Manning: Patriots "stole" Colts RB in the draft (1 Viewer)

Once again, Brady's team gets the better of Manning's.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said he hasn't forgotten about the team's last game of the 2005 season -- a playoff loss in Denver.

"It was tough," he said today in a press conference at Gillette Stadium. "It's funny, I don't watch a lot of TV. But before I went to bed I was actually watching TV and was on the 'On Demand'. Then I went to 'Patriots On Demand' and was like 'Let me flip through some of this stuff.' So I watched the press conference before the Denver game, and the last thing I say, to the last question about Champ Bailey, was 'Yeah, every time I throw over there I'm really going to make sure I'm careful.'

"I'm sitting there, lying in bed, thinking 'Of all the things to have said, sure enough.' Champ took one [interception] 103 yards. That's going to stay with me for a long time. It was a tough way to end the year. We were really playing at a much higher level than we were earlier in the season. We were a very confident team. We laid an egg out there, and I was a huge part of that.

"Hopefully, with the work that we're doing now, trying to improve, when we get in those situations again we won't make those same mistakes."

Brady answered several other questions, touching on subjects that included his trip to Israel with owner Robert Kraft; his thoughts on the free-agent departures of players like kicker Adam Vinatieri, outside linebacker Willie McGinest and receiver David Givens; and his thoughts on backup quarterback Matt Cassel. He also said he spoke with Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who told him the Patriots "stole" the Colts' running back (Laurence Maroney) in the draft.

We'll pass along the entire Q&A a bit later in the day.

:lmao: @ Somebody trying to compare Peyton Manning to Brett Favre. I highly doubt the Colts were picking up the phone in the war room and running everything past Peyton ala Green Bay and Favre.

I'm not really sure I understand your point. Is it really that hard to believe that the Colts might have let Manning know ahead of time who they were targeting in the draft? He is the offensive coordinator, after all.

Manning's opinion on offensive personnel would mean alot more to me than Favre's.

I like Maroney. But how could they get the better of Indy with the pick? Didn't they earn a pick about 8 slots before the Colts? It was a fine pick and it's cool Manning gave them a compliment, but :lmao: at reaching for the "gets the better of them again". That never gets old.J

I wonder how Joseph Addai feels about these comments.

Wondering that too. Could get him real PO'd or be a motivator (or both) - although he should've known that Maroney was generally considered a better pick and the Colts were seriously interested. Really he should be happy that they took him in the late 1st anyway and didn't trade down (which itself was semi-shocking).

Manning jokes around alot. Everytime he is on the local news he says stuff like that. If i were Addai it wouldnt faze me..Addai is a better fit in this offense anyway. And he is faster,a better blocker and better at recieving. Only thing that Addai has as a negative is his injury history. Its not bad but its not as good as the RB's taken ahead of him. IMO he will be a top 10 fantasy RB for years to come.

It was meant as a tongue-in-cheek type of comment. Maybe I should have been a little more clear on that, but I kind of assumed everyone would take it that way.I know you didn't mean any harm by that comment, but sometimes it really seems like people in the Shark Pool just sit on the edge of their seats, just waiting to correct someone.

Borat: Favre once threw an interception... and it was no one else's fault but Favre's! :o

Fla\/\/ed: "But the WR should have been able to jump 20 feet in the air to make that catch!"

You too, my friend. Cheers. :banned:

And on the other hand this could all be total BS. We all saw media articles and rumors that Addai was on the top of the Colts list as well. There's so much smoke around the draft that some questions will go unanswered as to which team was targeting whom.

:lmao: @ Brady in Israel with owner Kraft :lmao:

Golden boy/ owners pet

:X For some reason I have a feeling that when Brady's skills take a turn for the worse he is going to go political on us :yucky:

:excited: Maybe I should draft Brady this year so that he will get hurt and begin to suck :ptts:

Addai to me is not even talented enough to play in the NFL even less to be picked in the first round .

My 2 cents.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I can assure you that if a guy is taken in the first round of the draft, then he's talented enough to play in the league. Whether he works hard/has the right head, etc will be what determines if he makes it.

:lmao: Manning is such a dork.

It doesnt matter if Addai is offended anyway since he is the new kid on the block. What is he going to go up to Manning and tell him he is pissed or start spouting off in the media? I dont think so.

How did he toss Addai under the bus? Everybody had Maroney ahead of the guy on their lists.

You people really look far too much into things.

I'm a Jags fan and an admitted Manning hater. I relish any chance to slam him. But sadly I don't think this qualifies. He made a comment to Brady and Brady for whatever reason thought it was worth sharing with the press. I don't see it as a big deal. Still kinda funny, but I don't see any bus under throwing.

Its not a big deal just another anecdotal story involving Manning that is pretty funny.

Although Brady and Manning appear friendly, I would bet you that Brady is always looking for a psychological advantage over Manning. They are ALWAYS in competition. This appears to be something that Manning has yet to learn and probably never will.

A guy that works for me showed me some pictures in an email he received from his uncle. His uncle was golfing in Florida and got put in a foursome with Peyton Manning. He said Manning was one of the nicest guys he has met but a 1st class dork. The dance that Manning did when the uncle made a 40 foot putt was priceless. :lmao:

Good lord people, what a bunch of hyper-sensative snobs people are acting like.

He jokingly said "you stole our RB", (a RB that was clearly ranked higher and went to the Colts in 80% of mock drafts out there) in a private conversation with Brady and people actually think they can judge character on it?

I'd like to see some of the things you guys say if everything you said went out into the public.

Talk about blowing something out of proportion. This is the NFL people, not freaking General Hospital.

Every time Brady talks to Manning, he should end the conversation by saying "three rings," and then hang up.

:goodposting: As for Addai, if he's really "insulted" by this, dude needs to grow thicker skin.

This is the NFL, not synchronized swimming.

Indy sure didn't act like they had their RB stolen. Their 1st round pick was made within a couple minutes. Obviously, they didn't field offers or anything. That tells me the Colts were pretty darned happy Addai was still on the board.

 While all the mocks had Maroney to Indy, Addai is actually a better fit because of his blocking ability.

Actually they acted like all the RBs were taken, and after Addai there wasn't much left. Seemed like they were in a panic to get a RB. :P

Has anyone considered that Manning may have been just messing with Brady in a half-joking conversation?

Some of you look for any lame reason to hate Manning.

It wasn't Manning that Brady was talking to anyway. He only thought it was. It was really the idiot kicker in a Manning mask.

:goodposting: Addai is a quiet, unassuming, nose-to-the-grindstone personality. He's not going to get PO'd and make a statement to the press ... he's probably not even going to let an off-the-cuff comment faze him. However, he might make a deadpan comment to Manning in the future at some opportune moment for a ribbing.

Addai doesn't run quite as well as the RBs drafted ahead of him ... but he blocks WAY better than all of them, and catches passes as well as any of them (better than most). Not having to face 8-in-the-box with the Colts, Addai should kick ace in '06.
