The more significant question is why she was allowed to give testimony to the grand jury in the first place. Seems to confirm a lot of the allegations people were throwing at the prosecutor's office- that they were actually defending, not prosecuting.

I gotta think if TSG can pull this data together from clues pulled from redacted Grand Jury testimony, the Prosecutor probably could have determined the story was fabricated with a little investigation.

Not that much, since they let all sorts of people testify who they knew were wrong on key facts and have given contradictory statements. My guess is the DA kind of took an approach to give the GJ all available data. They probably should have eliminated some of the testimony, but that was not the approach they went with.

Then what's the big deal? Given this bit of info from CNN, it seems like they handled it properly.

Witness 40's testimony supported Wilson's version of events. Yet prosecutors questioned whether she was even in Ferguson on the day Brown was killed -- and they asked her about a racist post online that would diminish her credibility as an impartial witness.

Video from that day shows no sign that her car was there, and the way she claims she drove home is physically impossible, authorities told her.

In later testimony, Witness 40 changed her story about some of what she saw and admitted to having gathered some details from news reports. She also gave a different reason for having allegedly been in Ferguson that day, and shared part of a journal that she claimed to have kept.

On the day of the killing, she posted a comment online saying, "They need to kill the f---ing n-----s. It is like an ape fest," the grand jury documents say. (CNN is redacting the "f" and "n" words, but she used them in full.) She also organized a small group helping raise money for officers, including Wilson -- a group she said was created as a result of this incident.

She also said she is bipolar, takes medicine for migraines, and has memory problems.

"Is it possible, do you think, that you dreamed about this after it happened and it feels real to you that you were up there?" a prosecutor asked. The witness insisted she knew it was real.

Sounds like everything the Smoking Gun is saying was brought out in front of the grand jury.

My guess...because they are trying to draw similarities to Michael Brown, especially bc of where this took place. They could have changed out two descriptive words. This is just my opinion...but I do. Had this happened last week, I bet the officer would have hesitated a little more than he did. After the assassinations in NY, of course the officer is going to be more aggressive. Martin didn't take that into account and thought he could intimidate the police since he thought they were on the defensive.

IMO I think there is a culture or personality with young black men that is rebellious in many cases. "I am not going to listen to any white cop tell me what to do!" Or, I need to show my boys that I am tough. The problem with this mentality is this can lead to them getting killed.

I highly doubt most of the hacks in the media will pass up the opportunity to add "black" in there because there is no hotter sell right now. Sickening. And at this time (moreso than usual) any "reporting" of mis-information (either intentionally or via sloppy work) should result in people losing their jobs.

Just this weekend, here in Dayton, a kid got shot and killed by a man(ccwp) he was trying to rob at gunpoint for his new Jordans. The kid was football player in Middletown and everyone from the parents, to the school came out talking about how good this kid was. It wasn't until a few days later they began to acknowledge that he was a 'troubled kid, who was making strides in the right direction.'

now that i read the article here and watch the small clips with it, the report was even worse. Instead of the good kid report right away, it was a tiny clip of her bursting into tears that plays on a constant loop and the first quote of hers right before the crying clip "they started shooting"

I understand she is in tremendous pain but I think the media shouldnt be putting that angle out until more facts are known, but it is the go to report. People already furious about other shootings will see that and immediately be upset with the police.

Credit to the Chief of Police for striking the proper tone after the tragedy- spoke to the press within hours the incident, characterized it as a terrible tragedy for all involved, did not try to demonize the dead kid or take a defensive tone. There are lots of lessons to be learned from Ferguson, that seemed like a good start to me.
