Let's talk Kickers..... (1 Viewer)

I know in the Shark Pool not a lot of time and effort is spend on kickers and with good reason. My point of this post is to get guys to weigh in on who could become the next Neil Rackers. With that said, a solid kicker but will get lots of opportunities like Rackers did. Cardinals moved the ball but usually stalled in the red zone thus giving Rackers three to four attempts per game.

So, with that said, what offenses are good enough to move the ball but not potent enough to punch it in?

What say you?

Jason Hanson in Detroit

Martz throws the ball so much in the red zone many drives stall and end in FGs. Jeff Wilkins has been good for awhile due to this.

Look for offenses with good passing games and weak running games. Those seem to be the ones with the breakout kickers over the past few years.

This year, I'd say Detroit might be a good starting point.

I like Stover this year in Balt. I really like that offense this year and think they will get a ton of opportunities at FGs

I also tore my hair out watching Martz pass up FGs and go for it when it made no sense whatsoever!

Hanson and Mare are two guys I've been targeting, Mare more than Hanson.

Both posess the prime ingredients for success IMO. Marginal defense, good, but not great offense, and what look to be pretty bottom-feeder red-zone efficiency.

With Hanson, as someone else already hit on, Martz loves to throw in the redzone, and that's going to fluff Hanson's totals a lot.

For Miami, their running game has struggled at times in the red-zone and their go-to receiver has one of the lowest reception percentages in the league.

Actually, if you do statistical analysis based on field position and expected return, you find that teams don't go for it on fourth down nearly enough.

Seabass anyone? He's looking good...Gould in Chicago? He's real young. Just some ideas.
It's not about youth or how good the actual kicker is.FF kicking is all about opportunities. Find the kicker who's going to have a great number of opportunities, and you'll have a much better kicker than those who have good kicking ability.

Agree on Janikowski. He's been very frustrating to watch over the years, but I's got a feelin bout him dis year. Shell has really called him out and he seems to have responded. He looks less fat than usual and is booming field goals this preseason.Plus i really think the Raiders stretch the field offense is going to have issues with consistency. They will move and stall a lot I think and Janko will be on the receiving end of a lot of 40-50+ yard opps as a result. Especially if he keeps up the momentum and earns the trust of the team. You gotta luv the fact that even if you bust on a last round kicker, there's always a ton of guys on the wire to plug in later.

I don't see why Rackers couldn't repeat. Sure they brought in Edge but that O-line is still putrid. I think they'll move the ball between the 20's alot but most drives will stall.

I also like Gould...if he makes the roster. Some people have been pimping Josh Huston.

I like Akers to challenge as top kicker this year.

He has always been very productive (excluding last year's injury filled season) and should benefit from the lack of beef in the Eagles running game.

Jason Elam. When it comes to kickers, there is one certainty- Jason Elam will finish in the top 10. I think he's working on his 11th straight top-10 finish, or something ridiculous like that. When last I checked, the second longest active streak was either two or three straight top-10 seasons.

Huston may win out in CHI.

I admit that I have absolute MAN LOVE for Joe Nedney as a kicker.

He doesn't really fit the "in a productive offense" part of the equation, but man..... the guy is :moneybag:

Every one of his kicks seems to split the uprights dead center, and they sail through at about 90 feet high. I will give him a look very, very late in my drafts, and just pray that the Niners can somehow cross midfield.

I too have been targeting Hanson for the reasons mentioned, plus strong 50+ leg in a dome with Marinelli, not Martz, deciding when to kick FG's. He's pretty much going undrafted in many leagues!

I picked up Janikowski and dumped Mike "Ted" Nugent.I think GHB is going to boom some this year. Also looking at Koenen, I think he'll sit on the wire for awhile.I would like to see how he performs during the rest of pre-season.

but those calls will not be soley up to him since he is just OCi'll be taking Hansen late in my redrafts

No one is mentioning John Carney. Not that he is a lock but I would think the Saints offense might stumble a bit and the guy has proven to be consistently good. Possibly playing in the dome will help too.
