Ditto. Maybe he found out some things about the way they will assign responsibilities, or some of the other people/players or practices in the organisation he just didn't like. A guy like him who will probably get another shot as a HC if he can bounce back and have some success as a coordinator probably should be picky.49ers: We just looove Shaun Hill. We think you can make him the next Drew Brees.Linehan: Um, I'm going to take my time with this decision...No biggie. I've turned down jobs I've interviewed for in the past.

Maybe he hadn't met the ownership before.
You realize the kid is now running the team? It is no longer Dr. York.Maybe he hadn't met the ownership before.

It is serious unreasonable to expect someone to take a job just because they interviewed for it. People interview for many reasons -- generally it is the only way to know if you'd even want the job. Sometimes it may be looked at poorly if you turn down the interview, not even giving them a chance. Many people think that is why Joe Girardi interviewed for the Orioles job.S.K.A. said:Why would he interview if he didn't intend to take the job?
If Linehan found out something about the team he wasn't comfortable with during the interview process, it would make perfect sense for him not to take the job. If he's not taking the job because his wife doesn't want to move to SF... it seems like that is something that could have been worked out before the interview. His public comments have seemed to suggest the latter, although that could just be Linehan trying to avoid hurting any feelings.Either way, it seems like SF has assembled the players (probably inadvertently) that would fit well in a WCO system. I think it might make more sense for them to go in that direction anyway. It is serious unreasonable to expect someone to take a job just because they interviewed for it. Missed that if in article-- Are you saying he had a second interview or interviewed a different season? Either way, I think it is smart/professional to be willing to listen to and consider (or at least pretend to) every opportunity. when there is a small universe of jobs and everyone know everyone else.I also suspect that many coaches have resorted to the "It doesn't work for my family" card when they just didn't want the job.But to interview twice?
A second interview tends to get down to brass tacks, hammering out details not only regarding compensation but scope of responsibility, etc. There's plenty of room for new information to have emerged, either relating to Linehan's own job/compensation or regarding the organization at large, that caused Linehan to withdraw his name. I don't see a big mystery here. This is pretty typical stuff. But to interview twice? It is serious unreasonable to expect someone to take a job just because they interviewed for it.
