Lache Seastrunk - RB - Baylor (1 Viewer)

If Seastrunk barely plays next week, they're trying to sneak him to the PS. If they give him plenty of run, then they want him to outplay Redd and Thompson and Royster and earn a spot and aren't concerned with losing him.

So basically, if he plays much next week then they think he was losing the battle to make the roster anyways.

IMO he's not getting snuck onto the PS with what he's flashed so far.

Had dinner at Chick-fil-a with the wife and kid and a guy walks in with sweat pants and a Baylor shirt. It's........Lache Seastrunk.

I spoke to him for a second. Nice southern kid. Looks bigger to me in person than I thought. A legit 5'10 and a much thicker frame than I would have guessed..

Adds nothing of value to this thread but it thought it was a cool story bro.

No, the wife was already making fun of me saying I was staring at him and when I spoke to him for a second my daughter was more concerned with getting an ice dream cone.

I'm hopeful he makes the team and I'll see him around again. I live in Reston and see players all the time. I swear I think I was one of the last people to see Haynesworth and Shanny in the same place during the lockout. Saw them in RTC about 10 minutes apart.

You should have thrown a cup at him to see if he caught it. We need verification on if his hands are good.

Should have made a run at his food. I'm sure he couldn't have blocked your path. ;)

Picture or it DIDN'T HAPPEN!

In all seriousness.... I've been wrong before, but the kid jumps off the screen when you put the ball in his hands. He's got such a dynamic element to his game that I'd be shocked if he hasn't impressed someone in the league enough to claim him off waivers if the Skins tried to sneak him to the practice squad. Blocking technique can be taught, and Lache isn't small. Some guys never get it, but others develop that aspect of their game just fine. The hands issue is a narrative that needs to simply die as someone said earlier in this thread... he can catch just fine. As I said before the draft, not being *asked* to catch in your college system and not being *able* to catch are two very different things.

Part of me hopes they're stupid enough to try sneaking him to the PS so a RB-hungry team like the Colts can claim him and watch him explode. The rational part of my brain says they're not sutpid enough to try that.

As I said before... certainly a chance (and a realistic one) we're all wrong about him and no one tries to claim him off waivers, but that would be quite surprising to me. Even with him on the practice squad another team can sign him to their active roster.

Washington would be taking a big risk with a legit talent IMO.

The Merriweather fiasco could cause Washington to hang onto an extra safety at the expense of another position. Might only keep 3rb's.

There's a roster exemption for those two games he's out I believe. So maybe not.
Think that's correct. Another concern would be Phillip Thomas. He's going for a visit to the doc who repaired his lisfranc. Some concern he could miss the season opener.

I think Seastrunk is the kind of guy that can learn to pass protect like a machine. He'll have to use his explosion to his advantage when stonewalling defenders. I don't think he has the luxury of using his body like an obstacle like Alfred Morris can. With that being said, Jamaal Charles and the way he is being used in Kansas City is the type of Offense Seastrunk can run and be successful.

Thinking about it though, RG3 escaping away and making read-option plays may be most effective with the fast running back. If RG3 and Seastrunk run any type of option, somebody is going to rack up yards on the play.

It's kind of like when watching Cordarrelle Patterson. You see him making plays and you don't care where he plays because eventually a coach is going to be able to bring the best out of him and utilize him correctly. I think Mikel LeShoure is another guy who could really shine somewhere else.

Gio is smaller and one of the best pass protecting RB's in the league. Physically there's no reason why Seastrunk can't be good at it.

I think he can catch. Please keep this guy. He offers something none of the other RBs can and I take him over Royster, Redd, or Thompson all day!

I drafted him with my last rookie pick. See him as another high upside long-term stash (like Michael), except his fundamentals aren't nearly as polished even as Michael's and he's not nearly as powerful. In this offense, though, I think he could be a great fit.

Expect to sit on him for a minimum of 2 years, and possibly longer, but I think he'll eventually get his shot. A good, cheap stash assuming your league parameters allow a long-term project of that sort.

Based on the reactions in here I was expecting this play to be a lot more impressive than that.
The catch was decent enough, especially given his (slightly unfair, IMO) knock for not being able to catch.

The impressive part was the burst that destroyed the angles of the two defenders who should have tackled him.

He has plenty of work to do on his game that will keep him off the field for awhile, but what he can do with the ball in his hands should earn him a look at some point.

Helu and Royster are UFAs next year, with Morris a UFA the year after that. Thompson can't stay healthy. Redd looks pretty good so far, but he's not as explosive as Seastrunk. I could easily see Redd/Seastrunk being a quasi-Turbin/Michael situation at this point next year. If you have a favorite in that battle, and want to invest in the Washington offense, then now's a good time to buy some cheap stock in your favorite option.

Yeah, the catch just wasn't what I expected. I expected some sort of good catch like a shoe stringer with your finger tips. That was a trap against his hip. The speed and explosiveness is very good but we already knew that.

I guess I just shouldn't have let the thread build my expectations.

It wasn't trapped against his hip. The GIF is sped up so maybe you couldn't tell, but he did catch it with his fingertips.

Agree with Jurb, I thought it was going to be a lot more special. It is the 3rd quarter against backups to backups. He showed nice speed, but you could interpret as all his burst or as bad angles from guys who may not even make the team. Certainly weren't any starters playing most of the game if at all.

Yeah, watched it again and he didn't trap it. Was hard to tell because it was jittery.

Not even close to a trap against his hip. Watch the full video in the game summary on nfl.com not a low definition gif.

It wasn't an impressive catch if you were expecting Calvin Johnson down the field but I've seen many NFL RBs drop passes just like that. The ball was slightly low, Seastrunk was able to pluck it and quickly turn up field and accelerate.

The most impressive part is obviously the acceleration and speed but if he doesnt catch the ball in the first place, or as cleanly as he does, then he doesnt even have the opportunity to display those traits and take it to the house. That catch is much harder than many think and again, I've seen countless NFL RBs mess up plays like that during the season.

I hate when guys get knocked for making plays against third stringers. Would you prefer them to get stuffed against lesser competition? :P

Yes. Reminiscent of his edge runs and receptions at Baylor. Make a move and house.

As a Steelers fan I wouldn't mind at all if they try to "sneak" Redd onto the PS and the Steelers snag him. He's been better than Seastrunk.

Redd was a major RB recruit out of high school, and had a great soph year at PSU, and then the scandal happened. He then transferred to USC which was a huge blow to PSU, but never was as successfull over there. I blame that more on their system/coaching and offensive cohesion than Redd himself. I certainly wouldnt mind seeing him in B&G.

Same for Seastrunk, though pretty sure he's not going anywhere.

Its being reported that he was released. That is crazy. Can't imagine he will be available for long....

They also released Thompson and Royster. Keeping Redd makes sense to me.

Id be surprised if he wasnt claimed. NO rb situation next year is murky. Pt will get older, ingram will likley be gone then they have khiry and cadet. Just thinking out loud...

That would be tremendous. There definitely seems to be some pretty plum situations. Indy would be a nice fit too.

Cowboys need to do something here.............Come on Jerry for once in your life make me proud.
