As much as I like what the Lions are building, this pretty much sums them up. Talk about stupid.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2011/story/_/id/7438113/saints-coach-sean-payton-goes-broke-again

NEW ORLEANS -- Carl Nicks heard the taunts.

"Run a play, run a play," a couple of Detroit Lions defensive players said. It was fourth-and-1 from the New Orleans 38-yard line. The Saints had just taken a 17-14 lead, their first of the game, early in the third quarter. They had the momentum but not the best field position.

....

After the Saints converted on the third-quarter play, he had a few choice words for the Lions.

"You got what you wanted, in a different kind of way," Nicks told the Detroit defensive linemen. "You have to be careful what you wish for. … You seen what happened."

uh oh, now people are not allowed to talk crap on the football field?

what will it be next, they cant talk at all?

:lmao:

Lions were :own3d: on 4th down (and 1st, 2nd, 3rd downs too)

I bet it was Avril. He's an idiot and can't keep his piehole shut.

Wow, you have trouble understanding things. This isn't about being allowed to talk on the field, it's about talking #### and not being good enough to back it up.

The Lions were owned by the refs. Since it seems like you don't know, players talking smack on the field is a common practice.

:lmao: I remember often feeling the same way when the Saints were floundering in the early 90's. Still, the Lions are way ahead of that team. I have no doubt they will become a force in the NFC, just need to do a little growing up.

'xactlyTypical of detroit d line however - kind of like when a boy named Suh did Rogers Championship Belt move after sacking Flynn. If your going to do "stuff" like that, you better win. Otherwise, you deserve to be mocked.

Lions had a lot of goodwill among other teams' fans since they were so bad for so long.

But they're burning through that goodwill at record speed.

:goodposting: I like the teams that go from 0 (in this case) or just a couple wins to playoffs quickly, but I don't like the Lions at all based on watching them play. I never liked the Steelers or Ravens D's personally, but I always respected how hard they played. Yes, they have had some questionable hits or plays, but it seems like the Lions do that on every play. Even Fairley with the tackle where he has threw down the RB. He was lucky to not get a penalty. It is one thing to get a rep as a strong D, but they are getting a rep as a cheap/no class D that also still lets up 90 points in the last two games that counted for them. Every game I have watched them, they haven't done well and got called for a lot of penalties and had a lot of cheap shots.

Are we going to start a new thread every time a player celebrates a sack, broken up pass, or touchdown if his team happens is down at the time? Players talk EVERY play...both sides regardless of score. Every hard hit, 5 yard catch, stupid first down sign, etc, etc, etc...it's non-stop out there. Taunting is ramped regardless of who is winning or losing. Just watch closely.

I'm not saying I condone talking when you're down or when you clearly haven't been able to stop them. I'm just saying we don't need to start a new thread about something that every team does, on every down, in every game.

This is a mans game, they are emotional and they talk.

Suh was on the radio saying how much he respected the Saints players and team..said the Lions are young and talented but just lost to a better team today.

I don't think this is about them talking trash, whether they're ahead or behind on the scoreboard. It's not even about being able to back up your trash talk. It's about being smart. You've just lost momentum in a road playoff game against the best home team in the NFL and you're goading them into taking shots at you?Look at the league's heavy hitters, the Patriots, Saints, Packers, teams with championship pedigrees. They don't do stupid stuff like this. The margin is too thin.

Honest question- if the refs had made every correct call in Lions games this season, would they have gone 16-0? It really seems that a lot of Lions fans like to blame the zebras. I have a big problem with Schwartz doing it in his post game presser as well (regarding the open hand fumble).

Do you actually think the only reason the Saints went for it on 4th down is because the Lions were goading them into going for it? Do you think Saints would have probably punted had the Lions not dared them to go for it.The play play was already on the way in..teams talk to try and disrupt other teams..part of the game. Ever watch sounds of the game on the NFL Network..there is talk going on after every play. Means nothing in the outcome.

The zebras admitted they blew the call (twice). The inadvertent whistle by rule should have gave NO the ball back, but they blew that part of it too.I don't think Schwartz should have mentioned it in the post game presser. He's the coach and he should be bigger than that. But it played a big part in the game. Instead of going up 21-7 at half, it was 14-10. That's a big swing, and Lions fans definitely have something to be upset about...especially after the officials admit to blowing that call. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/08/league-admits-errors-on-lions-saints-fumble/

This is where I think you're wrong. They all do it. There's not a team in the league that doesn't talk...and talk a lot. But they all don't have the reputation Detroit has got this year (and rightfully so), so you don't have separate threads about it on this forum. They back it up, and DET didn't. Had DET backed it up and won, would you have started this thread about not being smart?

When I played in little league I used to yell at the batters in the box to hit it to me at 3rd base because I wanted the ball to gun him down at 1st. I was 11. I'm shocked that the big boys still do this.

Are we bumping up against the thread cap again?

No, but forum integrity is what makes this site one of the best. Flooding it with, what I find useless threads, challenges that integrity.

Good Grief... Are you surprised that a team talks trash? Cripes, before the game DC Gregg Williams was talking trash about Calvin Johnson. 6-5 receivers aren't that big when we flip em upside down (or something to that affect).

I think EVERY CB in the league trash talks the WR opposite him regardless of whether he got beat about 8x that game - it's the way it's played now

I always find it funny that people on message boards love telling professional athletes to "grow up"

lulz

:goodposting: Calvin Johnson 12/211/2.It only matters because Det lost. Had they given up that first down and won the game this would be a non issue.
