Let's talk about Dallas running backs (1 Viewer)

I'd like to discuss this annoying RB situation a bit more and get some insite from homers or people who have had the luxury to watch the Dallas games this year. I haven't seen much of the games myself, so mainly have stats to base assumptions from. Seems like Jones is the main guy there, but Barber always gets his touches and seems to get a significant number of his looks in the red zone.

What are the chances either of these guys takes the starting role and doesn't turn back? Will that only happen if one gets injured?

Comments on their stats up to this point in the season? What's in store for them for the remainder of this season?

Looks & Touches:

Jones:

Barber:

This situation will NOT change barring an injury.

Expect:

JJ to have 18-22 carries a game.

MB3 to have 6-8 a game

TT to get spot duty in blowouts.

JJ is outperforming his pre-season ADP and been a good RB2. He has a nice string of games coming up against weak teams. I would be trying to acquire now.

Just my $0.02

:goodposting: Despite people wanting to believe otherwise, there is no RB controversy in Dallas. Jones is the starter, Barber is the handcuff. Nothing more to see here, move along.

same as always.. JJ will have the 70-30 split, if you havent seen a Cowboy game, JJ is playing quite well, barber is filling in nicely on 3rd down and when he gets his series he usually gets a good YPC.

dont expect things to change, JJ will be the horse, Barber the change of pace.

the big question is who goes in at the goal line, it was barber week 1 and week 3, parcells let Jones knock a td in from the 5 last week.. i think barber will have a good amount of goal line chances but if Jones is running hard, he'll take them

dont know if you can acquire JJ for cheap, but if you can, do it.

I think JJ is one of the most underrated RBs right now. With Glenn, TO, and Witten running routes, no team can put 8 men in the box to stop him. I think he is will finish as a top 10 back....assuming he stays healthy. If he goes down, then Barber becomes a great start.

I think Barber has value as a bye-week filler, especially in the game against the Texans.

I disagree. I had bye-week issues last week and loved Barber's matchup against the Texans and started him as my RB3. He matched my expectations perfectly (50+ yards and a TD). When the matchup is right I think Barber is looking real good as a RB3 because he's going to get 8 carries at least a game and he has the goal-line role. I like his value quite a bit in games like that.Jones is a strong RB2 every week right now in my opinion. He's the clear starter and he's looking real good. As long as he's healthy I don't see the situation in Dallas changing.

Barber is more than a bye week fill in. Unless you are playing in a very small league. He is my #2 on a 12 team league.

I don't share this opinion.

Banker - Are you saying that in a 12 team league you would not be happy with him as your #2 RB?

Not sure why starting Barber would be a  against the Texans. Did people not see what Barber did in mop-up time against Tenn? I would almost go as far as gauranteeing a TD by Barber in garbage time. He'd be a good spot starter against the Texans.
I am saying he is more than a bye week fill in.
OK got it. My mistake then. I'm not sure he's anything more than a RB3 option when the matchup is right, though. I like him obviously but unless it's a good matchup (like last week vs. Tennessee) it's difficult to project he'll get a decent enough amount of yardage to consider starting him and it's always a crapshoot to guess on a touchdown. I thought last week he was a slam-dunk starting option. But this week, for example, I don't like his chances much and I'm actually a little surprised to see where he's ranked in the prelim cheat sheets here. There are a few guys I'd rather reach for if I had to this week at a RB3 spot than Barber (Michael Turner is one who comes to mind).

Barber cannot be anything more than bye week fill in, he simply isnt consistent enough, Dallas wont be in a blow out every week, there will be weeks where he gets 4-7 touches, that is NOT rb2 material.

JJ is rb 2 material.

:goodposting: Injury is all it's gonna take for MBIII to get the spotlight, but even then when JJ comes back he'll be the starter once again. But from a fantasy standpoint, MBIII has more value in the starting role.

just traded Chad for Julius in a 14 team redraft straight up. i'm stacked at WR and real thin at RB. i have Barber in my keeper league, so this is a good hedge. i do think though that Julius has the job all year if he stays healthy.
