Lions' Chris Houston: Randy Moss now more of a possession receiver (1 Viewer)

Here’s two words not usually associated with Randy Moss: Possession receiver.Lions cornerback Chris Houston said he still respects Moss’ big-play ability, but at 35 and after taking a year off of football, Houston said Moss’ job description has changed in his first season with the 49ers.“He’s a smart receiver, possession guy,” Houston said Monday. “He can still take the top off the end, but you know most defenses are going to play him to where don’t let him beat you deep, let him catch the little curl.”One of the NFL’s most dynamic receivers in his prime, Moss caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the 49ers’ 30-22 victory over the Packers at Lambeau Field. At 6-feet-4, Moss is still a major red-zone threat. Niners quarterback Alex Smith threw Moss’ way on each of his first two passes from inside the Green Bay 20, and Moss’ touchdown came out of the slot, when he ran past a pair of underneath defenders for an easy 14-yard score.Despite briefly spending time in the same division, after Moss was traded from New England to Minnesota in 2010, Houston has played just one game against Moss in his career. In 2009, Moss, then with the Patriots, caught 10 passes for 116 yards against Houston’s Falcons.Assuming Houston returns from the high-ankle sprain that kept him out of the Lions’ season-opening win over the Rams — he expects to practice today — the two are likely to see each other plenty Sunday.“He didn’t make his name, Moss, by catching curls,” Houston said. “He made his name by going up and getting the ball. If you don’t let him do that and just keep it conservative that’s how teams are going to play him, and that’s how Green Bay played him a lot, too.”

There is nothing more :moneybag: than a motivated Randy Moss, even at 34. Moss owners should thank the foolishness of Houston.

Yeah, nonstory. If you check out the story in more detail the press just cut and pasted what they wanted to make an intriguing story. Houston has much respect for Moss.
