You've all seen the scenario: 4th and a foot for a TD, :07 seconds (or so) on the clock. Down by 3 to the Fins.

The Ravens have just driven the throats of the Dolphins and need to punch it in to win. Instead they take the chip shot FG, tie it up, go to OT, miss an FG and let the Dolphins complete a long pass/run to win their first game.

So if you're coach of the Ravens, which do you do?

Trick question. Trying to get us to admit to having an IQ comparable to Billick. I chose option # 1 but where is the option where Billick leaves the NFL permanently?

I think Billick did the correct thing. If it were the Pats...you go for it, because the odds of Brady marching down and scoring 1st possession in OT is highly likely. A Cleo Lemon led 0-13 dolphins team...not as likely. Stover choked for 1st time ever in OT, so Billick put them in position to win. I think Billick should be fired, but in this game situation I think he made the correct decision anyway.

I voted "go for it" because of the amount of time left. I was watching the game and, IIRC, there were 12 seconds on the clock when he sent out the kicking team. That's certainly enough time for at least one shot into the endzone. If he didn't make it, he could always kick a field goal after taking the chance.

With a few seconds less left on the clock, I might lean Billick's way. But with that much time, he was overly-conservative.

Given the situation and their season, why not go for it. You have a good short yardage back, a road grader at LT, and absolutely nothing to lose. Win or lose, your season is shot. Why not just go for it?

If your season was on the line, and the game mattered for your postseason ranking, I'd say kick it and go to overtime Especially for a team like the Ravens, who would expect their D to hold the opponent, and have a strong kicking game. In fact, they had the game where they wanted it, but missed the kick.

Only problem with your theory is that it was 4th down. I still think they should have run it in.

IIRC it was 4th down. You don't get two chances...Spike on first down to stop the clock.

Incomplete pass-2nd down

Pass to 1 ft line, out of bounds stopping the clock--3rd down

FG try-4th down.

If you can't get 1 foot against the worst rush defense in the NFL, then you don't deserve to win, plain and simple.

I'd say the odds of getting 1 foot on a QB sneak there are about 80%, at least (I think I've seen one unsuccessful QB sneak that I can remember, so maybe the odds are closer to 95%). The odds of you winning in OT are less than 80%- after all, you may only be playing Miami, but don't forget that they managed to take you to overtime in the first place (and, in fact, that you had to RALLY just to make it to overtime). As a result, going for the TD is the right play there.

Ah, my bad. I could've sworn they had a first down. Too much Sunday Ticket flipping, I guess.

You are 4-9 and have nothing to play for except pride. You go for it, hand the ball to your best player,McGahee, and have him punch it in. If you can't get half a yard than you don't deserve to win, period....
