Lowering the Federal Voting Age to 16 (1 Viewer)

Most of us do not live inside your head. Nor do we watch and or read the same things you do. In other words, WTF are you talking about?

If a party wants to legally adjust voter rolls for a political advantage, I guess it's better to do that inclusively compared to exclusively.

At the very least schools would be a great place to get potential (when they reach the minimum age) voters pre-registered. Getting more voters interested in participation is a good use of government energies.

I like this even better. This way we can eliminate old people from the voter rolls
i still can't understand why a 16 year old can't vote and an 80 year old can...what makes their opinions any more valid?  I agree, purge the old people off the rolls

If we let flat earthers, anti-vaxxers, and creationists to vote, then there's no reason 16 year olds can't.

I am 100% in favor of lowering the federal voting age to 16.
and are you 100% in favor of the US Constitution being taught as a core class beginning in the 6th grade and a cumulative exam being required for graduation from high school?

Oh, hell no...we just want the idiots to vote....we don't want them know anything about that useless piece of parchment.  It just gets in the way.

I do think we should have more civics education in school.

Why wouldn't 16 year olds vote Republican?

Also you would think that in this US Constitution class they would learn how amendments work. And they would learn that the voting age used to be 21 until the 26th amendment passed in the early 70's.

Because mommy & daddy are paying for their existence (literally)....and that is the Liberal cornerstone.
This makes no sense. Are you saying republicans don't take handouts, don't have parents?

So again why wouldn't a 16 year old vote Republican?

GTFOH with this. So... what? Republicans now abandon their children at birth? Dont feed their kids? This is trash and you know it. Quit trolling for a bit and post some actual discussion.  I know you're capable of it, I've seen it.

Despite how they may vote I'm not in favor of allowing 16 year olds to vote.  My reasoning is pretty simple - I don't want someone that is technically considered a child voting - too much potential for voter manipulation.  I'm sure that goes on for 18 year olds but they are technically adults.  If you tell me you want to change both then I'm all for it.

Yeah, this one probably won't fly; there are other kinds of election reform I would much rather see the Dems pursue. Still, every year there's four million newly eligible voters who don't vote like their grandparents and there's two point three million fewer of those kinds of voters every year anyway. That's a net change in the nature of the electorate of about 25 million every presidential cycle.

I don't care if a 16yr old voted Republican or not...

When my kids were 16, they didn't even have a vote in their own home....well, they did...but mine and my wife's vote counted 10.

Every once in a while, Opie backs some self into a corner. This is another thread he wishes he never started. Lol

Not at all...but most Republicans I know don't have a 30 yr old kid of theirs living in their basement, going to ANTIFA riots.

Tell me exactly why a 16 yr old should be allowed to vote?

Do you trust their decision making?  Do they understand the US Constitution?  Do they generally act on facts...or emotions?  My neighbor's 16 yr old daughter decided that she'd drop out of high school because she "made plenty of money working at Dippin' Dots".

Not even close.

Saying that you trust the decision making of a 16 yr old says a lot more about you than it does about me.

I know that it works for the Democratic party but it is not want I want.
I would argue that the answer to the bolded is no for the majority of adults.  Not that I think 16 year olds should vote but there are a staggering number of adults who you couldn’t answer yes to ANY of your bolded points.

The Constitution is a modern day "bullet points" to our government. Have you read The Federalist Papers? Might want to look into that piece of literature if you have not.

I never said a word about 16 year olds voting, pro or con. I commented on your ludicrous statement:

Because mommy & daddy are paying for their existence (literally)....and that is the Liberal cornerstone.
You have kids and you supported them financially.  I guess that makes you a liberal. Who'da thunk it?

I absolutely supported my kids...but I made it crystal clear that my job as a father was to make it so they wouldn't need me any more.  They can want me to be around their entire lives but if they need me after their mid-twenties...then I failed in my job.

My dad's philosophy was by eighteen..."it's either a college dorm or a military barracks...but you ain't staying here".

I graduated high school and joined the USMC at 17.

Why did I consider the USMC at 16?  The uniforms looked cool and I'd probably get laid all the time.  That's how a 16 yr old thinks.

Oh. It seemed that you were concerned that this was some sort of scheme.

Sounds good. Seems reasonable.  I'm a pretty liberal guy, my wife makes me look like Mussolini in comparison.  She's basically a socialist.  And we have the exact same feelings about raising kids as you do.

Common ground, Opes. Let's look for more of it, shall we?

BTW, I'd rather see the minimum drinking age drop to 18 than the voting age to 16. I'm not in favor of either. More common ground.

What do 30 year olds living at home have to do with giving 16 year olds the right to vote?

And most Democrats I know don’t have 30 year old “Proud Boys” living in their basements collecting Hitler memorabilia.

I would agree  🙂

Oh...I am sure that Pelosi is thinking only of America....just like when she wants unlimited illegal immigration.
:sigh:

Pelosi wants unlimited illegal immigration exactly as much as Trump wants to execute all muslims.

None of the Republicans I know do either.

So....has Pelosi done as much to stop illegal immigration as President Trump has done to stop executing Muslims?
