You think Pennington has called the Tuna yet to put in a good word?Seems like a perfect fit for Miami.don't know the cap number or Jets cap situation but that's kind of surprising to me.
I could definitely see that happening. You think Pennington has called the Tuna yet to put in a good word?Seems like a perfect fit for Miami.don't know the cap number or Jets cap situation but that's kind of surprising to me.
Until you think of who's slinging the pigskin........Stuckey/Clowney owner loving this!
Plus they have to pay him, as they guaranteed the last two years on his contract to placate him when he was crying last offseason for an extension. Doesn't make much sense to cut him. They could have at least shopped him around.Rovers said:Coles was always whining... and ESPN reports they cut him because he insisted on a new contract... so he walks away from a 6 mil salary this year. This is not a cap cut. He still hits the cap hard even if he did get cut.
If that's the case then its not such a bad thing. They could bring in another WR with that $.Now there are reports surfacing that Coles "released" the Jets from his contract, resuting in the Jets saving 6mil on the cap in exchange for allowing Coles to enter the FA market... this is all very sudden and confusing.
That's correct. He's more interested in a longer deal than the guarantee, and he's taking the risk that it'll work out better this way. We'll see........Now there are reports surfacing that Coles "released" the Jets from his contract, resuting in the Jets saving 6mil on the cap in exchange for allowing Coles to enter the FA market... this is all very sudden and confusing.
I would think Keller benefits the most from this. With Coles gone he could get 70+ catches.ETA: Coles is exactly the type of WR the Jaguars should go after, but they might be a little gun shy. Or, they might just really like Jones/Walker/Northcutt.He is nothing but a whinner that just thru away at least 4 million. Can;t get open much anymore anyway. I don;t think he will get 2 million on open market. Clowney benefits most I would think. Stuckey and Crochery are more short route/ slot runners. Of coarse this all might be for naught if they can;t find an effetive qb. Clemons isnt the answer proven. Ratliff might be in time?

Contracts are structured in such convoluted ways that it's hard to say what it all means sometimes, but I did read one source suggest he's in line for about $7 mil/yr. http://www.newerascouting.com/top_stories/...agency-preview/How much would Housh cost them vs. the $6M saved?
One hyphenated name... Darrius Heyward-Bey... a slim possibility, but...How much would Housh cost them vs. the $6M saved?
Still, I'd like to see them give this a shot. Well, Ratliff to Cotch and ClownyTouchdown Syndrome said:"Ratliff-to-Stuckey" is not what fantasy football dreams are made of.
Not sure this effects TJ's FF #'s drastically. He can catch the ball coming out of the backfield. Most likely less carries, but maybe more receptions. Nice in a PPRThomas Jones owners should be upset right now. This hurts him a lot, because now with no Favre and Coles, that O is gonna struggle a lot. And TJ has never been the kind of RB that could produce without having a strong O around him. OTOH, the TE (forget the name of the rookie from last year) should benefit a lot in PPR leagues since he will get a lot of targets next year.
Right. It's Ratliff to CLOWNEY.Touchdown Syndrome said:"Ratliff-to-Stuckey" is not what fantasy football dreams are made of.
I bet you he signs a deal that look like more to a player on paper but in the end when he gets cut before the big $$$ kicks in he'll be wondering WTF happened...He could have had 6 million for 1 year. he won't get that - He'll probably make that in 2 years now.Like Harrison thought he was going to get paid. He's also an injury risk including concussions... It may sound like Jets fans are bitter but, Jets fans have been calling this one for a while... The thinking was this year was his last cuz, he'd NEVER walk away from 6 million on the table - You'd have to be nuts... But, he did...I think the Jets were given a favor here. That's correct. He's more interested in a longer deal than the guarantee, and he's taking the risk that it'll work out better this way. Of course, any contact between Coles reps and any other teams before this afternoon would not be kosher, but Coles (and any other players that have been cut) can sign with any other team right now. They do not have to wait until the FA period begins.Just wanted to add a thought... although agents and teams aren't allowed to negotiate before the free agency period begins, we all know they do it. I doubt Coles is taking such a big risk here in letting the Jets out of the $6 mil guarantee. I suspect he already has a landing place lined up or he wouldn't have done this, and knows he's going to come out OK financially. I really doubt it's the "gamble" the news outlets are making it out to be.
I think Dustin Keller is the bigger winner here.jonboltz said:Stuckey/Clowney owner loving this!
In actuality Coles has not been released. What they've done is agree to restructure his contract so that his 2009 contract year is not included. So, he becomes a UFA on Friday like the other UFAs whose contracts will run out (see 2nd paragraph of link below).http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/02/n...e_wide_rec.htmlOf course, any contact between Coles reps and any other teams before this afternoon would not be kosher, but Coles (and any other players that have been cut) can sign with any other team right now. Reading Google news blurbs, some are saying Stuckey but that may just be because he was the #3 last year. Others say he's better to stay as the #3, in the slot, and Clowney will get a shot. Some say they will draft WR early since Cotchery really is best suited as a #2, others think a FA will be added. When it's all added up, esp with the limited use of the passing game if what Ryan says is true, I have to wonder if Clowney/Stuckey (Cluckey?) is worth rostering at this time... of course that depends on who you'd be cutting. Not much help am I? Haha.... long way of saying I have no idea!So who is the best wr to pick up, Clowney or Stuckey? Or are neither worth grabbing?
I think Cleveland is the least likely spot.I think Coles feels Mangini was the start of him being "decieved" about contract situations. I also think Coles believes Mangini disrespected and then dumped his best buddy Chad.... Again, Mangini isn't that great communicating with players and Coles hasn't felt loved in a while.I'm expecting Parcells to come up with a deal that looks good on paper but, with incentives and a lot less guarantees and Coles jumps at it to be with his buddy.Cleveland is the most likely spot. MIN next option.Outside dark horses are Miami and Dallas. Other spots can make sense, but it'll depend on $ and how likely they are to be playoff teams. All four of these can pull this off.One last interesting team to mention is the Redskins.Don't even bother saying Philly - won't happen.
There was a report out of NY where coaches and possibly players were shocked that Clowney didn't get more playing time from Mangini... Apparently he's shown a lot in practice as well as the preseason stats we know...... And yeah, Stuckey is considered the slot guy.We did Winter Survivor leagues a few weeks back and right now I wish I had me some Clowney for my last round pick - no matter who the Jets pick up.Reading Google news blurbs, some are saying Stuckey but that may just be because he was the #3 last year. The connection is easy to see and Coles/Ginn/Bess makes a decent trio even if Cam doesn't come back. (BTW, any word on him?)As the previous poster said, I can see him in Miami. He was a Parcells favorite, a Pennington favorite. He's exactly what the doctor ordered in Miami.
Coles and Mangini had their share of problems (Coles was a big tim PIA during Mangini's first season complaining about how hard he worked the team all during TC), but that could happen as they worked through it and Mangini would love to bring a tough as nails player aboard with him I'd guess.Coles is still a hell of a player, but I agree with those that said this was a good result for the Jets. That $6MM can be put to better use and they can still bring in a lower level FA WR and go with Clowney and Stuckey who both have lots of promise.I will also disagree with those that say Cothery cannot be a #1 type WR. He has shown big play ability in the past, has great stregnth and hands. He is either second to Tory Holt or ahead of Holt in almost every NC State receving record - he had alot to do with River's succees there (and I'm sure Rivers had alot to do with his success as well).Cleveland is the most likely spot.
