Looking Back What Was Your Biggest Draft Mistake? (1 Viewer)

So far Beanie has been disappointing and it looks like their offense is inept. I took him in the 4th round of a 10 teamer. I think he will still produce, but remains to be seen. In the same league, I have Spiller starting where Beanie should be. I really need a RB off the WW because the rest of my team is stacked.

In my second league I don't see a single mistake. I have both Best and McCoy later than their ADP. All other players I have picked right around their ADP and all have lived up to expectations.

My keeper league draft was held the day before preseason...so there's plenty of hindsight, haha.

On the plus side, I was able to get Best and McFadden at bargain prices.

On the downside, I passed on Foster, picked VJax at what was then a good value, but seems shaky now (although he could still pay off), and picked Cotchery ahead of Malcom Floyd (this one's probably my biggest regret, since it was due to 20 seconds of not paying attention).

edit: Just remembered, my biggest regret would be Kolb over Cutler....but again, the season is very young.

I'm sitting at 2-0, but if I could go back I would have taken

R. White over Calvin Johnson

Cutler over Kolb

Best over S. Smith

McNabb over Favre

Forte over J. Stewart

But, it's early and some of these guys will likely get it going. Plus, hindsight is always 20/20

In 12-team redraft, so far it would be buying into the Spiller hype despite my gut feeling being that he wouldn't be all that great this year. I didn't "reach" for him (got him at 6.11), but I now have no RB depth behind Peterson and Best

I think Romo in the 3rd may have been a mistake. I could have solidified my RB/WR corps instead, and wound up with Eli/Ryan/etc and I think my team would be better. But I don't know.

waiting for the avalanche of S. Greene
I'm probably in the minority but I think there's more than meets the eye to the RB situation for the Jets. I'm not conceding Greene was a mistake yet. Though I don't personally own him in redraft.
Interested in why....most drafted him as a #2 RB and he is on the sidelines way too long for that...thinking LT injury at some point?
A subtle combination of factors. For starters, the Jets ran the ball a league high 611 (?didn't confirm?) times last year and from what I've seen, the passing game doesn't appear to be drastically improved. The Jets are one of the few teams in the league that I feel can sustain two #2 RB's this year. In short, I just don't think LT's 11 att. per game and Greene's 10 att. per game are indicative of what they'll average going forward. Through two weeks, no other RB has touched the ball other than these two. Also, to a lesser extent, I have a hunch that with LT's age & career touches taken into consideration, there's a feeling among the Jets staff that they need to get what they can out of LT as early as possible in an effort to save Greene for the latter half. Now granted, if you drafted Greene as a #2, you'd better have a Jackson/Forsett/Hightower type to keep you afloat. I think he's thrust into a much bigger role going forward.

Beanie Wells.
Really? I drafted him early in the 4th which may be a bit high but I'm not calling him a bust just yet. If he can pick up steam when he comes back and becomes an elite RB during the playoffs, he's well worth the roster spot and draft pick. He may be a mistake but way too early to tell.Plus, I don't feel too bad as I got McFadden in the 10th round. If I can ride McFadden early and Wells late in the season, I'll be very happy.

I was pretty close to taking Roddy White over Randy Moss in my main league, didn't have the guts. Still think Moss is fine and I have White in a bunch of other leagues. But I would do this over for sure.

I got Beanie too. Not ready to give up on this one yet. Hopefully he gets healthy cause he'll definitely have some good matchups.

two player keeper league. grabbed sjax in the second when in my heart i really wanted best. i felt i had to take sjax. that and didnt want to be called a homer.

In my primary league, for the second year in a row overspending on a QB [brady] and missing out on all the great 'sleeper' RB's mentioned here:

Foster

Best

Last year I screwed this up and still got Rice. This year I was not so fortunate.

I drafted Flacco very high since I valued him and worried he'd go quickly as a QB run was happening. I made a panic move I don't usually make and so far he's nearly cost me both weeks. I'm ashamed to even admit which QBs were still on the board when I drafted Flacco.

Jamal Charles 5th

Crabtree 4th and 5th - ooooof

CJ Spiller 5th - Completely wasted pick. After the draft turned down an offer of Spiller and Cutler for Manning and a player to be named later

D Williams 2nd- Will turn it around imvho

If thats true then you should be buying him up as I can tell you his owners are in full panic mode!

I made the mistake of trying to stockpile strength at RB on one team with guys who were each towards the bottom of my ranking tiers (MJD/Benson/Addai/Barber) so now I'm weak everywhere except QB and none of my RBs have good trade value.

My other 4 teams are hot fire though so whatever.

Don't know of any major mistakes yet as I am 2-0. However, taking Ryan Grant at 1.03 (basically 3.03) in my keeper league hurt a little.

PPR ...Reggie Bush over Best....I thought best would make it back to me, It was 4th round.....UGH

drafted spiller and forsett in the midrounds not sure if either is even rosterable anymore but hanging onto spiller cause i think hes the best rb in the league
Same with me, in rounds 4 (Spiller) and 5 (Forsett). And that was after drafting Beanie Wells (3rd). Luckily I got Ahmad Bradshaw (6th). Was deciding between Forsett and Foster. I was more worried about Steve Slaton stealing carries than I was with Leon Washington so I went with Forsett. The draft was a couple of weeks before the start of the season and just a day or two after Tate was injured.

I took a QB in the 5th. Should have gone Bradshaw-Foster-Spiller instead of KOLB-Bradshaw-Spiller (Foster went before my 7th rounder)

I hate that we drafted just after Tate injury. Foster would be the same guy because he had won the job...but he would have slid to me.

I went in wanting to make sure I got Hakeem Nicks in every league. I underestimated my leaguemates' thoughts on him and only got him in 2 of 4, and in the remaining two my WRs are poor because I anticipated getting Nicks in the fifth or later as my WR2 and then had to hit the panic button.

Also regret forcing myself to grab RBs in rounds 1-2 again when I picked mid-late in the draft. Got Deangelo in the second in 3 leagues and that was useless (even moreso when I paired him with JStewart in the 4th in one :X ). Pick would have been much better spent on a WR then taking RB flyers in rounds 4-5 (Best, Ronnie Brown, McFadden, etc.).

Carson Palmer. Was hoping that Ocho, TO and Gresham coupled with a solid running game would justify drafting him slightly higher than I otherwise would have. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be disappointed and would have been better off just going with Eli Manning a couple rounds later and getting a little better depth at RB.

I was thinking there would be a massive amount here .. or maybe people are going to fake like they didn't draft him to not look stoooopid. In my big money league I took greene at 3.02. In hindsight that stinks but what can you do, if you draft well enough you should be able to absorb a miss or two. Also, I have Crabtree in a couple leagues that I felt he would elevate into a WR2 ... jury is out on both players still but so far not so good.

All these picks were draft day mistakes:

9th Rnd - Deji Kareem (released prior to Week 1 for Tony Moeaki)

11th Rnd - Jonathan Dwyer (prior to Week 1 for Peyton Hillis)

13th Rnd - Brandon LaFell (after Week 1 for Louis Murphy)

15th Rnd - Marshawn Lynch (prior to Week 1 for Kareem Huggins)

16th Rnd - Harry Douglas (after Week 1 for Seattle Mike Williams)

17th Rnd - Matt Prater (prior to Week 1 for Nick Folk)

I tend to move rather quickly if I think I made any mistakes. I usually have a few moves to make early in the season, although this year there were more than years past. Only Folk (both weeks) and Murphy (Week 2) have landed on my starting roster. Both have contributed to a 2-0 start.

Michael Bush over Arian Foster (pre preseason draft). Ugh.

What makes me feel much better is I took Best one pick prior. Can you imagine if I'd taken Best and Foster in rds 7 and 8? The league would've revolted.

In my main league (PPR), I made two mistakes

1) Round 7 - Taking Stewart instead of Bradshaw

2) Round 9 - Taking Alex Smith over Orton as my #2QB. (this is a superflex league....I can start 2 QBs....QBs go fast in this league). Thought that Orton would be available in round 10.....he went a couple of picks before I can get him.

Those mistakes are minor, since it seems like I nailed my first 5 picks

1) Rodgers

2) Austin

3) R White

4) Best

5) D Clark

Z. Miller over Cooley.

I fought my gut and told myself that I was just being a homer. Will rely on my gut much more from here on out. My gut also said to go with Farve, but when you listen to your gut and get what you want you tend not to get as upset about a bad move.

Really wanted Best...he went one spot ahead of me so I settled for SpillerReally wanted Bradshaw...he went one spot ahead of me so I settled for Felix
I got lucky with Best in the exact opposite way of you. I wanted to "reach" with my 37th pick in my ppr/keeper league startup draft, so i was going to go Foster/Spiller. Fortunately, someone took Spiller in the 20's and so i had to "settle" for Best, lol. I guess sometimes it is better to be lucky!

Trading down 1 spot in the first rd that enabled me to pick first in the 2nd in a semi dynasty league I've been in since 2004. Figured the drop off between Best and Spiller surely couldn't be that big and I was very high on Roddy White during the offseason and knowing my league I had to trade up to the top of the 2nd to get him.

Which I did and I basically gave up Best in the process and took Spiller in the first instead...

Looking good so far. :bag:

Care to run down the rest of your draft?

Yup, I passed on Best for.....wait for it.....Bradshaw.

I really like Bradshaw but not sure what I was thinking - Best had fallen further than I expected and I think I just had Bradshaw on the brain when I picked and I was determined to get him, even if it was a reach!

i was going planning on taking foster until someone in my league reached for him but id honestly not be surprised if he ended the season as the backup. kubiak has an incredibly short leash for his RBs seemingly regardless of the stats being put up.

Taking Ryan Mathews at 2.08 (#20 overall; 12 team redraft) hurt me in terms of his lack of production, & being in a RBBC situation. It also caused me to miss out on a major WR run, so I had to start grabbing WRs outside the top 15, trying to improve the odds Id grab someone who would emerge. This in turn caused me to miss out on RBs like Best & Foster. Funny thing is, I wasn't even in love w/ Mathews... I'm still racking my brain trying to figure out why I called his name when my pre-draft "plan" was to go for high upside RBs at a much cheaper price in the early middle rounds. So now I'm stuck w/ a non-TD-scoring, part-time RB & a crappy WR corps w/ no true #1.
