Kevin Smith (1 Viewer)

Yessssss! Smart move picking up Smith to fill Best's role. He's coming through bigtime.

Battle, thanks for the few points you helped me with... sorry, you will not be missed.

He could be a nice pick-up but I wouldn't go nuts trying to get him. It's still Kevin Smith here, people.
It's still Kevin Smith, a former featured back for the Lions who's 24, impressed the head coach that they couldn't help but sign him and is going against the Carolina Panthers in week 11.
Yes, it's still Kevin Smith....a guy that wasn't on ANY team all year before the Lions picked him up off the street. Why is that? Maybe he's just not as good as he once was?Like I said, he could be a nice fill-in player here and there but I wouldn't go crazy trying to get him. Some people in this thread act like he'll be the next Demarco Murray type pick up.
Why is that? because nobody gave him a chance except New England in preseason, when they already have BJGE, Woodhead, Ridley, Vereen, Faulk, etc. they had no need for him. The pats always work out guys for no real reason. so maybe he is not as good as he once was, its a low/risk, huge/reward type of pickup is what people like and opportunity
:lmao: Okay, and WHY did nobody give him a chance? There were obviously other teams that could have used another RB, why didn't they give him the chance?

Heck, why didn't Detroit sign him right after Leshoure went down?

<--- Fantasy stud right here.
Why did the Giants trade Ryan Grant a few years ago?Why was L Blount cut a few times?

Why did nobody draft A Foster?

Why did the Jets let Woodhead go last year when they clearly could have used him?

Nobody can clearly answer the "why didn't they" question, except to say that these things happen all the time. NFL coaches and personnel people make mistakes, miss opportunities, etc. Also, many times, money and contracts play into decisions (or non decisions).

Really, you can use the "if he was so good, then why didn't..." argument with almost any ww/fa pickup.
:goodposting: you keep asking why didnt they? do you have any information from coaches or players that say he is done or washed up? no, didnt think so. so unless you can tell us why, the question is pointless without any validity from other coaches players etc
Okay, so why do a bunch of internet fantasy Kevin Smith fanboys think he'll be a great RB when pretty much EVERY team in the league didn't want his services? Why should all of these internet fanboys (yeah, I'm talking about you guys) know more than the actual teams that have either called him in to try out (Patriots) or saw enough on tape to see that he just isn't that good and isn't worth a try out?The teams know more about this guy than you do. Quit acting like he'll come out of no where and dominate.

Kevin Smith is a solid sleeper and we all know it. The Lions can't continue to put the game on Stafford's shoulders. He has a broken finger and threw 4 ints yesterday. Kevin Smith will be the starter soon. And that's the angle everyone should be looking at. It's all about opportunity. About 60 - 70 total yards and a chance of a TD per game. Low end RB2, solid flex on a great offense. Oh, and the Lions play the Carolina Panthers in week 11.
:goodposting:

I was ok sitting him...until he just put the cherry on top of what must be his best day of his career, no?

What a day, but let's remember CAR rush D is pretty bad.

Was able to pick him up in all 5 of my dynasty leagues 2 weeks ago - no starts today, but I'm feeling pretty good about him moving forward. I suspect Best will be a timeshare at best moving forward, and he will not be rushed back if we see similar production next week.

:wall: I have been holding Best but finally gave up and dropped him this week for Mo Mo. Not looking like a good move. :loco: Also looking at Maurice's 2 points in my starting lineup is down right painful at the moment.

Hats off to a lot of posters in this thread, I was skeptical on his ceiling being as high as it apparently is. Glad I picked him up in every league though, just wish I'd have started him in at least one... Pretty sure this will be his best game of the year, hoping it's just the start of something awesome though.

I’m not expecting much from him but with Bradshaw hurt, Benson going against the Ravens and Wells going against the 49ers I might give him a start this week.
Started him over Wells this week. Just wish I was smart enough to pick him up in my work league....he is going to be expensive in the bidding this week.

Does this mean the end of Best this season?
Huh?This was the Panthers and Best will start when he clears tests. Smith isnt even close to being as talented even if he had a great game against a very suspect defense.Do yourself a favor and start Smith but stash Best. he will be back eventually.

im gonna take a shot on smith over jackie battle this week (f YOU, felix Jones, thanks for that!). I dunno...I just think that this week vs carolina the lions could run it 30 times. If they do and smith gets 10-15 carries and a few receptions he could bang out a decent stat line looking like 10-50, 1 td, 3 rec for 25 yds. Wishful thinking, maybe...but I like this kid. He is the most talented back on that team rt now. and even if best comes back he will be limited from here on in. SOMEONE has to become the bellcow for them. The door is wide open for smith.
Got this same lineup decision in my 16-team league right now...Battle or Kevin Smith (DMC, get back soon, please?). Been trading off between the two all week long - currently have Battle in there, with the news that Smith is running with the 3rd team. Still, Smith has a MUCH better matchup than Battle...
Went with Smith over Battle. :excited: :excited: :excited: Rode the pine in my other league, but had Rice and Michael Bush Starting there, so at least I didn't lose much. For those who watched - how much was the Panthers Run defense, and how much of the performance was Smith? IE, did he look good enough to do it against a decent run d?

Bad run defense aside, he looked damn good. Much niftier than I remember from a couple of years ago.

Like I mentioned to the Chris Johnson owners last week, temper your expectations...the Panthers run defense is horrendous.

Good thing we won't have the answer next week. The Packer's defense is horrendous!

Does this mean the end of Best this season?

Best is not a featured back. He has break away speed and catches the ball well, but has zero ability to get the tough yards. Smith looks like a better every down back.

Best coming back is iffy at best.Nonetheless, what has Best done that shows he is so much better than Smith? Smith was a legit RB2 on the worst team in the league with next to no offensive line. Best, is a legit RB2 on a much better team. I see a speed difference but not much else. If Best is so good why did they draft Leshoure?

Lions' fantasy playoff schedule:

Week 14: vs. MIN (just got torched by Bush today)

Week 15: @OAK (29th in rush yards allowed)

Week 16: vs. SD (22nd in rush yards allowed)

Why did the Lions cut Kevin Smith? When they cut him and Best went down, why did they take so long to re-sign a guy with this kind of talent who already knows the Lions offense?

The guy has been fighting injuries for a couple years and been struggling trying to comeback. I think the Lions were in shock when they saw the kind of shape he was in. The Lions were still counting on Best up until recently.

Getting way ahead of myself here. But I believe that those of us who were lucky enough to snag him (even the vast majority didn't start him) picked up the waiver wire pickup of the year. D. Murray part duex. Those of us who only have one RB1 on our team and have been searching for a good RB2 have finally their answer. The missing piece. The difference maker.

CHAMPIONSHIP!

Damn, kicking myself for not picking him up. That is a sweet schedule. But in reality in shock he looked as good as he did. No chance at getting him now.

Good questions. I think it's bc smith had some bad I juries and last year he showed that he didn't quite have his burst back after tearing his acl the prior year. I think they saw after today that he is fully recovered and smith will be their features back rest of the way or 2011. If he co times to perform like an elite back for the rest of the season they will be faced with a tough decision for 2012. They will be stacked at rb and leshoure is coming back fro his own devastating injury.

Need Lions to shut Best down for year, or at least until playoffs :excited:

Take this to the bank. This guy is clearly a great talent evaluator and prophet:
So...do you guys drop Mo Morris or Jahvid Best for him?
Neither IMO

Smith is better than Best ... in fact aside from a rare big run Best is not a very good good rb at all. He is a good receiver.
