Lions looking to dump Mike Williams: (1 Viewer)

Man, what a waste of talent. Rogers and Williams had so much talent coming out of college, and they turned into lazy bastages. The Rogers pick I thought was an excellent one, as it gave a then-young up-and-coming QB named Joey Harrington a weapon to throw to. He started off the season well and then got injured. But he showed a lot of promise. Then it went way downhill from there. Williams never even got off of the ground. An absolute huge waste of talent and a high pick. At least we got a LITTLE something out of Rogers... :hot:

Williams was inactive for the first week of the year because he can`t (I don`t know why) play special teams. (It must be beneath him)

That will make 2 out of the last three first rd picks before this season a total waste. Rod Marinara is cleaning house of all the lazy players. Roger and Williams have been at the top of his list.

At this point what kind of value does Mike Williams have?? Next to none.
He does sort of have a saucey attitude. For those owners who are hurting at wr right now and just wasting a space on your roster, how about Scottie Vines? I believe he comes back in four or five more weeks. He has the work ethic, and he's been successful there before. This is an excellent opportunity to get a jump on a guy that will be a waiver wire pickup in another month.

I guess i'm the only one not buying this "story" - "heard on a local radio station?"

doesn't seem to be reported anywhere else....

I am increasingly thankful that the Vikings took Williamson over this clown.
 Been thinking the same thing myself. I remember a lot of people calling into to KFAN ripping the Vikes for not taking Mike Williams.

Kowalski WDFN Notes: Hakim will play outside, not in the slot

In an unusual development on the signing of Az Hakim, he will not play his natural slot position in Mike Martz's offense. According to Tom Kowalski on Sports Radio 1130 Detroit (Click to listen), Hakim will play flanker -- on the outside. "Clearly Martz is happy with what is going on in the slot with Mike Furrey. He doesn't like what is going on with the flaker position. Guys are making too many mistakes."

There are encouraging signs from Lions WR Mike Williams. His weight is down in the 220s, and Martz gave Williams a fresh start last Friday.

"He needed that," Martz said Thursday.

Martz said the coaches were trying to teach Williams what it took to be an NFL player, and Williams was starting to "get a pretty good hold of that."

"He's had a real good week of practice," Martz said. "I'm real pleased with his effort and where he is. He's making progress, and that's a real good thing to see."

This is good news for Roy Williams owners...

I'm going to take a contrarian view on this one (maybe because I own him in a contract league and he's killing me, but I digress), and say that this guy is a prime candidate for a change of scenery.
But it's difficult to take a contrarian view when two separate coaching staffs have basically rejected this guy. Same with Charles Rogers. I hope beyond hope that BMW will turn it around. I did for Rogers as well. But I can't defend these guys anymore. I think they both deserve the 50/50 nickname that was also given to Rod Gardner. Half assed effort.
You should probably add Roy onto the list himself. He's more gifted than any of the others, but he's not any less lazy. Doesn't even try for difficult balls, doesn't run routes when he isn't the primary receiver. The Lions are just a magnet for these types of guys.

I disagree. I think the lions feed into those types of guys and make the situation worse. When it keeps happening, its probably the organization, not just the guys they bring in. Other orgs have dealth with problem players and got them producing. The lions dont.

I'd say it has to do with their ability to evaluate the talent in the first place. Roy wasn't known for his stellar work ethic in college either. If there was a player or two that left Detroit and went on to do anything worthwhile I could maybe buy into the ruining theory, but there really aren't any examples of this. They just bring the wrong guys in...

BMW's best moment as a pro came right after he was drafted...when he elbowed that kid during his live ESPN interview. :lmao:

Reading between the lines a bit..... yep he's still worthless but we gotta talk him up in order to get some suckers to take him off our hands.

Can't read the exact quote within that article, but the most telling part I thought was the part where Mike himself was questioning whether he really wanted to be a player.

That doesn't change in a week's time.

========

Exact portion within the article itself = Mike Williams made a frank admission last Friday after meeting with offensive coordinator Mike Martz: "He said he had questions about if I wanted to be here or be a player or however he put it."

I dropped this guy a month ago in a dynasty league. The more I studied and read up on him the more I could tell he was not fitting into the martz system, and given his previous problems with being late, out of shape, and lack of work ethic I could not see a reason to hold onto him.I wish I never drafted him.Why don't the Lions just fire Millen?
The problem is that Williams is a step slow for a WR and can`t get separation. I would say put him at TE but I read he can`t block his mother. It is not a good situation.
Yeah and Ernest Wilford is a track star. That is not a problem for a big receiver, obviously.
Well Big, slow and Lazy is not a good combination for a NFL WR.
Or for life in general.

Hey speak for yourself. I'm doing OK.
