Lions' Calvin Johnson Injury (1 Viewer)

I am thinking it may have been his tailbone... he was sitting awkwardly on the golf cart as they drove him from the sidelines to the locker room. Could just be a badly bruised asscheek though :hot:

Yea- I saw that, and someone at work just broke theirs. It wouldn't wipe out his season, but he'd be out for at least a couple of weeks, probably!

He leaped and made a spectacular catch between 2 defenders and landed squarely on his ###. He was on the turf for a good 10 minutes and then very gingerly walked off. I thought it may have been a broken tailbone, ouch! Hopefully the "bruise" was confirmed by an x-ray.

It was an incredible catch he got hurt on.

I taped the game and it did not look good..hopefully just a bruise but he landed really awkward.

Conflicting at this point on WFDN Detroit..Team says he is fine, CJ says his back hurts.

I don`t think CJ was ever really hurt in college, so this may be uncharted waters for him.

Just heard on AM1270 that he is not practicing today, and that he is walking a bit gingerly. They also added that Calvin expects to play Sunday.

Marinelli thinks he will play, but would not guarantee it. I am not positive, but I don't think he practiced today. I would think more will be known tomorrow.

Lions coach Rod Marinelli thinks wide receiver Calvin Johnson will be able to play Sunday against Chicago, but he isn’t sure.

“I think Calvin’s going to be fine,” Marinelli said after practice Thursday. “But I don’t want to tell you something, and then it’s not true.”

Johnson, who has a bruised lower back, did some running Thursday. He is scheduled to practice some today.

“We’ll see how that goes, see how he wakes up tomorrow,” Marinelli said.

I think even if he plays, he will be limited, or could reaggravate the injury. I think if you have a decent other option at WR you might think about using it this week and see how it pans out.

Im benching him this week, so he will probably have 100 and a TD

How do you reaggravate a bruise?Seriously, the guy is in pain and has been limited in practice. By Sunday that bruise should heal alot more. All he has to do is deal with the pain.

Goes without saying I don't know CJ's specific ailment; I will say I've bruised a tailbone before while playing broomball and falling similar to that on ice. I'm not exactly clear how one would reaggravate that sort of injury other than taking the same direct impact again [at which point it wouldn't really matter if he was still recovering or 100% healed]. If it is like my injury, he'll probably feel more discomfort getting up from his seat when the team bus arrives than actual running and jumping.

Roy Williams would not have made that catch. Megatron is the man.
CJ made a GREAT catch, Roy has also made many like that. Props to CJ but don't hate on Roy!
Nothing against Roy, but there was a similar play later in the game, where Roy was sent on the same route as the one Calvin made the catch and got injured on. Roy didn't come down with the ball. It was kind of amazing, actually, how similar the play looked and even the position of the ball, but Roy couldn't hold on. Still a great receiver, but he doesn't have Calvin's hands.

They did not sound too optimistic on the radio last night. Hopefully he will improve today.

Maybe so. As someone else mentioned, however, there's no science in predicting how bruise pain will feel 3 days out. He could wake up tomorrow with little or no discomfort from the bruise even if was still ailing him Thursday. Also, I'd imagine they have access to pain meds that wouldn't jeopardize his health since, as mentioned, this may not be an injury that would be aggrevated by playing through it, assuming it is a bruised tailbone.

Thanks I have Westbrook, CJ, Boldin, Ahman all on my team. I basically am bending over an taking a loss this week.

It was a great catch but I've seen him make better in college and I've seen Roy make some dooozys. If anything I was impressed how Kitna delivered the ball in double coverage.

If anything (as a CJ2 owner) I'm breathing a sigh of relief that this was just a bruise and not a tear or pull.

With the amount of injuries to the bears D I'd be looking forward to this matchup if he plays

 anyone have a link to this AMAZING catch he got hurt on?

Did the HEAD coach just say "...I don't think he practiced today"? He doesn't know? Looks like Matt Millanities is spreading.
