Let the Shennanigans continue... (1 Viewer)

Although free agent RB Ryan Grant had an "impressive" workout with the Bears Tuesday, he's expected to sign a contract with another team.

Grant had previously worked out for the Lions, but we wonder if the mystery team might be the Redskins. The team's brass had reportedly volleyed the idea of signing Grant before training camp opened, and the backup duo of Roy Helu (turf toe) and Evan Royster (knee) is nursing injuries this week. In addition to Grant, the Bears also worked out Jacob Hester.

Grant just signed with skins....

Redskins agreed to terms with RB Ryan Grant.Grant reportedly weighed offers from "multiple" teams, though we suspect the Redskins may have been the only franchise willing to part with much in the way of guaranteed money. Grant will be strictly a backup with the Redskins, spelling starter Alfred Morris while Roy Helu (turf toe) and Evan Royster (knee) miss time with injuries. Helu was in a walking boot after Sunday's game
.

settle down. i believe royster and helu got banged up last week. nothing to see here. not worth a roster spot.
This is the truth. Although I've been a huge proponent of selling ALMO (weakened pass rush, #### secondary, more shootouts, him not being involved in the pass game etc. etc.) this is clearly a depth move. The last time I saw Grant run he looked like he had zero gas left in the tank.

Three weeks later....
Its a depth move. Helu and Royster have been healthy the past three weeks. How many touches have they seen? Morris is the guy as long as he is healthy.
Helu has a case of turf toe. Royster is banged up as well.
About Helu & Royster, there's something about Shanahan RBs getting injured, it's one way Shananigans happen...

Probably nothing to see here except a back-up, but interesting signing regardless.

As an interesting aside it was actually reported (this evening on the radio) that the Bears were kicking the tires as well. Not sure what that means about Forte long term...just saying.

Nothing to see here, just a depth chart move.

As an Alfy owner in both of my leagues, seeing Royster and Helu on the injured list puts a smile on my face (even though I'm never a person to wish an injury upon anyone).

My only concern with Morris is withing the opponents' 5-yard line as RGIII will likely run it in more than not.

Morris will get his 75+ yards per game (perhaps increased passing down snaps with the other backs injured), but it's the threat of RGIII stealing his goal line / red zone carries is what scares me :(

While some of you guys claim Grant is a non factor, I went ahead and snagged him to backup Morris. (Dropped Royster)

My Reasons:

1. I don't think Morris looks very good, at all.

2. The Shanahans

Is Hightower still hurt? He seems like the obvious guy to bring back.
thought he got cut
He did get cut... because he was hurt. He knows the system, which is why I am guessing that he is still hurt. Shanny seemed to love him, but I've seen zero news about him since he got cut.

So do you think Grant would start before Royster if something was to happpen to Morris.
Right now Royster is hurt, so yeah. But if Royster wasn't hurt, no, not at least until Grant gets up to speed and convinces the coaches that he's better.

Just posted in the Morris thread. But here is what to expect:

1. Morris has the starter's job locked down. Don't expect Shennanigans here.

2. Morris has been targeted one time in the passing game, when RGIII was running for his life and tossed the ball toward Morris. It was incomplete. If catching passes was a strength of Morris, he would have been targeted more by now. So don't expect any sudden increase in receiving for Morris. Note that Royster and Helu have not caught many passes either. It appears RGIII just looks downfield more than what we are used to.

3. Helu is now on IR. The past two games, Royster was the receiving RB on passing downs, not Helu. But Helu's injuries may have played a role in that.

4. I thought I heard Hightower probably needs 8 games or so to get back to 100%. He is apparently still on the Redskin's radar. But they decided to cut him rather than use the IR exception that let's you bring back one player. Makes sense since no one will sign Hightower now.

5. Grant is a warm body, but a warm body with a name and a history of being productive. If he is a better receiving back than Royster, he will probably get that job. He may get it week 1 if Royster can't play. It's not clear how badly Royster is hurt.
