Lamont Jordan (1 Viewer)

Everything I've heard points to the Raiders dumping Lamont Jordan. I would have thought he would have been cut by now. Does anyone know if/when the axe will fall?

He probably won't get a shot at a starting gig, but he could end up as a decent backup or RBBC.

how is his back?

Guy was very productive before his injury, but barely stepped on the field after.

IIRC, he doesn't have a roster bonus due or anything, so they can cut him whenever they like. That being the case, it wouldn't surprise me if he is cut late. They also have the unknown of M. Bush on the roster. I think it is highly unlikely, but if he isn't getting it done, maybe they keep Jordan around. They don't need the cap room, and there's no reason to help another team out by releasing himActually there is a reason, it is generally a nice thing to do for a player; release him and allow him to seek his own deal. Zach Thomas is an example. Let's just say that Lamont is no Zach Thomas.

I think it most likely he will be cut, but if the Raiders don't owe him any money till week 1, and I think that is the case, then they may let him dangle for a bit. At least until after the draft. In May, the FA market for running backs is gonna be very poor, I bet.

Just read that Rhodes was kept on, but restructured his deal. I'd say Jordan is gone, just a matter of when.

Does Jordon have a horrible attitude/work ethic or something? I honestly don't know, would appreciate insight from Raider fans. He was the best part of their offense for the first few games last year and then couldn't sniff the field after his back injury. From what I heard he claimed he was fully healthy but Kiffin had no interest in playing him. If that's the case, what is stopping the team from dumping him if they still have Fargas, Rhodes and Bush? Seems like they're either intentionally trying to ruin any chance of salvaging his career or will try and trade him in perhaps the worst market for RBs we've seen in decades.

He had not been fully healthy since very early in the season, and hasn't been in shape since Norv Turner was here. And he was the best part of the offense, sure. As was Fargas when he played, and Rhodes when he played. Fargas was more effective, period. Kiffin played Jordan early, his back started tweaking, and that was it. By the way, that back injury happened on the most pedestrian of tackles. Basically, they couldn't trust his back. So better to give the reps to a guy they know wouldn't blow a gasket getting out of the shower. I have no idea if this is the case, but when a guy is not in good shape, and has back problems, it makes it easier for the coaches to question him.

Also, Jordan didn't keep his mouth shut. He couldn't be counted on, and yet ran his mouth during the season about leaving after the season.

You ask, what is stopping the team from dumping him? I ask, what's the rush? He has talent, just because he is not currently in the plans doesn't mean they should release him if they don't have to. He's a former 1,000 yard back, and a lot can happen to Bush, Rhodes, or Fargas before Week 1. The team needs to do what's best for the team, they really can't be worried about the job market for their under-achieving, out-of-shape running back.

The ONLY reason they would cut him now is to do him a favor. Jordan hasn't earned any favors.

That's exactly the type of info I was looking for. Many thanks!

Some good discussion in this thread about Lamont Jordan.

With the drafting of DMC do you think this makes it likely that Jordon is cut earlier and might have a chance to catch on somewhere?

Jordan is cut when/if Bush makes him expendable... so I say around Mid-TC or so. If Bush comes in health and shows he can handle the NFL.. Jordan is gone. If Bush comes in and isn't full healed or looks bad... Jordan stays. Something must be done w/ that contract if he wants too stay, Raiders are just under the cap and they have yet to sign DMac and the other draft picks.

I am not sure what the word on the street is about Sammy Morris, but I'll take Lamont Jordan in the bullpen of RBs in New England. Maroney, Jordan (Dillon like role) and Faulk wouldn't be a bad thing.

While I agree with you, the bolded statement is a little odd to me. Fargas has hardly been a picture of health in his career, but then again, I guess he was the best option they had at that point of the season.

From "The Sporting News"-

April 30, 2008 - 10:48 a.m.

According to a "league source," the Raiders have been holding onto LaMont Jordan because they believe they can still wrangle trade value out of his 2005 season.

Fantasy spin: Crazy Al is at it again. At this point there's no way teams will part with anything of value when they can simply wait for his release and sign him to a cheaper deal.
