So what's the deal with him? Drafted high in '05....massive game last year at the end of the year...traded to the Pack to back up the forever injured and aging Ahman Green.

Is he the future at RB for the pack? Strong inside runner, not bad size....not a burner but nice burst.

wow, overwhelming replies so far. ;)

Isn't Green at that stage where it's time for him to be replaced? I'm trying to gage if it's Morency who gets first crack at his gig next year IF he ends up on the way out in Green Bay.

I think that your assessment in on par. I think that the pack like Morency enough to take a look at him for the future.

However I would think that the Pack have their eyes on Peterson (oklahoma) in the draft?

I think Ahman Green has shown enough to be the starter at least next year. I am not sold that Morency will be the replacement. I think he is a good compliment to Green. He will have a shot but I don't think it will be for quite some time barring injury.

I agree here. I was one who thought Ahman was done but he has played pretty well. I don't think there will be much interest in hime from other teams and that it is highly likely that he returns as the starter next season. It's not like Green Bay invested a ton in Morency by trading away Gado who was thought of as not a good fit in their system.

The Packers have a lot of holes to fill. Not sure they'll go RB in the first when they seem to be relatively deep at that position, though a franchise back does have its allure.

On local radio here in Milwaukee they had Ahman on a couple of weeks ago and he said his agent and the Packers were talking about an extension. I'd assume it'd be done to prorate some cap dollars to this season sooner than if at all.

Status quo. That team's not going to win a Super Bowl next year, so they're building for the future. I think they draft another lineman in the first round and keep the Ahman-Vernand show going.

Vernand will be #2 next year behind Ahman.

they like him as a backup/change-of-pace.

they got him for absolutely nothing in an effort to improve the KR game and give them a viable backup.

they aren't going to draft Adrian Peterson. or any RB in round 1. expect Green and Morency back in '07.

I don't necessarily agree Furley.

The only reason the Packers traded for Morency is because they realized Gado was not going to be effective in McCarthey's offense. It was more a move to get anything for Gado than it was a love of Morency.

I believe if a gamebreaker, a playmaker was there for the Packers in the draft -Calvin Johnson, who would be the ideal pick, the WR from GT will be gone - so it will likely be a RB, DL or DB. Either Peterson or Marshawn Lynch could easily be the pick. As for other WR - Ted might go for Ted (Ginn Jr.) simply because he is the fastest WR in the draft if he comes out and has big play ability.

Sores> :bye: (oops, forgot this was a Morency thread. i don't think that they were in love with Morency when they traded for him either.. but they got a guy with experience in the offensive system that has shown flashes of ability and who has been average to above at the backup spot. i think they're content with him for another season provided he stays healthy.)don't think the Packers will be drafting high enough to get Peterson, even if they wanted him. Johnson MAY be available to them but even he might go top 5.the way i see it, Ted is a frugal guy. he knows there are holes on the roster that need drafting to fill.. he also knows that he has capable running backs in Green, Morency and Herron therefore he's not going to splash a big bonus on a position that's not a need. they need a tall receiver that can get downfield and win the jump ball.. they need safety help.. they need some more line depth at tackle... they need to pick up another QB (probably mid-to-late) and they need a pass rusher or a better anchor at end to replace KGB. if Calvin Johnson is sitting there at #10 or wherever they draft i wouldn't be surprised if they took him.his comparative downside scares me.. as he seems to be the '06 Mike Williams. but his upside could be big-play potential downfield while being a solid possession receiver as well. they really need the line to improve and a downfield threat to open up the offense a little. Driver is great, i love the guy, but he's 6' and not winning the deep passes w/o a spectacular effort.
