Leon Washington (1 Viewer)

Many keep saying he will never be a everydown back, why can't he be a Tiki or Westbrook type?

5'8" @ 202lbs BMI=30.7

A BMI at 30.7 is in the ideal range for a RB, he is short but not small and all he ever does when given the chance is make plays. He will never be a hammer type pound the rock 30 carry RB but all he does is make plays.

Why not use a split with Leon as the 70% feature back and use TJ as the 30% short yardage change of pace RB?

I love Leon, and have him in a PPR. I think he would do well with more carries (evidence: 2006), however I don't think this coaching staff feels the same way.

For a LONG stretch of the game, Leon had touched the ball 3 times and scored on 2 of them. There was probably 4-5 more series until he was given another touch (from memory, could be a little off). I think he is a decent flex spot in a PPR, but unless TJ goes down I don't think he will be given much more work.

I had been hopeful for most of the year that he could increase his role because I don't think T. Jones is very good. I'm not surprised by his breakout but I'm am surprised at his limited use through out the year. Of course I dropped him last week... :lmao:

It largely boils down to offensive philosophy. Mangini likes to pound the ball with Jones and use Leon situationally to mix things up and as a home run threat.

Leon could probably handle a larger load, but the coaching staff probably doesn't want to overuse him. He's also critical in the return game, as we see week after week.

Perfect synopsis. What about 2009?Thomas Jones (August 19, 1978) will turn 31 during the 2009 pre-season, and Leon Washington (August 29, 1983) will be turning 26.If I was the coach, I'd make Leon the primary back, and have TJ come in on short yardage/goal line oppportunities.I mean, you could do that now too, but it'd totally screw my fantasy team, so I say wait for next year. :goodposting:

for those who are thinking of picking him up/trading for him.. Don't forget that there was a thread in here over the weekend which speculated that Leon was one of the players who might get suspended for steroid use.

i'm not saying it is fact but just want to let you know

The play calling was absolutely dreadful in this game. Against the worst rushing defense in the league, TJ had 14 touches; Leon had 3; Chatman had 5; Coles had 1, some other guy had 1 and Favre lost a yard on a rush attempt. The Jets ran the ball 25 times vs. 41 pass attempts. THIS WAS AGAINST KC, the team that gave up 150 yds to two runningbacks last week. Leon Washington would excell with more touches but when the primary ball carrier is getting only 15 chances against the worst D in the league, where do those chances come from? Chatman had more attempts than Leon. The Jets are really forcing things with Favre and that almost cost them the game yesterday.

One of two things is true: either Mangini has no confidence in TJ & Leon, or someone else is mandating that he maximize use of Favre. Either way makes him look bad.

THis is very true. Just because they have a HOF QB doesnt mean you forget about the running game. It made no sense on 3rd and less than a yard late second half to throw a 60 yard pass when TJ was running fine.

I see Leon being used ala Jerious Norwood style sad say. Gots loads of upside but staying in the change of pace role.

Shottenheimer will be fired at season's end..I'd bet at some point,Favre makes the stipulation that he'll only come back if Brian Shottenheimer is gone..what a lousy game to watch..and , not for nothing, the Jets/Raiders game was a joke as well..Shottenhiemer needs to get his act together..

File it under 2008 back-up RBs that played the Chiefs one week and did well. See previous weeks by McFadden, Stewart, Norwood, and LenDale.

I just found this forum. Anyway, hello.

Leon Washington will eventually cause the equivalent confusion that Wes Welker caused for the rest of the world after playing for a coach that understood how to use him. At some point Washington will go to another team and be every bit as dynamic, yet more consistent, than Reggie Bush. Everyone new to the notion of what an explosive player Washington truly is, will be scratching their head and wondering if Mangini is Italian for mongoloid.

Like Leon Washington, Wes Welker was wasted for several seasons by being unfortunate enough to be surrounded by people too stupid to understand how to use him. Welker went from marinating in a cauldron of failure and ignorance in Miami to leading the NFL in receptions at New England.

Leon Washington is Dave Megget and Eric Metcalf poured through a Barry Sanders prism.

Mangini's stunning willingness to neglect Washington from touching the ball is baffling.

The Jets have at least four different five-wide sets that I've noticed. None of these packages include Leon Washington. The only explanation for that would be that Mangini and Schottenheimer have a firm dedication to their special brand of ignorance and lack of creativity.

New York is a team with a decent offensive line and respectable talent throughout. It will be hilarious to watch them squander this season through an offensive scheme that consists of telegraphing their running game and making Favre force an average of 45 passes a game, while their most explosive and dangerous player watches from the sideline.

Mangini should wear a clown suit while on the sidelines.

Well done sir.

Oh hell, Chook -- didn't mean to semi-heist your username. I've been using 'Chooky' throughout the interwebtubes for a few years.

And to think, my other handle options were 'rowmacksy' and 'riffraffy.'

Haha, all is good.

Great writeup. I thought this article from today's NY Post was interesting. http://www.nypost.com/seven/10292008/sport...plan_135754.htm

Mangini is listenting to the fans and local media who critcized him for being too conservative (with Brett Favre in the mix no less) earlier this season. A dangerous thing for a coach to do. I agree 100% that the playcalling was idiotic. The Chiefs cannot stop the run, pund the ball. If the fans boo so be it. When teh game is over and the Jets have won 21-10, they will not be booing.
