Lions to win 12 games this year (1 Viewer)

Lions fans getting carried away in here. For what it's worth I'm buying the Lions and Stafford. Nothings coming easy for anyone in the NFC North this year.

But if my team was 8-40 over the past 3 seasons, I would just be enjoying the fact that my team can win games again. Why heap on expectations of 12-win seasons and Pro Bowl appearances by your young QB?
I just skimmed the thread, but it seems to me like only 1 fan is getting carried away not hating on the Lions. As a Lions fan I am happy with the win yesterday, but they had a lot of areas that they could have improved. A team ready to win 12 games wins the game yesterday by 14 points or more. It was nice to see them win a game that they made mistakes. In the last few years they always made enough mistakes to lose. The feel around the Lions has changed. How many wins that turns into will be determined in the next 16 or more weeks.
Fixed.Make sure you see the difference.
Yes - we should all make sure you know that unless you think Stafford is a top 3 QB in the NFC, you're a Lion-hater. Come on now, meeka, didn't you know that?

Just a tad bit of overreaction in this thread from Lions fans (diehard one myself) but completely understandable. Think sailor being on a submarine for 57 years...dude's gonna be a little pent-up coming into port.

I'm a die-hard Vikes fan, and the following is completely sincere.

If the Vikings are out of it by mid-season, I will be rooting for the Lions to win the division. I HATE GB. I HATE CHI. I don't like Detroit, but with the years of poor management, wasted 1st round picks, and losing so many seasons, I really want this team to do well. I will root for them in all but the Vikes games, or unless the Vikes are relevant (not holding my breath).

GL DET.

Week 2:

K.C.

DET -9

I honestly cannot remember the last time the Lions were 9-point favorites over anyone.

Maybe in 1995 during the Scott Mitchell era.

Wins over the Bucs and most likely the Chiefs. Lets see when they face a legitimate team but they look really good.

Brees: 32/49 - 419 yards - 3 TD - 0 IntRodgers: 27/35 - 312 yards - 3 TD - 0 IntStafford: 24/33 - 305 yards - 3 TD - 1 Int
Stafford 294 yards, 4 TDsBrees 270 yards, 3 TDsRodgers 308 yards 2 TDsOh and Stafford came out of the game halfway through the 4th quarter.:scoreboard:

I was pissed the Lions didn't pull a Belichick and keep Stafford in, running up the score...he would've thrown another TD easily.

But I can see why you wouldn't want to risk your starters, especially guys like Stafford and Calvin who have been injured before.

Considering Stafford's last couple years, Im fine with it. Although 1 more 7yd pass to Burleson wouldve been a nice 6 point play for me.I think Ive found my 2nd favorite team to root for

Both teams had 10 wins last year. It is not like you can play the packers and the patriots every week.

Lot of stupid going on in Sacramento.
Agreed. The basis for his arguments are pathetic. Maybe he should just keep quiet to avoid further embarrassment.
Yes, I'm completely embarrassed here.
It is premature, but a 40 TD season here could put him in the conversation. He still has a ways to go to prove he is in the Brees or Rogers territory, but still I would put him in the top 5 of NFC QB's right now.

Lost in a lot of the talk with Detroit's resurgence is how great Martin Mayhew has been in replacing Millen. turns out he's got some balls on top of a great eye:

Not only did the Lions send the woeful Kansas City Chiefs packing with a 48-3 boot in the rear, but general manager Martin Mayhew waved away the Chiefs' Scott Pioli's attempt to bury the hatchet just moments after the game.

It was Pioli who accused the Lions of tampering before the 2010 season. As the two general managers approached the same elevator at the end of the game Sunday, Pioli called out to Mayhew and extended his right hand.

Mayhew shook his head and turned his back on Pioli.
Schwartz and Mayhew are instilling a great work ethic in this team, and a little bit of swagger to go with it. Love it.

I forget the opponent but it was 2000.Stafford tied a franchise record today with most TDs in the first two games (7 - Milt Plum and a couple other guys).I would say something to my fellow Lions fans to act like you've been there before...but yeah, we haven't been there before, so ####### whoop it up boys!

Just noticed an interesting stat. After two weeks of play the lions have scored more points than any other team (75) and allowed fewer points than any other team (23).

St. Louis and NYG both gave up more than 23 last week, and will have to score 52 or 51 points, respectively, tomorrow night to equal Detroit's output.

Ummm...Buffalo scored 79 points and houston has only gave up 20...sorry to kill your high, but do your research bro instead of just shooting stats. lolA little too much celebrating of the 2-0 start sir?

Still, the Lions have the largest delta in the NFL between points scored and points allowd. There's no such thing as "too much celebrating" for Lions fans right now.

I love watching these guys play. It's good to see teams move in the right direction. makes things more interesting.I've found myself rooting for them. I'm sure having Stafford and Calvin in FF is part of the reason. :banned:

Wow. I haven't noticed a level of ownership SacBob displayed here since I saw the Mike Tyson vs Michael Spinks fight.

Officially worried about Thanksgiving.
Can't wait.

Detroit >@MIN @DAL CHI SF ATL @DEN bye @CHI CAR GB @NO MIN @OAK SD @GB

Green Bay >@CHI DEN @ATL STL @MIN bye @SD MIN TB @DET @NYG OAK @KC CHI DET

The final game at home should be fun too.

They look good but can they keep Stafford upright and healthy?
They have not given up one sack, and are the only team to do so...so, you tell me.
I'm as big a fan of Stafford around here as anyone but let's see if that holds true vs. teams like GB and Chi. KC pretty much gave up in the 1st quarter when Charles went down. TB was impressive but still nothing compared to what Det will see in the coming weeks, particularly from it's division foes.

I could be wrong, but so far GB's pass D doesn't seem like its going to make anyone forget about the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Both Brees and Newton have thrown all over them.

I was more referring to the fact that GB can at least get after the QB. Sure, they give up yds in bunches but they will create pressure (and hope to force mistakes) while doing it. I think Stafford will post numbers, but he will take hits and the oline will me challenged a great deal more.

It goes all the way down to the Lion's mascot, who on the sideline knocked Charles out of the game.

Yet Stafford was still shaken up twice yesterday.Debate 101 for you.

:goodposting: let us lions fans bask in our glory. I think 11-12 wins is very possible. Stafford, suh, calvin, best and when Fairley comes back, will be an inevitable 11-12 win season.

TB and KC..

and the Mascot took out Jamaal Charles..

but hey.. good start!

:banned:
The Mascot didn't take out charles, rewind that and watch it again. He extends knee out when he is reaching for the first, and kind of was in an awkward position on the first down marker and you can see his knee get pressure on it and give out and as he is falling he doesn't put any weight on it. He hurt it before coming in contact with Mascot

:football: The Lions chewed up KC through the air one week after the Chiefs lost their star safety. With today's news that the Packers have lost safety Nick Collins for the season, these two Lions/Packers games could get ugly unless Green Bay can find a way to adequately replace Collins.

Yes a quarterback can still be hurried in the pocket, are you really fishing that bad to show hate, how sad to have your outlook on life.Nothing to debate here, if your gonna try to throw up something to burn me, at least have some ammo to do so.LOL, a team gives up no sacks, and all you can do is say he was shaken up, lol, sad sad argument.ETA: not to mention your a Packers fan so you are full of bias...so your opinion is not valid what so ever when it comes to the Lions as you show extreme bias.

Lions look excellent so far. Stafford has to keep doing what he has been doing for much longer than 2 games, however, before he would be deserving of being placed above Rodgers and Brees as the "2nd best NFC QB behind Vick [who is banged up]". Lions fans deserve to be loving what they are seeing right now though, for sure.

Don't want to get carried away, but I was at the game yesterday and the Lions will be nearly impossible to beat at home and should split on the road. 12-4, folks. :lionfangs:
