Lesean McCoy? How concerned are we? (3 Viewers)

He's putting up the numbers. Just not the TDs. And he's been getting chances, just isn't getting any holes to run through to score.

Is Shady getting fewer looks this season? Let's see.

Through nine games, he has 173 carries. Through nine games last season, he had 167.

That's a pace for 308 carries on the season. How many carries did McCoy have last year? 314.

What about in the passing game? A little. He's getting one fewer target per game.

Through nine games last year, he had 29 catches.

Through nine games this year, he has 21 catches.

Is it because he's getting fewer targets? A little. He's getting one fewer target per game.

Through nine games this year, he has 29 targets.

Through nine games last year, he had 37 targets.

Is it because he's getting fewer touchdowns? A little, but that could just be flukey.

Through nine games this year, he has 2 TDs.

Through nine games last year, he had 4 TDs. He would go on to score 7 more in the final 7 games including three multi TD games.

I think the problem is pretty obviously the yards per carry and yards per reception. So let's address talking point number one - that Chip just isn't using him - and say that that's really not the case.

While we're at it, let's also address the Sproles complaints. If anything, Sproles is stealing a catch per game from him, and not taking away from his carry totals. I think a lot of people remember huge plays from Sproles - an 8 yard touchdown run and a special teams touchdown this week, for example - and don't realize that was Sproles' only rushing attempt, and he was only targeted twice all game - for one catch for 13 yards. Sproles has had a couple monster games - his 7 catch for 152 yards and 4 rushes for 26 yards and a TD week 2 spring to mind - but McCoy also had a good game that week, with 102 total yards and a TD of his own. Since that game, here are Sproles' receiving numbers:

3 catches for 30 yards on 4 targets

2 catches for 2 yards on 4 targets

0 catches for 0 yards on 0 targets

0 catches for 0 yards on 4 targets

(out)

4 catches for 46 yards on 5 targets

1 catch for 13 yards on 2 targets

Does that really look like Sproles is taking anything away from McCoy? Or like Chip is redesigning the whole offense around Sproles because he hates McCoy? Let's put those ideas to rest, too.

Figures....I traded him away exactly right before these two big games.
Why? For what?
Crowell and West. Lesean has had two very good games against crap defenses. Now he gets the Seahawks. I pushed my chips in that Crowell would score better this week. I still think he does. And now that it's do or die in the playoffs I think McCoy is going to lay one of those 12 for 30 clunkers on fantasy owners. I did it with this week in mind. We'll see what happens.

I think you put too much stock in Seattle's defense....

I'd put their performance last week more on SF than them being a monster again... We don't even have to discuss AZ with Stanton.

Especially cross country in the Linc.

I wish bad things upon this guy, not like death or terminal disease, but maybe a bad recurring case of herpes or something in this neighborhood.

After seeing Lesean's stat line, I was bummed that I traded DT for McCoy three weeks ago...until I saw that DT stat line. Losing was in my stars.

Maybe. We'll find out. But McCoy has put up his share of clunkers this season. I think he's due.
This one was looming. I traded for Forte because of it but have had to put up with seeing McCoy put up two huge games while Forte stunk once and nearly did again save for some garbage time lovin'. There's still some time in today's game to salvage something (hope not I'm facing him) and next week will be favorable again.

Rotoworld:

The Philadelphia Daily News' Paul Domowitch said it is 'not likely' the Eagles want to keep LeSean McCoy at his current $11.95 million cap charge.

McCoy has said he is not open to a pay cut, but a restructuring that kicked some guaranteed money down the road could work for both sides. The Eagles could also conceivably cut McCoy, but that seems unlikely at this point. McCoy averaged 4.23 YPC with just five TDs on 312 carries last season. He lost passing-down and short-yardage work to Darren Sproles and Chris Polk.

Rotoworld:

Bills acquired RB LeSean McCoy in exchange for LB Kiko Alonso.
It's a stunning trade in a league bereft of them. The move gives new Bills coach Rex Ryan a centerpiece for his "ground-and-pound" offense, and reunites Alonso with his college coach in Chip Kelly. The Philadelphia Daily News' Paul Domowitch reported late last month that the Eagles were unlikely to keep Shady at his $11.95 million cap number. McCoy is coming off a year where he averaged just 4.2 yards per carry and was eased off goal-line duties, but remains one of the league's premier runners. He is still only 27 (in July). From a fantasy perspective, he remains a clear RB1. As for the Eagles, they now have a gaping hole at running back. For better or worse, Kelly is proving more than ready to exercise his absolute control of the Eagles' roster.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports new Bills RB LeSean McCoy is expected to "make noise about wanting an extension," and could even threaten to decline to report to training camp.
Per La Canfora, the Bills are "bracing for that already." A trade is a perfect time to angle for a new deal, but already due at least $6.9 million each of the next four seasons, Shady isn't going to get it. McCoy will likely/understandably be sour about the deal for some time, but he's going to work for one of the league's great salesmen in Rex Ryan. By the time camp rolls around, Shady should be hungry to prove he's still one of the game's best offensive players.

Bills are a legit team with shady/Watkins, that defense and Rex. 10-6 imo.
Not without a QB and they do not have an NFL QB on their roster at this moment.
they were 9-7 without a quarterback, significantly upgraded their offense, Watkins is a year further along and Rex is handling their defense. I think a one win improvement is possible.
Orton is (was) an NFL QB. Not a good one but he was one. EJ Manuel is not NFL material.

Rotoworld:

A source informed ESPN's Josina Anderson that LeSean McCoy is "frustrated" over being traded to the Bills and is "not going to make it easy, that's for sure."

"Of course he's not happy," added the source. "It'll be interesting to see how this process plays itself out because he's an interesting individual. ... He was like 'why me?'" Some are leaving the door open to McCoy possibly refusing to go to Buffalo, leading to the Bills possibly pulling out of the trade prior to it officially going through when the new league year opens March 10. But in all likelihood, the Bills will hand McCoy a new contract with more guaranteed money through 2015 and 2016 and let coach Rex Ryan work his magic as a coach with the ability to convince his players to "buy in." Ryan's the ultimate players coach.

Rotoworld:

A source close to LeSean McCoy told the Philadelphia Inquirer that McCoy is "ready to move on" after initially being "frustrated" over his trade to Buffalo.

It's good news for the Bills, although McCoy's contract may become the next obstacle. There is some belief he may want money added to the deal, or for guarantees to be added in future years. Just $1 million of McCoy's 2015 salary of $9.75 million is guaranteed. His 2016 salary of $6.9 million is without any guarantees. McCoy has $350,000 more in bonuses in each year.

LeSean McCoy - RB - Bills
In a radio interview, Bills coach Rex Ryan said, "We're going to run it 50 times if we can."
"We're not naive enough to think we're going to be able to get away with that," Ryan continued, adding Buffalo could also "spread you out and create some nightmares in coverage." Though he tried to temper the comment, Buffalo's offseason moves always pointed to a run-heavy approach. They brought in a run-first offensive coordinator in Greg Roman, traded for LeSean McCoy and settled for bridge-quarterback Matt Cassel. Buffalo does have some weapons to utilize outside if they ever figure out the quarterback position, but for now McCoy should be the focus of the offense. He has a great shot to top 300 carries for the third-straight season.
