live Grateful Dead (2 Viewers)

Yea, this is going to be a #### show. I'll be happy to sit this out and think back fondly to the shows I saw in early 90's (even though most of those were #### shows as well)

60,000 pieces of mail, consisting of requests for 300,000 tickets. :lmao:

Have to say, I'm okay sitting this one out.
not sure I understand your post.
Not sure I understand what you don't understand. ;)

i guess I am slow here. Unpack this just a touch. Thx
The scene around GD shows towards the end got to be ugly. Loads of people wasted just hanging out around the venue with no tickets wanting to be given a free ticket, or even gate crashing to get in as most of the shows were sold out. They had a pretty powerful psychic pull on people when showtime would arrive and some jackasses would just have to get inside, not letting anything get in their way. Acid/hocus-pocus stuff combined with dirtbags with no regard for the code. There could be a lot of people in Chicago not only without tickets, but without the means to get tickets even if they were available for them to purchase. It's going to be a complete zoo. And I mean zoo.

got thanks, I understand

I have a room, free airline tickets and just working on getting an actual ticket. Was thinking flying up for the day july 4rth to see the scene even if I didnt have a tix, will reconsider now

I wouldn't let it discourage you if you have a will to go and never experienced a dead show. I could be overselling it. We won't know until it happens. Plus it's all about the music and I fully expect them to throw down.

I was thinking if all else fails just offer the gate attendant a crap ticket and $100

Thats worked for me before a some phish shows

Jerry > Trey and not even close. The "technical" angle is a non-starter when talking about expression. And I'm a big Trey fan going on 25 years.

FWIW - I was at a super bowl party with a long time dead head. He is a lawyer and has followed them since the 70's. I told him I had airplane tickets, place to stay etc and wanted to go to the show. He is still connected to the dead scene, fans, etc and he was pretty emphatic about staying the hell away from that #### show. He thinks its going to be 2 worlds colliding and Chicago will not even be remotely prepared. He is not going. This dude has seen 100+ shows and swears this is going to be a catastrophe. Granted I would put his age around 65ish so that may be a factor but he thinks its going to be a nightmare logistically, in the parking lot and at the show. The demand is going to make people do crazy things especially if night 1 is off the hook.

I think he maybe a bit overreacting with the phish scene merging in but thought I would relay the story.

My wife and I are still up in the air about attending. I always thought walking up and handing the attendent a fake ticket and $100 would be fool proof but now I am just not sure

I can see the logistics being a nightmare - going to be a #### load of twisted up people in a relatively small area. And it's not like a game, where there's inflow, people get to their assigned seats, and then leave 3 hours later. People will be moving and dancing and all over the place for hours and hours.

That said, the whole "Phish scene" boogey-man is so lame and tired. Especially from someone who was probably looked down on for being part of the Dead scene back in the day. Reeks of a bitter, old, hypocritical ahole.

Anyone know when mail orders find out if they got tix...I hope before tix on sale late Feb...what's the next step in selling? Is there a pre-sale then ticketmaster?

Any idea how much these may go on stub hub? Have a bad feeling I'll be gettin shut out

Donna behaving  I never minded her in the band. I liked the added female vocals, and some of their best touring years included her. She was a very good singer when she was a session singer at Muscle Shoals. She recorded backup for artists such as Elvis, Neil Diamond, etc. She admits that when she joined the Dead that she was off-key sometimes. She said partly it was due to not being able to hear herself on stage (she was used to wearing headphones in studio sessions), and partly because she was intoxicated a lot. She could wail sometimes live, but it's not like the guys in the Dead had golden pipes.

Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

People are seeing that their money orders have been cashed, so tickets are beginning to be processed. They apparently have decided due to the overwhelming MO tsunami to change the setup in the stadium to in the round to increase capacity and allow more people in the door. What in the round is going to mean from a viewing standpoint, I don't know, but I wouldn't count on Phil running around doing kneeslides all night. Also talk of a simulcast to movie theaters, but no word on webcast. It's looking unlikely, which is asinine.

My buddy just got rejected....word is no news is good news at this point....typed in serial numbers status at USPS and no info so not lookin good for me....anyone get a cashed status yet? Have a feelin will be stub hubbin.

This may have worked 10 years ago, but they scan every ticket now. Not to mention the pat downs, and all of the extra security. They do pay the stadium staff peanuts though, so if they could they probably would.

Sadly I know. If I strike out on Ticketmaster then its a no go for me. That sucks. I sure as hell will not be going if I dont have a ticket. Would be way too much stress.

Status updates for those who mail ordered?

Still alive but no rejection letter yet....but used phone tracking to see if USPS money order cashed and they are still uncashed.....although i dont know if that is actually working or not.

friend of a friend recd an e-mail telling him he got tix but it doesnt reference where or what shows or how many shows.....tix will not be mailed until June so looks like everyone will have to try ticketmaster to know for sure but that is going to be a train wreck if history is any indication....

this was run very poorly IMO

Picked up the Complete Live Rarities Collection on Spotify. Good stuff. Had never heard Standing On The Corner, really enjoying this collection.

Anyone try and get tickets today?

A couple of my friends were successful. I however will not be making the trip. Just too much going on at the time and too expensive.

I'm not going, but most of my friends were successful with MO. I haven't seen anybody was successful with TM. Apparently the site couldn't handle the traffic and people were getting wait prompts that fluctuated and ultimately were left shut out. Had to be scalpers with bots or whatever it is they use. Secondary market prices are going to be comical for awhile. JFC, you'd think Jerry rose from the Ganges or something.

Stub hub currently shows 7/3 - $799 and up, 7/4 - $849 and up, 7/5 - $1000 and up. :lmao:

PT Barnum would have to bow.

that is truly laugh out loud funny. You have to be a moron to pay that price.

Funny none of my friends got lucky with MO but they got tickets this morning.

So I went from 75% chance of going to 50% to absolutely no chance in hades I make it. Too much house stuff going on and I know I would drop $2000-5000. Oh well I am pretty sure they are going to webcast it, too much money at stake not to.

No way those prices hold up. Just will cash in on Marin money people who don't care how much it is, just need to be there. By the time the shows come around, I'm sure there will be plenty of affordable tickets. These guys are 70, haven't played together in years, and as much as I dig Trey, the gravitas of the GD has been dead for 20 years. Jerry ain't walking through that door.

Most of your friends got MO? Lucky friends. My group of 6 all got shut out. Shut out at TM too. I actually had 4-tix in 104 for Friday in my cart and the app crashed. Also pulled 3 sets of 400's only to throw them back trying to chase the 104's I lost. In retrospect I should of grabbed those. Oh well. At peace with it. Not meant to be. I was lucky to see the Dead with Jerry over 80 times in my youth, and every post Jerry Dead related show I've seen has been bittersweet. The Grateful Dead truly died with Jerry. The craziest thing about these shows is that I remember the 2009 "The Dead" shows at Rosemont, and those weren't even close to being sold out. Same "core 4". I guess the nostalgia and marketing of this worked.

Saw "The Dead" in San Diego in mid-2000s and it was 1/2 empty.

Has Bob even played a live show since his issues last fall? I had wanted to fly out to Vegas and see Ratdog and read he was a no show and then cancelled the rest of the year. Never heard what his issue truly was, but I'd imagine there is some pressure on him to come through for these shows.

not going to last - already fluctuating between $450-600 throughout the day....as it gets closer I think tix will go as low as $300 (for nosebleeds anyway)

I have it on good authority that issues are booze and painkiller related, in combination.
