Mad Men on AMC (1 Viewer)

Fellas, one of these days...maybe out of boredom, maybe you get a wild hair up your ###, or maybe one of your wise-acre buddies puts you up to it...whatever the reason is you're going to consider challenging Pete Campbell to a Charleston contest.

You might want to strongly reconsider that notion.

Seriously.

I really enjoyed this episode. I think the best parts of Mad Men are when there is nothing really happening, no dialogue and a seemingly ordinary event. I think they capture those moments brilliantly.
There's always a lot of subtext and the things that people aren't saying that add so much to the story

BTW, I am in the market for a Roger Sterling blackface avatar. FYI.
:) I lost it when he popped onto the screen.I don't know if I'd trust Grampa alone with my daughter. Not just because of previous behavior but he also is very angry and I'd be afraid he could get violent at any time.

I did laugh at this line:"I'm Peggy Olson, and I want to smoke marijuana!"
I got a laugh out of that one and the scene in general. Definitely have been there. I really enjoyed this episode. I think the best parts of Mad Men are when there is nothing really happening, no dialogue and a seemingly ordinary event. I think they capture those moments brilliantly. Betty Draper blew me away. I think this was the best I've seen her. I'm normally a Joan guy but Betty was stunning in that white dress.
You like the preggos, eh?
Wasn't really paying attention to the pseudo bump. I liked her hair slicked back...gave her more of an edge and looked great.

Fun Fact of the Day: Jon Hamm plays fantasy football.
Could you imagine being in a FF draft with Don Draper? 2 minutes into he'd have you convinced to take Spurgeon Wynn 1.01 and 17 kickers.
"Rudi, drafting defenses early and often is your best strategy. You get 11 players for the price of one. Great value given their ADP!" -Don Draper
Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound." It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. Draft Dominator isn't a spaceship, it's a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards... it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It let's us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved. That's why you should take Isaac Bruce in the 9th.

Fourth "Mad Men" Season Ordered

Glad to get this wrapped up after the delays leading into season 3

http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/heldenfiles/20...season-ordered/

AMC announced today it has renewed “Mad Men” for a fourth season. The news comes on the heels of the premiere of the series’ third season, which debuted Sunday, August 16 to unprecedented critical acclaim and attention, and garnered a record 4.5 million viewers. The series has also recently received 16 Emmy nominations – the most for any drama series – including Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama (Jon Hamm), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama (John Slattery), and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama (Elisabeth Moss). Creator, writer and executive producer Matthew Weiner has received four out of the five nominations in the Outstanding Writing for a Drama series category. Lionsgate, the leading next generation studio, produces the series in association with AMC.

“We always saw the potential for ‘Mad Men’, and believed in and supported the series because of our strategy of developing cinematic television that complements our library of the most entertaining movies, from every genre, on television. It’s been extremely gratifying to see the show develop in to such a pop-cultural phenomenon with such a passionate fan base,” said Charlie Collier, president and general manager of AMC. “With this early fourth season renewal, we’re excited to let our audience know the captivating world of Sterling Cooper will be back on AMC again next year.”

Was there any doubt there was going to be a 4th season? I guess the announcement is about Mad Men being on AMC for season 4? Matt Weiner got paid about $9 mil for a 2 year contract (seasons 3 and 4).

Really? I felt exactly the opposite at the end of the episode. He was angry about the money but never took it out on her.

Is there any chance he doesn't know she stole the 5 bucks?

I think it was clear from that last scene that he does and she knows he does.

Figured as much. What does $5 in the early 60's equate to today?

So long, Gene. You were annoying me anyhow.
I was actually starting to dig on the guy. :confused:But I'm glad he's gone. That storyline wasn't interesting enough to continue. For the record there was not enough Joan this episode and waaaayyyyyyy to much Peggy.

Jesus. Peggy is just awful.

Still no major plotlines to grasp onto here. I could really use a large story arc.
I actually like Peggy. Interesting character and good acting. Must be tough to play someone so socially awkward. That being said, I'd prefer more Joan time. Actually, I'd love a spin-off just about Joan and her life.

:hophead: I wasn't live in the 60's, but I'd imagine that she's nailing this role. I would assume that as the show keeps going, Peggy will become a lot more comfortable with herself, and you'll start seeing her become a lot more "Joanlike" but in a more professional anner.

Now that I think about it, did they *ever* really do a long arc? Lots of mini arcs, but nothing that lasted a season and dominated. Even the sale of the agency was just a few episodes. And they have a few mini-arcs now: The two heads of accounts / gay Sal / Peggy on the town / Grandpa (done now) / Roger's daughter's big wedding (the day after JFK).... not sure if we're gonna see anything big.

She does awkward better than most I've ever seen. But I can't tell if that's because she's just really unskilled. I can't tell if she is a terrible actress or a great actress. I'd like to see her in a few more rules to judge it.

She's definitely good for this role. I suspect this casting is a lot like some of the roles in The Sopranos. Take an average actor, put them in a fantastic role, and they thrive.

Draper's identity story was fairly large. I just think that a major, season long plot line would make this show better.

Draper is the straw that stirs the drink...more of him is needed. I understand they need to develop more characters but they can do that and still have more Draper. Take the other week where they showed so many scenes where they were smoking pot and just talking. You didn't need to have that many scenes IMO. Still love the show and actually like that I don't know where it's going.

Agreed. He's the Tony Soprano of this show.

Does Betty hate her children? She always has this "I'm going to give you a beating" expression on her face when she's talking to her kids. Heck Don is more maternal than her. :sadbanana:
