LIONS Off-Season Thread (1 Viewer)

Anyone besides me want Vince Young? (Since Williams & D'B will be gone)
Nope.Take Justice.
I'd pretty much have to no longer associate with the Lions if they pick VY. :hot:
I don't understand your sentiments... except possibly for having Andre Ware flashbacks. I would compare Vince Young more favorably to Vick, C-Pep, McNair or McNabb rather than Ware.. but to each their own.For the record, I would prefer one of the following should we be so fortunate:

D'Brick (ain't happening), Hawk (very unlikely), Mario Williams (not happening) or should we stand pat... Justice, Young or Vernon Davis would all be excellent additions, though Davis isn't as much of a need.. if he were there, it would just be hard to pass by.

I hope we get help for either DE or offensive line. Short of that, BPA.

The Lions will still be drafting in the top 12 next year, but this has the looks of an actual turnaround in a few seasons, whereas before you could smell the failure.
Maybe this is just homerism, but I think you underestimate how close the Lions are to turning things around.
I think it is your homerism getting in the way. The Lions still have the Ford's in charge and they have kept on the worst GM in sports. FWIW, if I were the Lions I'd draft V. YOung anyway possible, he's the best college football player I've ever seen. I'd take a chance on that alone. It's better than the crap they've taken in the past.

I'm much closer to your camp than the previous one of not wanting VY. I think if he falls to the Lions we'd be insane to draft someone else. Now, if some other team was willing to give up a nice group of picks, allow us to move down a few notches and still get a strong OT, then I'd be amenable to that, but the thought of passing over VY would have me a little bummed to say the least.

The Lions have done absolutely nothing in the off season to improve their team. The O. Line is pathetic and can't keep their QB off the turf let alone give him time for the receivers to make their routes. Also that being said those Routes are pretty pathetic from the games I have seen.

I was stoked 2 years ago when they made some great moves to get Roy and Kevin but they knew they needed O Line help back then and for 2 years still did nothing to help out Harrington.

I dont see Millen or the Ford's trading up, they just arent that type of Front office. They are stingy and wont pull the trigger. The only reason they traded 2 years ago is because Cleveland was desperate for KW Jr.

There are no veterans on that team, no leadership at all. There are even players that thow their teammates under the bus when times are tough.

Under this regime the Lions are sub .500 for a very long time.

I would not be disappointed to see the Lions take Vince Young. VY has received a lot of criticism lately, but the guy is one of the biggest clutch players I have ever seen. He simply does not choke under pressure. Some of his passing skills might be in question, but you know the game management abilities and mobility will translate to the next level. I think he is going to be successful in the NFL and develop into an above average QB. The Lions haven't had a clutch QB in a long long time. A guy that can run the 2-minute drill to win the game. I would be willing to take a chance on VY. I think he would be a good value at #9.The safer pick is probably Winston Justice. And I would be happy with that selection as well.

VY is clutch? Granted he played well in the title game but I seem to remember another Heisman Candidate 4 years ago that was clutch as well in college. Then he came to Detroit and was forced to learn a new offense without an Oline. Hmmmm.

VY is not a Martz type QB. Martz likes to break down his QB's and try and remould them. ala Warner, Bulger. VY is not that type of a player. You basically have to mould your team around his skills and go that route. That isnt Martz.

That being said, Justice is the best hope for the Lions at #9.

If the Lions are smart they will just let Martz work with Kitna and most likely McNown the following year and they will have a QB that fits his system. Then use your draft picks this year to get some O Line and Defense.

If Vernon Davis happens to be there at #9 then the possibility of a KW2 type deal looms up. Davis would be a great fit for several teams sitting below the Lions in the draft and one of them might be willing to offer another first day pick to move up and get him. The depth at OL in this years draft could make it workable.

I'm also loving the fact that Ngata is slipping slightly in recent mocks.

Justice or Ngata would be perfect. I'd settle for Huff.

Any rumors out of Detroit recently?

Wondering the same thing here...any draft news leaking out of the D-town front office? :blackdot:

The latest:They'll draft with an eye on character for a change.

and

They like the cut of Jay Cutler's jib.

The Lions have done absolutely nothing in the off season to improve their team.
:bs: They brought in a new coach and two excellent coordinators.

They've made significant upgrades to the most important position on the field, QB.

You complain about the O-line, but they resigned Backus and added several proven veterans for depth. Tucker and Stokes could compete for starting jobs. OL was not a deep position in free agency this season.

Were you expecting to blitz the FA market and sign every big name or something?

:BUMP:

Since the Kalamazoo fish wrap ignores the Lions, can anyone fill us in on the Training camp dates or nice juicy info?

I am dying here.

Oh yea, the local Pistons Affilite here in town also preempted a Pistons-Cavs playoff game for the White Sox-Cubs. We live in Michigan right?

Odd question for the Lions homers, but who do you think the primary backup to Jones will be and how do you think he'll be used when Jones is healthy?

I ask because I have Bryson on my roster, and because theoretically if Jones goes down his replacement could have decent value.
