Barlow would be best served to just worry about earning the starting job in NY. Not why he lost the job in SF.

My favorite part was him ripping Nolan for not understanding the "49er way".

"He doesn't know about the 49ers way, and that's too bad because even his dad was coach of the 49ers. Bill Walsh set the standard there, and he ain't living up to it."
Like Barlow understands the 49er way....J

Switz thinks talking about yourself in the third person is really all that's involved in making switz all that he is, and switzs knows what switz is talking about, and that's all that switz cares to share on this topic.Seriously, enough about me, what do you think of me? :lmao:

Martin was banged up, playing behind a poor and injured OL, and the QB situation was a mess. He also only managed 220 carries, and I expect Barlow to have more than that. I expect Barlow to be healthy, and the OL and QB situations are much, much better this year. Not fantastic, but better than the '05 Jets and MUCH better than the '04 or '05 49ers. His 1,000 yard season came in part time duty, but the following offseason when he was named the starter they lost Garcia, Owens, and 3/5 of the OL. Is it any wonder why he'd struggle then? Most people just look at his numbers though, and I understand that. He's not elite, but he'll put up solid numbers as long as he gets at least some support from his teammates. He should at least get that in NY. I enjoy the fact that people have written Barlow off. I really do. Some people are starting realize that he's going to provide solid value this year, but most people aren't going to bother with him. I heard the same thing when I had good things to say about Thomas Jones before he played in Chicago. As for projections, it depends on if he starts from week 1 or not. If he does, I think he'll be looking at 1200 or 1300 total yards and 7 or 8 TDs. His upside is higher than that if the Jets' offense really comes together, but I don't expect it. That's only about 70-80 total yards per game and a TD every other game... if he's starting and stays involved in the passing game like I think he will, that's very attainable.

<======= very unhappy Jets fan

This dude is a tool. If he was unhappy with Nolan, he's gonna be miserable if Mangini starts ripping into him as my indication is Mangini has an even lower tolerence for BS than Nolan.

I think this will end in tears.... MINE watching the games this year.....
